The game really should have been a blowout. Quick was terrific tonight, Rangers could have had 5 or 6.

Henrik Lundqvist was, again, outplayed. I'm a little worried about him. The Brown post shot in particular made me feel like his focus just isn't where it needs to be.

Dude, I'm a big Hank critic, but the guy allowed 1 goal and he got outplayed because of a goal that didn't go in against a guy that gave up one of the worst goals you'll see?

Sooo do we not do a POTG poll anymore? I'm really confused by the game thread setup and why it was necessary to change what seemed to work fine.

I thought Hank looked great, not worried about him at all. Great team effort, very refreshing to see a full 60 min effort. PP still needs work but I'll be patient.

Nah, Lundqvist was definitely outplayed, but it had more to do with the large imbalance between the chances of the two teams. Without a great performance, the Rangers score 4 or 5, not including the fluke or the 2nd Richards goal. With just a decent performance from Lundqvist, the Kings got 1.

How many times did the team play the whole 60 minutes last season? I can't recall one game. This was refreshing.
I was impressed by Zuke and Dorsett. Zuke is just at another level this season, both sides of the puck.

Hank was only "outplayed" because LA had what 4 quality shots the whole game? Come on. Quick got tons of difficult shots thrown at him, Lundqvist had a pretty easy game today.

Not sure I agree with that. When the other goalie actually scores for your team it's hard to say your goalie was outplayed. Hank gave up 1 on 29 shots, and was saved by a crossbar. We put 2 past Quick on fewer shots...and if some of our guys could hit the net we would have won by 3 or 4.

I thought Hank looked shaky, also. Let's be honest, he didn't have to be Lundqvist very much tonight. He just looked like he was fighting the puck a little, no big deal. Not saying he was bad, he was fine.

However, I am not even 0.1% concerned about Hank, he'll be himself soon enough.

I think that's the first time in forever I saw the Rangers continue to attack despite having a lead..

yep. Rangers kept way more presssure on the Kings....Quick was spectacular.

and not for nothing (just for the toughness apologists) the Rangers played pretty big and mean with (in my opinion) the third most physical/toughest team in the league, and beat them. I'm really glad Asham earned a roster spot, he deserves it.

Yeah..a combination of that, 2 posts/crossbars, and just the way he was handling relatively easy shots. how many easy shots did he rebound right into the slot or have the puck pop up into the air when he could have just gloved it or directed it into the corners. I'm not used to seeing Henrik do things like that...he just doesnt seem....focused like usual.

Loved the hustle shown by the team tonight, they caused a lot of turnovers and I hope they keep up the effort against the Sharks.

Actually, this looks exactly like Lundqvist has looked during the down stretches he's had in every season except for 11-12. It's a familiar routine with him. He'll pull it together.

yeah, our big players really played well...we're not the toughest team in the league, but we do have a lot of bigger players, and when they go toe to toe and dont wilt like pansies, we can be an effective team. case in point was Brian Boyle...he was a frikkin animal on the puck tonight.

Dugay's hair is simply amazing. I wonder what supplements he's taking.

Anyway, there was a hockey game. Can't wait to watch the dvr for in depth analysis.

yeah, he does have off stretches like this...im just not used to seeing it to start off a season, it seems like when he plays a ton of games in a row that he loses his focus...

It looks like Hank is fighting the puck a little bit. He was brutal in the opener. I agree with Inferno and Tawnos in that his focus is not where it usually is. The two shots that hit the post it seemed he had trouble getting a good read on just based on the way his reaction time was, especially the first one. After the puck hit the post, Henrik was still looking out toward where the shot came from rather than quickly repositioning to find the puck off the post...and that's because imo he wasn't picking up/reading the puck well. There were moments as the game went on where he started to settle in but definitely still not the sure thing we are used to in net. I think he just needs a few more games to get zoned in and focused.

I agree with Boyle, he was great tonight. So was........Zuccarello. He hit everyone and hounded every forward for pucks, including ones literally 8-10 inches taller than him. Got me so fired up.

The rangers have an even bigger test tomorrow night.. going to be odd rooting against the sharks, my favorite western team.
