The **** may hit the fan with Kessel if or when is more accurate when we are in 23rd or 30th at the deadline, and Nonis may go to Kessel and ask ok, we are in rebuild/retool. You in?

After 5 years of this, will Kessel say yep, sure I'm in for another 3-5 year plan or does he say, no boss, I'm 25, in my prime and I want to win now.

Thus why we don't want to get into a year when he is a UFA of whether he may or may not sign. The deadline is probably the best time to move him, if we want a solid return, any later and it gets iffy with the cap going down and with him being in a UFA year.

It's very clear what is coming down the pipe here.

Definitely don't want to get into a year when he can walk. Must get him re-signed or traded.

Lots of options for a trade, Wisconsin is his home, Minnesota is going for it. Just a thought, how about Dumba, Heatley(cap swap) and a first and second, if Minnesota get to the final 4, a 2nd 1st rd pick added next year, for Phil? If you are Fletcher you bite?

Doesn't have to be these exact players, but this is the type of deal I would demand.

Switch Dumba for Granlund and I might consider it. I'd probably want something else included too.

Two other deals i'd look at are B. Schenn + 1st + or same deal but with Couturier instead of Schenn.

If they could add one more of their top prospects then I'd bite. It's basically just a mid first plus dumba which is not enough to warrant a trade.

If we're dealing Kessel to Minny, Granlund has to be coming back ... Of course that'd leave a hole at centre for Minnesota .. Maybe Kessel + Kadri for Granlund, Dumba, a first, and Setoguchi (or another cap dump)?

Yeah, I would want to protect that first rd pick if it is a mid first rounder, Minne is going for it. Dumba and Rielly on our D and say a Drouin or Nichushkin to this prospect core is intriguing.

Heatley would have to come back to make room for Minnesota's cap. That's ok, he is under contract for only a year more (2013-14).

Buddy just texted me Reimer to Chicago is a rumour, anyone here this?????????

It would make no sense trading Reimer...Who are they gonna give us as a replacement? Crawford?

The point is to keep Reim as a back-up so he can develop a bit more while having a true starter for the next few years. Only situation where trading him would be OK is if a better goalie who is still well in his prime and still has a future as a starter is coming back.

That's not enough for Kessel. Minnesota doesn't make good trade partners, to be honest.

I agree that it's probably best to trade him, though.

what about if STL came knocking? they have the forwards we need, and we have the game breaking offensive talent they need.

What exactly does St. Louis have available that the Leafs would be interested in?

What i said about Kessel in a different thread.

With this up and coming draft i dont know if anyone is willing to hand out draft picks. Kessel is coming up to his 2nd contract extension meaning this is where he wants the big, long contract. Columbus wont want him and i dont think Kessel will want to play there.

Teams i think who will be interested is Vancouver, Phili, Carolina, Washington, and Detroit (that i can think of at the top of my head) except I dont know their cap situations next season. Anyways for most of them getting Kessel wont make or break them and prob will take their chances and hope that Kessel walks (does this sound familiar..ahem Anaheim). And with all the potential free agents next year that may be the right choice.

I think there is a real possibility that Kessel walks.

Side question, can anyone figure out my name?!?

apperently, the leaf claimed MacIntyre off waivers.....no sure if its true

I think St. Louis is gonna stay put with what they have for the next couple of years. Nobody really knows whether or not that group can pull it off or not. Last season was their first playoff trip and they made it to the second round, but it's a young group. I also don't think Kessel fits with their system at all. Not too mention they have Tarasenko playing this season, who could potentially become that gamebreaker that they need.

You laugh, but Crawford has a better track record than Reimer.

Steve MacIntyre claimed by Toronto per @H_P_Hockey

Enforcer Steve MacIntyre is now a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs organization (via @PensNation_Ken).

i guess is that a legit source ?

@TSNBobMcKenzie reports Penguins have put LW Steve MacIntyre + goalies Brad Thiessen and Jeff Zatkoff on waivers, presumably to keep in W-B.

Apparently the Coyotes are in the process of trading for a 2nd line C.

Long shot but hoping its Connolly!

UPDATE:
@cmorgancbsfoxaz: #Coyotes GM Don Maloney said he had hoped to have a trade done for a forward today but the trade partner wasn't ready to say yes.

@cmorgancbsfoxaz: Maloney said top priority is to find a C. No. 2, scoring.

@cmorgancbsfoxaz did he say the deal was nixed? Or is he still waiting on an answer? You think a deal happens today? Thanks!

(cmorgancbsfoxaz) tweeted
@KennyM18 still possible

His source?

Or is he just making up potential trades?

he texted it was a rumour, I wanted to know if this has been discussed, heard, hypothesized??????? I would imagine the Blackhawks are interested in upgrading their goalie position, since a tandem of Crawford/Emery doesn't sound too threatening to NHL snipers.

Crawford and Emery are better than Reimer and Scrivens. I would take either of them right now over our current tandem.
