Something smells fishy in Denmark, uh, Sweden. My gut feeling is they told him he has a spot on the team when he signed last off season and maybe they don't want him pulling a Kravs or Lias. Jones should be on the team and Lundkvist should be playing in the A. Schneider needs more time there as well. Nemeth is a perfectly fine 3rd pair Dman but he's not good enough to cover for somebody.
That’s my guess as well. They don’t want nils getting upset and returning to Sweden. From camp, Jones has been the better player. He also plays LD/RD.
I’m guessing with Lundkvist being the oldest of the 3, there was some sort of promise issued.
But Jones/Schneider both performed better If they were just going on merit.
This is going to be a problem by years end. I don’t think Jones or Schneider are going to do another year in the AHL. And while they won’t go kicking and screaming like Kravtsov, my guess if they don’t have a top 6 spot by next season, they ask for a trade thru back channels.
I have no problem with Schneider or Jones, having a full year in the A this year. Or nils for that matter.

If this team is making promises to curry favor with kids and living in fear of disappointing them, we’re not going anywhere very quickly.

I’m mean it’s really not far fetched. These kids have had success in Europe against men and feel based on their accomplishments they are ready for the nhl. When things go south, they don’t want to play in the AHL riding the bus in a foreign country. You saw that with kravy. He thought the AHL was beneath him from jump street.
It’s a balancing act, because you don’t want the kid to go home in that comfort zone to where he had success.
I wouldn’t be surprised if we started drafting more NA players. Especially in the 1st rd.
Nils going from a stud in the SEL to 2nd pair in Hartford behind Jones-Schneider would be a tremendous blow to him.
I think it’s a big reason why drury won’t send him down.
We’ve still got that bad taste of Lias/Kravy. I get why he’d be cautious with nils

If there ever was a good loss this was it

The Rangers will be a better team because of this game. They showed me a lot in the third period. They showed that they wanted it bad.

I thought Miller took a step in this game. Played with a lot of confidence.

Kakko was disrupting plays all over the ice and another point. He’s humming.

Chytil with the speed, he looks like he’s close to breaking out offensively.

Third line played well again. Gauthier with all the shots and Laf played with more pace.

Call me crazy but I felt Nils was better.

Nice to see Hunt get rewarded for his hard work.

Toronto played a real solid systems game. Campbell didn’t have to do much until the third

Seeing eye shot in the first was the difference. Nobody should have any problem with the way the Rangers played this one.

Physically, he’s not ready for nhl hockey. He doesn’t have the time and space he did over there on nhl ice, which I knew would be a problem. When the hitting begins, his play suffers.
Nemeth is also not that calming presence or ideal partner for him. He has trouble handling his own side, let alone when Lundkvist needs to lean on him for help.
I said Schneider would have been a better option since camp. At least physically, he’s further along then nils.
Lundkvist is still going to be a good D, but if they are leaving him up all season, I wish he had a better partner.

In watching the AHL games, I'm glad Schneider is down there. It's a good place for him. Just because he looked better than Lundkvist in pre-season doesn't mean he should be in the NHL yet. He's got things he's working on down in the A. Its the right spot. Schneider is not the size he needs to be at to play his style in the NHL effectively either. I think there's some filling out to do that will go a long way to him playing that physical brand of hockey he was drafted for.

The only D that look remotely ready down in the A are Jones and maybe Reunanen. I've actually seen Reunanen's defensive zone game grow this year compared to last. It's something that hopefully isn't going unnoticed. He's rarely running around in the A at this point. He seems to know where to be.

I think this was an ideal outcome for this game. Team showed itself it can play with one of the best teams in the league right now and showed progress in so many different facets of the game. The fact that we lost with several chances to tie late in the game will keep them focused on improving with a clear sense of what needs to improve.

I think we were expecting Nils to be a different kind of player than he is. I have been pretty happy with his defense actually. And I think that’s what he’s focusing on. I think he will eventually be more of a weapon in the attacking zone with his nice shot. But I don’t think he’s a puck-mover for example. Anyhow I think this season we see him continue to improve defensively but otherwise mostly quiet. Which is fine. They probably could have developed Schneider the exact same way but there are only so many roster spots.

Agree on every point. Nils included. He’s fine. In fact, everyone looks to be pulling their weight. I think we all agree there’s more ceiling for Mika. But I’m happy with the lineup. I do think they need to acquire some depth. There will be more injuries. And it’s fine to bring up Barron for example, but you want it to be an option. Not a must.

Agree with most of this, but I think it's okay to be really frustrated with how our top six played. Panarin was fighting it all night (by his standards), ditto for Fox. Zib was non existent - he really needs to kick it into gear soon. And I don't know why Goodrow is there, if nothing else Zib and Kreider need someone who is a great puck handler and play maker (e.g., Buch) to let them skate into space and set them up.

The ice seemed dreadful tonight, pucks bouncing all over the place which probably didn't help matters.

I believe you’re on to something. They signed Nemeth to three years to mentor and help him acclimate.
They’ll probably never do it but they should send them both down together for a while and bring up Jones and whichever d prospect (or Hajek) who is ready.
Jones can play either side so it would give them flexibility.

Very positive to see the team attack and know how to attack and put on pressure. That's all you can ask for. Know how to defend, attack in waves, and play with structure in all 3 zones. The consistency will come over time. I worry about the skill level of the team though. Trouba and Strome had a number of chances in back to back games and couldn't get one. It's a work in progress but we need to replace Nemeth with someone with some offense eventually.

Why is it so important for you to be the smartest guy in the room, that seems to be all you are getting at all the time? If you are smart good for you! wohoo

It's not about being smart.

Just don't like idiocy and bad opinions expressed as fact, but it has become an accepted way of life with many, and not just here.

Had to look him up.

No it is every night. Kakko in his rookie season looked better than LaF has right now. Just idiotic decisions and a lack of talent displayed.

Kakko was arguably the worst forward in the NHL in his first season.

Strome with no explanation for the faceoff woes. He says they work extremely hard at them but he couldn’t diagnose why they got dominated so badly.

I suppose it’s good that they know that this is a problem that needs to be fixed. Wish they had some ideas on how to fix it.

Maybe it's as simple as some players are better at it than others.

Lundkvist is nowhere near where they thought he’d be

Nemeth is here to be the number 6 guy. They thought they were getting a Fox lite to put next to him

Lundkvist literally does nothing well. I mean nothing. They don’t even trust him really to be out there for offense because he’s shown little to none.

Lundkvist is already much better than Nemeth.

I thought Laf had a lot of jump tonight and he looks really good on the forecheck lately and he laid some big hits. That line of his was the best line for the Rangers tonight.

If you didn’t see him I’d question how intently you were watching the game.

Yes, that line was the Rangers best last night, but Laf was largely missing.
Nobody wants the kid to be as advertised as much as me, but I'm still trying to find the part of his game that made him a first overall.

Nearing the 20 game mark I am liking what I am seeing. They're coming together. Still things to work on (and obvious need down the middle), but I think this group will get there.

Though for the life of me how can one team be so bad at faceoffs for like, a decade?
