I would keep the pairs as they are and sub DeAngelo for Johnson

ADA is not coming into the lineup for the next game as every D played well last night.

Good lesson to him for the rest of the season as he will not be coming back to be a savior - team can survive and play well without him.

Back to this:

After game one there was a LOT of talk here about how the experienced coach Trotz completely out coached Quinn, had his team prepared, etc etc.

So what happened tonight?

In all seriousness, I don’t remember it being mentioned and I haven’t finished reading the whole thread but kudos to Quinn for taking advantage of the last shift and matching our 4th line against Isles. This was a good matchup and it created better matchups elsewhere too. I see Buch’s advance stats are not as good as other Rangers but it is still better than Isles first line that Zibanejad and Co was matched against.

As long as one of Trouba Fox or Lindgren is on the ice at all times I think we’ll be fine.

Buch was great and so was Kakko.

and as always glad to see the bread man continue where he left of last season.

Key thing to remember is it’s just one game. Let’s try not to get so down on a loss and too high on a win
 Welcome to HF boards... there are plenty here who can offer advise, show you around etc.

Can we all relax a little now?

Smith and Miller were a very good pairing last night. Buchnevich's second goal was just an outstanding shot. The thing with Pavel is he's continued to round out his game from year to year. The question eventually will be 'can we afford him?' but really he's still improving as a player IMO.

On the scratching of Tony D. Tony should be playing a lot this year---there's no question he is a top notch offensive minded D. There are issues sometimes between players and the coaching staff though and getting out ahead of them sometimes is the best way to go. Tony lost his composure the other night and even though at that point the game was pretty much lost already---it wasn't necessary and FWIW it could be another player that does the same and gets scratched for losing it too.

Gorton should’ve tried to extend Buch this offseason when it could’ve been on a cheap.

Also agree on ADA too. Better if he misses a few games early on but then channels his emotions the right way the rest of the season.

DeAngelo or Fox on PP1 isn't the convo we should be having....

Replacing Strome on the top unit is though.

Im not a fan of how many right shots we have on the top unit but it was really effective last year. Personally Lafreniere would swap with Strome as both of them were on the wrong side last night on seperate units.

i see no path forward that allows us to keep buchy. With lafreniere here and the signing of kreider and with kakko and very soon kravtsov needing more mins it just is not possible to sign a winger to big money. Going to be very tough losing him but here’s a situation where we really can’t keep a player we would really like to keep.

I agree but maybe he could be kept for at least a couple of years of his next contract before the money will have to be reallocated elsewhere.

I think some of his struggles on there have to do with inexperience. Someone with his skill level will eventually figure it out.

I still probably prefer ADA but I don’t see him on this team long term even if he stops with the theatrics, so I don’t mind Fox getting some chances. We have too much D depth and he’s probably going to be casualty numero uno

When did Fox struggle on the pp? He was creative and kept the play alive multiple times when it should have been cleared. He was the best part of that pp last night.

Great post!

What I also think is important -- and something that shouldn't be overlooked in terms of something that he must focus on -- is his ability to play with top players and provide in the areas that are necessary to make a "top unit" work.

A good example of a player who never really pinned this down is Rick Nash. He pwned juniors. Came to CBJ and quickly became a guy that everyone else focused on supporting. He had OK linemates in like Vyborny, Prospal and the likes. But they served Nash, there were little focus on Nash putting them in position to score and playing to their strengths. This really hurt Nash later in his career when he couldn't do everything by himself. Had Nash like played with a Joe Thornton during his young years, he definitely would have developed the teamplay aspects more.

Kakko kind of have the same background. Not as extreme as Nash could be at times. But like, I think instantly you can see that Laf is a bit more comfortable and understands what Panarin wants. He is really comfortable there. Kakko has more work to do. Kakko can be a fantastic passer and he can really process the game extremely well at a high pace. He has all the potential to become a very good linemate for top guys. BUT, and all I am saying is, he is a little behind in this area. There is a lot of focus on him creating offense for himself, and less on him getting to really gel with a teammate or two and hence create offense through that.

Good point, Ola! Another example of the point you’re making would be our own Panarin - when he was playing to “serve” Kane in his first couple of years in the league.

Not to bring back a dead conversation, but probably the only announcers that i actively mute my feed for are Butch Goring & the Caps color guy.

"I don't think Wilson elbowed him then kicked him in the throat with his skate, Joe. Clearly you can see in the replay that Tom Wilson, who would never hurt a fly, was the victim of another player magnetically attracting his own face to Wilson's arm. And now look, Wilson's not kicking him. You can see right here that he's lifting the poor gent's neck up, and his skate just barely nicks the side of his neck. Clearly a total accident"

What really impressed me tonight was that Lindgren and Fox don’t even need each other to be amazing. Wow did we luck out with those two. And MILLER looked even better than advertised. I knew he was great but this soon? Love it.
Cant even fathom this defense WITHOUT them! Would we legit even be allowed to call it a "defense"?
Go ahead.....imagine it.

Smith........Trouba
k'Andre.......A.D.A.
Johnson.....??????

Think about how "fortunate" we are, when complaining about our defense and what we DON'T HAVE, how about......................... it is what we DO have.

Jack Edwards, the Bruins play by play guy is the worst. Biggest homer in the league and a despicable human being.

I really wanna take time out this morning to thank the Boston Bruins
Could turn out to be the 2nd coming of the McD thieving from Montreal. (Not to say he likens McD, but you know)
Boston will be taking notice very soon (if they havent already) on what they lost to get Rick for just one PO run. Shame that happened to Nasher, but our gain.
Not to mention their 1st round pick that we used to get k'Andre, and the theft of Strome for Ryan Spooner, (regardless on how some might feel about Strome) Panarin likes him.

Everybody is up in arms, and rightly so, about Kakko's ice time, but few people bring up Chytil's TOI. It's crazy how little he plays and the lack of opportunities he gets (no PP time)!
Like someone mentioned, I guess they've pigeon holed him as a third liner at best and that's it! Sad...

Butch Goring and Jack Edwards are in the league of their own. No one else comes close in terms of homerism and it is saying something as there’re plenty of homers out there.
