So pretty much all the players, and probably about half of the owners want a higher cap in year 2, but the hardline/small market owners are making a stance? WTF!

@NYDNRangers: Issue of #NHL seeking $60 million cap in 2013-14 season, while #NHLPA will go no lower than $65 mil, is a HUGE one

Yeah real minor...

So the owners don't want a high cap of 65M because the floor would be higher.

I would think the bottom teams would have no problem making the floor, considering the fact that the cap would be 70.2M this year.

If you didn't know it already, this league is run by morons.

The Big market teams should split off and start a competitor league with no salary cap.

That's right. I went there.

The NHLPA's current main argument is likely centered around how hockey fans are sheep and will be back buying t-shirts and $9 beers. They'll be back, so make it $65M, please.

ok, I know its a huge issue, but it shouldn't be thats the point.

Its a decision thats result could be 9 figures.

...having to be made with virtually no baseline, and no compass regarding just how much damage their idiotic actions (and inactions) have done to the league.

Anyway, forget Fehr filing , I'm filing my DOI towards the NHL. I'll find out when I find out season or no season, until then I'm done worrying about this lockout and letting it take up any more of my time. see ya guys hopefully when the season starts.

Escrow and the revenue split will alleviate any revenue issues with a cap over $60 mill next year, literally all that keeping the cap at $60 mill does is **** things up royally for some big market teams

Why is this attitude necessary? There are options available like keeping a lower floor with a higher ceiling for one season.

Cry baby small markets will take their 8 votes and hold the league hostage unless they get everything. That's the whiny pro player version of your post.

What about the game? Read this ... I just did... ugh

Can't believe the league is digging in on a cap ceiling teams are not required to spend to.

Why?

Good players flooding the market at cheap prices? Seems just like the short-sited "fix" that Bettman is famous for.

"Come on out Columbus, and watch Marian Gaborik lead the Jackets!"

This is what its come down to? Not coming to a compromise for a cap figure +/- 5M, are you ****ing serious?

If the small markets teams are whining so much about lowering the floor and ceiling, maybe they shouldn't be in a major sports league thats in the midst of a 110 day labor strife because of them. (Or should I say, the commissioner allowing them to exist).

If the cap was going up to 70+ and has increased each year with significant growth of the sport recorded, why is 5 M such an issue? And has anyone spoken of the fact that revenue sharing is going to be featured in this new agreement? Does that money in the small market teams' pocket (coming from the outrageous ticket prices in places like Manhattan) account for ANYTHING?

**** them. Make it 63M and be done with it so certain teams who actually have an extended fan base dont have to watch their teams get dismantled to get under the cap.

Henrik Lundqvist are following the negotiations with "great excitement" (probably journalist exaggeration).
from his home in NY and he is convinced that they soon will reach a solution (deal)

Lundqvist says to Swedish tv that he believes and hopes that a deal will be made.

He says that its good that both parts are talking to each other in
a serious way and that it looks "bright" for a deal to be made.

"-If the the whole season would be cancelled, it would be a huge loss however my
"gut" is that there are big possibilities that the matter will be solved."

What is next move by NHL?

"We are taking everything we generously offered the players off the table - again" ~ Bettman

or

"$60 M is the pile of Treasury notes we will die on" ~ Daly

or

"We are going to see you in court. And you will regret it - longhorns" ~ Batterman
