Overrated Gritsyuk scores in first regular season game. Don’t forget, no elite skills.
He will fit right in on the third line with Hischier.

yap. "overrated on this board". People have the right to make mistakes.Did someone call him overrated?

No but making a good move in the moment and getting off a tricky shot in a tough league to score in is a good sign for a player of his age. I don’t think it’s fair to suggest that anyone has actually said he’s a future superstar. He is what he is and hopefully he’s in NJ next season and the team can properly evaluate him.I dunno, that goal isn’t that impressive. I want the best for Gritsyuk and hope he’s the next coming of Kucherov, but let’s not act like every goal highlight is proof that he’s a future superstar.
I don't think anyone did that, but as you've said, people have the right to make mistakes. I said Okhotiuk is overrated on this board, and he is, but Gritsyuk was deemed to have no elite skills, and time will tell if that's correct.
Pronman certainly doesn't have time or brainspace to watch 1000 prospects a year and legitimately have a takeaway about their game. His writeup on Okhotiuk is exactly right, though, and Gritsyuk is overrated here (though he is a better prospect than Foote).
Gritsyuk has 30+ goal upside at the NHL level. I don't think anyone is confusing him with Kaprizov, but he's a heck of a scorer with a very under appreciated all-around game. If he were a Toronto or Montreal or Rangers prospect, I think we'd be seeing him routinely ranked as a top 25-50 prospect outside the NHL. For reference, as a pretty non-partial prospect/draft analyst I can say with great confidence that Gritsyuk is a superior prospect to Toronto's Nick Robertson, Montreal's Joshua Roy or the Rangers' Brett Berard, all of whom I've seen ranked very highly on prospect boards. No but making a good move in the moment and getting off a tricky shot in a tough league to score in is a good sign for a player of his age. To me it was pretty good. Nothing too crazy but he did beat the goalie from pretty far out with a wrist shot…. Skated into a good scoring position , changed the angle of his shot to get around the stick check , then went against the grain short side instead of what looked like was going to be a shot to the far side for the goalie.I dunno, that goal isn’t that impressive. I want the best for Gritsyuk and hope he’s the next coming of Kucherov, but let’s not act like every goal highlight is proof that he’s a future superstar.
Theres probably a bit of distance between Mercer and SharangovichAnd Yegor\Dawson on the right side, because both are "third liners in good competitive team".
I agree. There's only a little bit left. Find three more wingers who are capable of scoring more than 25, and at the same time keep Bratt.Theres probably a bit of distance between Mercer and Sharangovich
I dont disagree that Sharangovich is probably a third liner on the team in a few years
I cant tell if that was a sarcastic agree lol, but I dont think itd take that many more goals inserted from outside the current lineup.I agree. There's only a little bit left. Find three more wingers who are capable of scoring more than 25, and at the same time keep Bratt.
You named two centers, one winger who is very hard to sign and one winger who didn`t score in nhl and isn`t great 200 foot player. Even if Bratt will stay and Holtz will score(in both cases - I really hope), there are two more vacant wingers job in top-6.I cant tell if that was a sarcastic agree lol, but I dont think itd take that many more goals inserted from outside the current lineup.
If Jack can score 25+ or more regularly, along with Nico and Bratt scoring 20+, and then Holtz becoming a 30+ guy, I think youd see Sharangovich be knocked down a peg.
Currently he and Bratt can both play right wing, right? Well we may not need them to in, say, two years when Holtz and Mercer can anchor the right side while you have Bratt and Palat on the left.
I could agree with moving Palat down in favor of Sharangovich's goal production but Palat has made a career of playing next to young studs. So it makes sense to me that he help do the dirty work on Jack's line (which likely has another kid on it in Mercer or Holtz)
This year though Sharangovich hs fair claim to the top-6. And possibly next year too, I dont know how Holtz will progress. I just know hes a damn good goal scorer and has one hell of a shot, so his desired fit in the near future seems obvious.
But thats a full top-6, no? Wouldnt that come out to be..You named two centers, one winger who is very hard to sign and one winger who didn`t score in nhl and isn`t great 200 foot player. Even if Bratt will stay and Holtz will score(in both cases - I really hope), there are two more vacant wingers job in top-6.
Until it will happened, I can`t bet on players. Yegor is scoring now. If he will continue to score 25 or even more, he will got a new deal easily. And after that - we will see. A lot of things could happened. Yegor could be send down in third line, if Holtz and other players will pan out, Devils could decide to create Palat-Mercer-Holtz line, Bratt could left us, but Gritsyuk could travel to NA and become a good scorer in NHL, or not become. Someone could be traded. But for now Yegor is one of main scorers. And he is top-6 winger if he can score 25 goals, most of which are EV
Mercer and Holtz should be there, if they will score more than Yegor. Holtz should score some at least. And if Bratt will sign with us. For now a lot of "if`s". But this also applies to Yegor. He should cpntinue to score and develop his interior game. But if he will continue to score and develope his interior game, Devils could prefer him over Palat. So. We should wait and see, it`s really to early to make some conclusions. But thats a full top-6, no? Wouldnt that come out to be..
Bratt-Hischier-Mercer
Palat-Hughes-Holtz
I didnt specifically mention Mercer in terms of scoring but he looked really good in the top-6 before he hit the proverbial rookie wall. But Id be fine with him anchoring a third line as well, so in that scenario you're right Id need another winger or Sharangovich is the next up.
It can be fun to do sometimes though, especially when your team is young and becoming increasingly good as the years move onMercer and Holtz should be there, if they will score more than Yegor. Holtz should score some at least. And if Bratt will sign with us. For now a lot of "if`s". But this also applies to Yegor. He should cpntinue to score and develop his interior game. Definitely a stoppable goal on the goalie on a clean shot short side, which seems to be about the case on approximately 28% of the NHL goals for me.I dunno, that goal isn’t that impressive. I want the best for Gritsyuk and hope he’s the next coming of Kucherov, but let’s not act like every goal highlight is proof that he’s a future superstar.
In the last three months of the season Shara scored 16 goals and 30 points in 38 games. If he can play at that level he’s going to be a top six guy. He’s playing for a new contract and he’s got a feel for the NHL after 130 games. I’d give him a pretty good chance of playing well as long as he is healthy.Mercer and Holtz should be there, if they will score more than Yegor. Holtz should score some at least. And if Bratt will sign with us. For now a lot of "if`s". But this also applies to Yegor. He should cpntinue to score and develop his interior game. SKA vs Avangard
All actions of both. Good and Bad
He should play with defensive reliable center and another winger. There are a moment, when he was play on the boards against tall opponent and he was useless. He is good with his stick, but he is not with his body. But I think it`s ok.Gristyuk was a bit snakebitten but you can really see his talent. Bardakov made a nice play at the end for the empty net assist. Hopefully with Sarge on the staff in NJ more Russian players will feel comfortable coming to play there. Thanks as always for sharing this with us. Much appreciated....
