19 years ago today...

Nicole Simpson was murdered on the night of the 13th and the police went public with it on 14 June.

At the time, I didnt care less about OJ. NY didnt care much either. To ESPN's credit, the covered the hell out of that Cup run. The Rangers were easily the biggest sports story in America for two weeks.

To put things in perspective, the Boston Globe, LA Times and Chicago Tribune all had beat writers not only covering the Stanley Cup, but had Page One leads with the game 7 win.

Different times.

Yeah that was brutal.

Funny, the members of the Colombian cartels always seemed so reasonable.

What's even worse is that he was in talks with AC Milan to move there to play after the World Cup, but he returned to Colombia first, to spend some time with his family.

I wrote a book about this whole affair a couple of years ago. This story has had a big influence on my life, due to the fact I was only 9 when it happened. I could not believe a world-class player (which he definitely was at the time) was a victim due to unintentionally sliding the ball in his own net.

I was like 5 when this happened and this is how my journey as a Ranger fan began thanks to my brother who was 5 years older then me (may he RIP) got me into it that year. Then the parade and car chase on the same day was just mind blowing. I could go on and on about this.

Pink Floyd Pulse came out...that's about it..

Recorded in '94. Released in '95?

'94 was the last gasp of Seattle grunge. Live in NY. Superunknown. Vitalogy. Jar of Flies. Probably some others.

Musically things are so different '94 might as well be back in the Baroque era.

Pink Floyd toured the Summer of '94, I was there.

What an amazing time, especially since I was 20 yrs young.

The Bronco chase was June 17. On June 14 the following happened.
Tuesday, June 14
News reports indicate blood stains found in O.J. Simpson's vehicle and in his driveway match the types discovered at the crime scene. The vehicle and a pair of sneakers are confiscated. Rumors that a bloody glove has been discovered prompt the first denials from Simpson's attorney, Howard Weitzman. In an interview, Weitzman said, "I have been told by law enforcement that there was no bloody glove found at Mr. Simpson's residence." Autopsy results indicate the victims died of sharp force injuries.

Anyway, I was 8 years old when the Rangers won and I still remember those times so vividly. I hope that I at some point (hopefully very soon) I can see a Cup victory as an adult.

I saw the Rangers win the Cup, graduated from high school, went to the parade and turned 19 all in the span of a week

I feel lucky, only having to wait 15 years, being that I was a fan at 5 yrs old. My father never saw a Cup until he was 47. Once they won my father pretty much stopped watching hockey, he was fulfilled, probably the best move he ever made ;)

I was 12 and it pretty much cemented my love of hockey and the Rangers. My fandom was growing steadily from the 80s, 91-92 made me a die hard. And 93-94 made my fandom grow to obsession (sadly). Unfortunately with each passing season I believe more and more 94 really will last a lifetime, mine and i'm only 31.

I was 8 when they won the Cup. I remember yelling at the TV when they called icing. Bure slowed down.

I always wanted to punch Kevin Collins in the face for that.

And he was right next to the play where Glen Anderson get a stick across his face from Momesso in game 7 and he didn't make the call, just looked at Kerry Fraser who also didn't make the call.

Let's see, what do I remember from 6/14/94.

Well, for one thing, I turned 11 that day. I had a little league baseball game that night, missed most of the first period. I remember my dad sitting in his Rangers chair in the middle of the living room. I got my first pair of roller blades and I still play inline hockey today. I got a box of hockey cards. I remember LaFayette hitting the post. I remember my mom yelling at me and my brother when we were jumping hard up and down on the couch after they won.

I remember doing a flying, leaping celebration with my friend Chris at school the next morning. I also remember sitting on the floor of the living room sorting the aforementioned box of cards while watching the OJ chase, which I guess was a few days later. My grandfather was there during the chase.

Hard to believe it's been 19 years.

Happy birthday. 30 is a ****** number.

I have no children, but I can imagine that's the only thing greater than the Summer of '94.
Pretty much. I remember buying champagne with a horrendous fake ID that afternoon. Was 18, that liquor store was busted not too long after. Great memories. My stomach was in knots, facing either the best or absolute worst night of my life to that point.

I remember waking up that morning to my alarm clock & the first thing I heard was Charles McCord breaking the story on Imus in the Morning. It actually gave me chills.

The night of the chase was wild for me.

Happy 30th. Had mine last year - wife got me tickets to see Metallica in Atlantic City. Told me I've got 10 years until I get a gift anywhere near that good again.

Thanks guys.

Not a whole lot crazy going on for my 30th. Went away for a couple of days last weekend. Going to a local show later. Hanging with more friends tomorrow night. I've never really cared much about the number.

I actually made my little half-brother, who is 14, download The Wall last weekend.
