I said LEAD the occasional win not try to win occasionally. Bad times with young talent normally win only occasionally. None of this is about them wanting Hughes. They NEED Hughes or someone of his caliber to win a damn cup though. Messier was an all time great. We don’t win without him. Few teams win a cup without HOF talent.
I get it. But the team also needs to live for today. Plus, from the way you worded this, implying that Hughes will be an all-time great and/or a HOF talent is premature.

Zibanejad is also playing PHYSICAL, engaged hockey, not perimeter hockey. Same with Hayes, not floating and skating forcefully.
Absolutely. I have been so impressed with them. Buchnevich too. I tend to find him lacking. But he has been GREAT lately.
Is this Quinn’s coaching? I have no idea why, but these guys have been dangerous AF.

Back then, did you expect Hank to be a top 20 player in the league?

This is rich.

"FDJSFSDFLJDSFSF HUGHES ONLY 18.5% CHANCE BETTER TO BE 9th DKFJSLFJSDL." (as if Hughes is the elite prospect we could get this year).

"But like- we could get another all-time great out of our current prospects just like Hank."

Please.

The tank side of the fan base has it all wrong I think.
The oilers have McDavid and they are not even close to being a cup competitor.
Getting 1OA is no guarantee.
Heck Toronto wasn't a competitor till tavares came over and he didnt do shit with the isles and was a 1OA.
I'll take the wins and a potential playoff run.

The Rangers coming out the lockout year were expected to be the worst team in the league. We had Jagr and that was Lundqvist's rookie season and Kevin Weekes was expected to be our No. 1 that year. That Rangers team used those low expectations as motivation all year long and made the playoffs. We got walloped by the Devils in the first round but Henrik got hurt towards the tail end of the regular season and he played hurt during the playoffs....and after that year we were a pretty good team. And FWIW what the Rangers had in the bank as far as prospects go was not nearly as much or as good as what they have now. The Rangers have a lot of great pieces coming--but the ones here now like Andersson, Chytil, Howden, DeAngelo, Pionk, Georgiev can be impact players to help transition guys like Hajek, Kravtsov, Shesterkin, Miller and Lundkvist in the next two/three year and when that happens if those guys are transitioning into a winning culture with all the expectations that go with that it will be a very good thing.

Then 12 years later, we were so close to glory.

I like this!

Bingo.

I truly have a disdain for the attempt to devalue these victories (i.e. it's a shootout win, the wrong players are on the ice). You want the franchise to lose in order to receive a moderate % chance for a handful of draft eligible players? Be my guest - there's a laundry list of franchises that never get off the mat from that type of losing.

The "I know better" douchery of fist pumping for the 'tank' is chicken shit.

20-year-old Brett Howden is a future A (maybe C). Zibanejad may have an All-Star gear. Kreider. Chytil. Lias. Skjei. etc etc. Do you think being around a semi-successful culture with a heroic Lundqvist impacts the franchise - and every single of these players? Nah, get your 69 point season so that you can draft a kid 4th overall.

Just win.

Every team lives for today and wants to win. We just don’t need ugly, lucky wins. It hurts us in the long run.

No one knows how any top pick will turn out. Hughes has a shot at being very special. We need a pick like that for ONCE.

When it's up and down the lineup, I will believe it is Quinn's influence but also what develops in the locker room amongst them. Those guys on Torts' and AV's teams always talked about how close the room was and how they played for each other. Spooner was taken out for a couple of games and has played engaged. Names has been playing very differently from the start of the season. Buch looks like he is returning to angry Buch. Staal is giving up his body and doing what he can.

It's not a guarantee, but as often as Edmonton is mentioned, and various other teams who have had high picks and failed, there are just as many who have picked high and won. You usually don't win without elite talent, and getting the best odds possible in the draft lottery is the easiest way to do that.

I know I might be in the minority but I see Namestnicov being around until atleast the following trade deadline. I like his jump and commitment to defense.
Names is a good two-way player who was misused by av and at first by Quinn. Its hard to go from Stamkos and Kucherov to a 4th liner on a rebuilding team and not see a drop in play. But since hes back on a top line he has looked really good

So i get what Quinnie means when he states "where in life".....
But then, WHY in the hell is Spooner playing? What has he done this entire season? He made one nice defensive play tonight that i saw......is he AV's Glass? When Zuccha comes back.....he sits.
Btw, good job sitting Smith.
Yeah, really. Spooner has gotten kind of a pass. I mean, he too has been improved but he really isn’t registering out there. I trust Quinn but I agree, Spooner hasn’t done anything. He should sit when Zucc heals.

Yeah, for sure. It's why WE play Powerball and Mega Millions when the jackpot gets big. Everybody wants a shot. Just that it doesn't work that way for those guys in the locker room who'll say they won this game at the end of day, no matter how ugly it was.
