If I had ANY say in the matter, I would seriously be "listening" to offers for Trouba. That contract is ridiculous (and knew it at the signing) and would be a burden. He is a decent player and "may be" a helluva lot better with a decent partner BUT is NOT worth that contract. Listen, listen and listen some more.
Obviously they wont do anything for at least 3 years, but whatever. What is done canmot be undone. Not yet anyway.
Doesn't he have a NMC? You can listen all you want

I agree but maybe he could be kept for at least a couple of years of his next contract before the money will have to be reallocated elsewhere.

might be able to keep him two years but then again you’re blocking guys that need the reps with top mins and linemates.

you know one of the reasons you want the worst teams to draft the top players is because they actually need them. They need to play them top mins and they develop. Good orgs will put veterans around them to help them but they’re still the guys. When a team like the Rangers drafts a kakko or a lafreniere they’re lucky they crack the top 6 or power play. That’s a massive adjustment to be a middle 6 guy barely getting mins.

you either commit to those kids or you don’t. Signing buchy when you already have kreider and panarin that’s now 3 signed veteran top 6 wingers. Leaving one spot for a top draft pick to crack.

ideally true rebuild kakko Laf chytil would be playing 20 mins a night right now win or lose

No worse than many other teams with good players in a flat cap world. They have 11 million in dead space coming off the books at end of this year plus Smith's 4 mil. This is why they didn't sign any of their RFA's beyond 2 years.
I think they are managing it well, as good as it could be. Ever since Gorton took over, it literally has been a reversal, then JD comes in and seems they are on the same page.

Thats okay, the diehards take it the worst. I kept it to a minimium, while others did the whining for me. Because indeed......it was only one game, but was nevertheless disappointing. We werent going to be 56-0, right?
True. Hockey is all I have xD

Your gonna have to give someone away for just draft picks or take back another roster player. Im not taking back trash either.

I agree with all you said.
The weird thing for me is that he doesn't look like the player he was before he was drafted.
I watched his Liiga games, WC & WJC and he did things he doesn't do now. I don't know why that is but just have to wonder if a different coach would unleash his old self
This is so true. The difference is night and day. I couldn't agree more. I think we all saw his highlights in Europe and said, this guy is gonna be a star. Who knows, it still might happen. It took Zucc a few years before he was any good as a Ranger. He was a star in his country too.

Have to be patient with Kakko. He has always been a blend of power and skill. Now he is playing in the best league in the world at 19 years old. It is going to take him some time to gain confidence that he can be that same player against the best in the world.
Also, playing more of a power game against grown men takes a bit of maturation time. He isn't the ultra-fast, skilled 19 year old entering the league where he can flash some brilliance.
He's done it at every level. He can do it here. It's up to him to reach his potential.
I don't disagree, but I just thought with the extended break, and being a little older, we would see more of an improvement. He looked so great on the other side of the pond. But your right. Zucc needed time also before he came our leading scorer.

Never too early to be scoreboard watching.

Watching Pitt/Wash and the LAST THING we want as Rangers fans is a 3pt. game.

Getting a high daft choice/lottery, if you dont make PO's is NOT an option in my eyes this year. We have enough here and many coming soon. I want this team to make the PO's, regardless that we may be a one and done......or climbing up the ladder by at least winning one round.

PO experience is PRICELESS.

Its an option until we have another legit long term top 6 center and top paid defender in the system, or proven to be already here.

I suppose what we are looking for is "perfection". Yeah, we need this and we need that. Well, guess what? These other teams arent perfect either. You have what you have, and the rest is up to their will and determination.

i see no path forward that allows us to keep buchy. With lafreniere here and the signing of kreider and with kakko and very soon kravtsov needing more mins it just is not possible to sign a winger to big money. Going to be very tough losing him but here’s a situation where we really can’t keep a player we would really like to keep.
Yep. Seems that way. And I expect this to start happening more regularly as the young guys come off their ELCs.
While the Kreider contract isn’t bad, in and of itself, it may cause some dominoes to fall that we won’t enjoy.

Fox did show a little bit of improvement on the pp last night. He’s not at ADAs level in that specialty, and he may never be, but if he can show he can play well with the big guys on the first unit it could go a long way to lessen the blow when we lose deangelo.

After last nights game, I believe if shesty hadn’t been such a tire fire, we may have had a chance.

dumb early penalties and shestys Swiss cheese impersonation made it a tough start to game 1.

Once we go down 2 it’s game over with the piles trap. They snuffed us out and the frustration got the best of us.

goaltending and not being man down the entire 1st period was the difference last night.

anyone believing it was ADA being sent to his room without dinner that made the difference is out to lunch.

So? I’m trying to make our future as good as possible.

As such I’m not gonna flip out or sell out for the playoffs at all costs. I’ll take another lottery talent and that’s fine.

Everybody is up in arms, and rightly so, about Kakko's ice time, but few people bring up Chytil's TOI. It's crazy how little he plays and the lack of opportunities he gets (no PP time)!
Like someone mentioned, I guess they've pigeon holed him as a third liner at best and that's it! Sad...
There has been a ton of special teams time. I wouldn’t hold it against Quinn were he staying a little conservative with his special teams right at the start of the season.

Which is basically the point of my post. All the TROTZ SCHOOLED Quinn nonsense. So last night it was a complete 180. The Isles did almost everything wrong that the Rangers did the night before.
Game one. Trotz SCHOOLED Quinn. Game two. Bad bounces, bad reffing, Isles PLAY DOWN to their opponent.

Trouba blasting Barzal last night was also beautiful.

Not the Islander I was hoping to see get mollywhopped but it was still great.
Yeah. And it was a clean hit. He pulled up at the last second and, instead of breaking Barzal’s head, he did the right thing, and kind of shoved him down. Perfect. No stoppage. No injury. Play continues with one Islander out of the play.
They should show that hit to every team.

I suppose you are right, even I go on that bandwagon. In general, I think what "we all" might be thinking (if I may) is that we could have plugged in a kid to get some ice time, but we legit couldnt do that as we already have a very young d corps. They must have KNOWN they were planning on slotting k'Andre in and another kid wouldve been too much. JJ is cheap and fits the bill, but NOT over my main man Smith. And THAT is what is pissing me off.
I think Smith vs. JJ becomes a storyline soon, assuming Miller keeps improving. And frankly, based on the appearance that Miller is defaulting to conservative, safe play, I can’t see him coming out of the lineup soon. Aside for a rest, since it’s a tight sked, especially compared to the college sked.

I respect you and your opinions man, but Kravtsov is a given?
If the situation arises where we are "becoming legit contenders" and NEED Buchnevich, then what? Let him go to pave the way for Kravtsov and his elc $$? I dunno, we've invested lots into Buch and how far he has come, (ala Kreids) and even better stuff is coming. Yeah, that will cost but maybe someone else will have to go. Cap goes up? I dunno.
I’m sure @Kovalev27 and all of us can imagine a path to keeping Buch. But it’s really going to be tough. I agree with both of you, I’d love to keep Buch. But realistically he is shaping up to being a great trade chip. Maybe even a team like Columbus is interested in him in a package for DuBois.
