We have one top 5 pick in 20 years (Vanek #5 2003). A great pick, but not enough. A team needs to lose , pick high and pick well or happen to have multiple Hall of Famers on the roster. Otherwise, you will not win.

No there weren't. As per usual, people are making up an argument to knock down that never existed. I didn't see a single person (that I don't have on ignore) claim this team was really good and Ruff was holding them back.

There were a set of people that you probably have on a list that made the argument that this was a playoff team without Ruff.

Well, I'd say Nabokov clearly stole that game for the islanders. We hat a lot of chances but we can'ts score at the moment.

Nabby stole the 2nd period esp. the PP and right after. But not the game. The Isles finally pounced on a couple of the Sabres more aggrecious mistakes, made the best of them and outplayed the Sabres the rest of the way.

Sabres are a defeated team. Looks just like last season before they had the closed door meeting. And the same as the previous season before Pegula bought them.

This year it's Ruff's firing.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over while expecting different results. Tired of this cycle.

They are right. Lack of heart and lack of confidence. The latter is an easy fix the former is not. The coach was not the problem.

2008 Detroit: Datsyuk,Zetterberg, Lidstrom. Hasek

None of those guys on Detroit were top draft picks. Hell, none of them were even first-rounders. Detroit seems to disprove your point.
