Hank blaming other people is getting tiresome. He’s getting old and cranky but his skills are deteriorating.

DeAngelo was to blame for a goal, of course. But in general, he has no one to blame but himself. With his contract and status, he needs to be better. People complain about Nash and his 7.8m cap hit all the time and how he should score more goals, I feel that way about Lundqvist. He is the highest paid goalie in the world with an 8.5m AAV. He needs to be better

Yes, but we played pond hockey last night for 20 minutes. It`s just not Henrik`s place to comment on defense or offensive structures even though he has some solid points, but he was upset when DeAngelo struggled with turnovers. The Grabner own goal too just looked awkward last night.

AV like small players down the middle like David D, no doubts about that. We will get crushed against LA or Blues, lol.

Oilers 18 games 2 goals and 2 assist for David.

Rangers 2 games 0

Not looking good at the moment - if u look at his career history it`s obvious signs that he declining unfortunately for David D. Hopefully J. Fast will help him to get more offensive zone pressure when he is back.

I don't think Desharnais is going to be counted on for offence. He's played decent thus far. He's fitting his role just fine.

Yep, he always talks about the lack of structure in front of him. Did it all last season...and did it again last night. He does usually say that he needs to be better as well, but I get tired of the not-so-hidden criticisms of the rest of the team. Just stop the f***ing puck!

He has less size than Zucc, but J. Fast will help that line when he is back for sure. I`m not worried - just saying and looking at background stats before we signed him.

Toronto arguably has as good an offense as there is in the league. They have a lot of speed and are a team that's definitely on the uptick--so I don't know if I'd want to read too much into last night's result. Great comeback and then we fizzled. I'd like to know the explanation for the game winning goal being offside or not. Fine if that's the way it's always going to be--something tells me though that there will be different interpretations in similar situations. But that said the Rangers need to get their defense back in order. Right now it looks dysfunctional.

It's time for AV to show he can make the necessary adjustments to keep the team fresh and competitive. I think this will be one of the seasons where he's going to have to prove his worth (and I don't think he has much).
AV made adjustments last night but his original plan took Nash and Zooks out of the game for most of the first period. I think we we were around 10-12 minutes in to the game and Zooks had only played 90 seconds at that point. Later he swapped JT in on that Nash/Zooks line but in the 1st period guys like Carey, Vesey, etc played more.

I’ll say it again: they need to keep it simple in the defensive zone. That zone pressure system Pitt and Toronto play is not complicated and helps ignite a counter attack better than AV’s man-to-man scheme. They already have more structured breakouts than last year with the short touch passes to an outlet, so why not make those easier to pull off with a system that puts players in position to complete those more regularly?

Just go back and watch how Toronto broke our forecheck last night. We overcommitted two guys behind the net, and then all Toronto needed was an outlet to someone around Andersen since we didn’t have a player there.

Lundy is having trouble finding the puck not only on the shot but even when he makes the save. I dont know whats going on with him. Its a vision reaction issue. He looks like a really bad outfielder losing fly balls at times. He has bounced back in the past. We need him to bounce back again.

They need to scale back the aggressiveness. It is as if the quick transition, counterattack philosophy has been ratcheted up to 11 and past it. Their play screams hive mind of always be thinking about going the other way, always be going the other way. They're not focused on defending first and defending well.

I see this as well. He's aging, his side-to-sides aren't as explosive anymore, and the game is faster than ever.

AV need to do something here if he have any plans to get points. this evening. It was great to see so many veterans played well in last game, but we need to turn the chapter here. new game in about 10 hours.
Holden need to start over T. DeAngelo who need coach lessons for some weeks. Chytil don`t look comfortable or ready for NHL in my opinion.

Kreider - Zib - Buch
Nash - Miller - Zucc
Vesey - Hayes - Grabs
waiting for Fast on our 4th line - nothing much is going on our 4th.

Ryan Mc. - Shattenkirk
Skjei - M. Staal
Holden - Smith

Pavelec

Summary. It`s a a back to back game - get some fresh legs in call up Boo Nieves on our 4th - do something and time to use Holden on our 3rd pairing - DeAngelo need to rest after that horrific performance.

Machinehead assures us that DeAngelo had a fine game and he is quite satisfied with that performance.

Half the defense is new and Smith was only here for a short time last year. AV's system has always taken a while for guys to get used to, I'm not worried just yet. This reminds me of AV's first year when it looked like he was gonna get fired quicker than Trottier. Give it some time before the panic sets in.

Imagine showing this to people without context and asking them if this team would make the SCF.

They'd laugh.

80 more games. It's a long season.

It's the forwards. They've been terrible in the man-to-man system, losing their checks on simple switches, flying the zone, and generally chasing the play in their own end.

I thought ADA had a fine game outside of a few hiccups, including the turnover goal.
He can`t do that in NHL - he had some stomach issues too or what AV was talking about earlier in his first game so AV expected lot more from him before the Leaf game.. But DeAngelo should reflect and learn about some of his mistakes from the bench and he shake his head in that game, and don`t grant him ice time and say all is perfectly fine after his two games with our current depth. Besides, it`s a back to back game, we could need some fresh legs this evening with Holden. I know many here don`t like Holden, but points is more important now and AV need to use the best team as possible.

Anyyway we could need a new game thread - where is @Loffen when we need him! :)

ADA's turnover was not directly onto Hyman's stick. Go watch the replay again. He made the pass and it got juggled in the skates of Nylander and Chytil before getting loose and ended up on Hyman's stick.

If he "can't do that in the NHL" then roughly a third of the players in this league don't belong.
