I was gonna say, Grits is the one for Arseny. Easy and memorable!

Hey @Guadana next time you speak with Gritsyuk you still have do discuss his eventual NJ nickname with him. We can’t have the same mess we had with Sharangovich. Explain that the PHI mascot Gritty takes that off the table so we have to come up with something better.
If I have a chance next time. I will wait when his actual deal with avangard will come to an end. Hope he will find a minute.

okay so this thread is about Sharangovich and not Arseny Gritsyuk now?

Good to know.
It's about what Gritsyuk's nickname is going to be when he gets to NJ. Using Shara as a similarly situated east European player needing a nickname is valid analysis and touches on important issues for the future of the Devils. I'd think you would appreciate the gravity of this Gritsyuation.

Gritsyuk will be 22 if he signs in 2023 so he would get a two year ELC.

If he has another good year he might be able to get them to burn the 1st year like Kaprizov did (and a number of way less exciting college players do as well). Sorokin actually burned his one year ELC and played his 1st season on a one year extension.

Shesterkin didn’t, he had a two year ELC with a European Assignment Clause, which he didn’t use when he spent almost half his first season in the AHL.

Shesterkin also had massive potential performance bonuses, up to 2.85m on top of his 925k salary, which was the maximum.

The reason the Rangers blew past the performance bonuses in 2020-21 was because they had a 1OA, a 2OA, and Shesterkin. Everyone else’s bonuses were way less, even Fox’s bonuses only went up to 850k.

So Gritsyuk can take a couple different approaches here.

Very good “problem “ to have but where would Gritsyuk slot into the lineup if he continues to develop and is a top 6 talent ?
Slaf / Shara - Hughes -Mercer
Bratt - Nico - Holtz

Already one of Shara or Slaf won’t have a too 6 spot . Maybe Holtz isn’t even ready yet in two years (which would be a massive disappointment) .

I guess Mercer could be 3C but he is more efficient on wing IMO

Slaf / Shara- Hughes - Holtz
Bratt - Nico - Gritsyuk
Slaf / Shara - Mercer - ??Zetterlund

If we trade or sign a UFA like Fiala ( no thanks ) Nuke (yes please ) or someone like Tkachuk , I guess it depends on what we give up. I don’t want to trade Pick #2 (Slaf) plus Holtz .That would put more pressure or importance on Gritsyuk being a top 6 forward.

Im gettig pretty far ahead of myself assuming Holtz amd Slaf are top 6 players but by the time Gritsyuk is ready to come here , it is more than likely a possibility .

If Fitz will find a goalie, who can do the job, this problem will help to be contender. Sounds crazy, but it’s three years from now. Gritsyuk will play a year in KHL, and let’s hope, he will not burn his first elc year. It’s a three years span. It’s enough for Holtz and Slaf to be NHLers. We are not far from from great fun. Contenders doesn’t mean we will win first round at least.

Look folks, my shrimp and Grits comment was peak Gritsyuk humor. It's all downhill after that. Take it from a long term dad, I know dad jokes when I see them. Maybe if someone could work in a 'tsup 'tsyuk joke it would be clever but I have a witness list to finalize and file before I can devote any real brain power to it.

Given the Fedotov situation I’d watch my back if I were him.

Obviously they can change their minds if they want to but Fedotov playing for CSKA seems like an important factor here. We had Mukhamadullin come over recently to play for Utica in the playoffs

Muk went back to Russia, I believe. I don’t know who owns Salavat, but Avangard is owned either by Gazprom (which owns SKA St Petersburg) or Rosneft (which owns CSKA). On top of that, Gritsyuk plays internationally for Russia, much like Fedotov did.

Muk will probably be fine. Gritsyuk is the one I’m worried about now.

Everything is ok. dont worry be happy. If a man of “army available“ age didn’t solve his army status, he can’t leave the country. This is this situation. Now they find the way to make alternative service and use army club as a way to solve it. It’s a relationships between player and organizatio. Gritsyuk will be fine.

Anyway now I hope this will”help” to Yurov, Perevalov, Miroshnichenko and Trikozov to be available in second round. All of four are nobrainer picks in second round.

Look we haven’t forgotten about the Gritsyuk nickname scanadal. I hope you are prepping him for that.
