We've heard it both ways from various sources on contract limits and CBA length. Some have it that they've agreed, some have it that they haven't.

"competitive balance" is a ******** excuse, cuz the system will go back to normal in 2014 anyways. Having one artificially low year to force teams to tear down their rosters is disturbing

Well said.

By the way, that HRR penalty thing is exactly why this whole process is taking so long. Why did the league do that in the first place? Both sides have been guilty of that kind of thing. Stop wasting time already.

I think we should have an agreement within the next 8 days. I'd be shocked if we don't.

I would assume if we are going to have a season, the agreement will be finished well before 8 days.

Disclaimer of interest is still an issue.

We may even have a tentative agreement after today.

so from the sounds of things only minor issues like pensions and cap remain, everything else has been settled or is close?

Looks that way. HRR has been agreed upon from both sides and that was the major hurdle.

With that said, I'm not going to make any assumptions anymore from where this is going. I'll believe we will have a season when there is at least a tentative agreement. Not going to get ahead of myself before that.

Damn you Jacobs!

HRR was agreed upon a long time ago (the definition is staying the same as in the last CBA). What they agreed to today was to keep the stiff penalties for hiding revenue, which apparently the NHL had softened the language on.

Larry Brooks ‏@NYP_BrooksieEdm will be charged $2.775M re floor next year on RNH, Yakupov, Schultz instead of $11.325, meaning team has to commit another $8.55M.

Welcome to Edmonton Scott Gomez, Wade Redden & Mike Komisarek!
;););)

In the grand scheme of things, they are small issues, but since they're the last ones, of course they're bigger than they would be otherwise

They've been arguing about pensions for the last couple of days. Cap has been argued for even longer. Obviously neither side consider these issues to be "minor".

the pa and league dont consider anything minor, but when you're talking about saving a season (and maybe the league), its minor.

lol, it also means Khabibulin and Horcoff are not going to be bought out even though those are horrific deals.
They should have bought-out Khabilbulin with the regular-course buy-outs. They would have the full cap hit (35+) but have some dollar savings.

Nick Kypreos ‏@RealKyper
As of last nite #its believed NHLPA moved off stance of 67M to 65M cap for 13-14 season. As reported the #NHL still refuses to move off 60M

Pat Leonard ‏@NYDNRangers
Issue of #NHL seeking $60 million cap in 2013-14 season, while #NHLPA will go no lower than $65 mil, is a HUGE one

COMPROMISE
$63,5 for 2013/2014 - $18M variance this year as transition
Back to $16M variance 2014/2015

Just the fact that there are penalties for inaccurately reporting (lieing) HRR tells you all you need about NHL
Where are all the PRO OWNER guys now when the NHL today in its 286 page document apparently tried to sneak one past the players regarding redefining parts of the penalties for cheating on the HRR? Great way to build trust there, Gary.
Oh, wait. I get it. Some intern at the firm got the spelling & phrasing wrong...
Proskauer Rose = sleazy weasels

I want a high cap as well, but i'd take two seasons, one with Gaborik, over one season.

This is one point where I hope the NHLPA is unflinchingly rigid.

Ditto....the NHLPA is basically fighting for big market owners. There is NO NHL without big market teams, the original 6/canadian teams. Bettman is trying to cover his mistakes with small market teams that should have never been there and failed.

I'd like it, and I'm hoping the difference between a 60 mil and 63 mil cap for one year won't deprive us of a season.

It seems unlikely. But there are some stubborn sobs here
