Lupul bozak kessel
Jvr grabs kulemin
Kadri Connolly macA
Komarov mcclement brown

Ex frattin, lombo, Orr, steckel

If Kadri does make it I hope its in the top 6

Lupul Bozak Kessel
JVR Connolly Kadri
Mac Grabo Kuly

that's a lot of talent on that second line if they can find chemistry
we already know mgk have chemistry and play a nice two way game that keeps opposing lines honest

the one kessel trade thats been discussed which i thought made sense was Kessel to the Isle if they end up with a top 5 pick

they have their centerpiece player and are ready to win now and not have to wait for another top pick

leafs could potentially be adding two top 5 picks to rielly in this draft would be pretty amazing moving forward

Are there any UFA's you would still consider?

Was looking through a few UFA lists quickly not sure how up to date they are, but I did notice a few players that caught my eye. And it will be interesting to see who gets bought out between now and Saturday, There could be some pretty decent players out there come Saturday. I know Redden is a sure buyout from the Rangers, anyone know anyone else that may be on the chopping block? I hear Komisarek may be another, Gomez is gone, but not sure who else may be added to that list.

Does Philly use it on Ilya Bryzgalov, and go after Lou?
Ducks Sheldon Souray? , Boston, Chris Kelly or Rich Peverley? , Minny Dany Heatley? , NJD Anton Volchenkov ? , NYI Rick DiPietro? NYR Wade Redden ?, Pit Paul Martin? , Tor Mike Komisarek ?, Van Keith Ballard?

The only sure ones that I can see are the NYI, DiPietro and the NYR, Redden contracts.
There a few others there that make sense like the Souray, Komi and Martin contracts.

There was a reason Allaire was working with James Reimer and his blocking glove positioning the way he was, and that's because it is seemingly weak.

Now with that said, is it something that can be worked on? Yes, it is.

But he broke down his mechanics for Allaire, and he's going to have another full season of new mechanical tweaks again.

IMO, We will see another season of growing pains with Reimer due to the turbulence he's had to endure. But his character, dedication and overall ability should lead to success in the future.

Why do teams even have goalie coaches? What would Allaire have done with Hasak? Some goalies are instinctive puck stoppers, trying to change them into fundamental goalies seems like a waste of time, it's a simple position, stop the puck.

I dont think any of them make sense, really. All of those other guys could reasonably be expected to play, while Gomez and Redden were not. Because the team is hit with the full cap hit, not many teams will bite on it.

I am thinking of the long term contracts, DiPietro is signed through 2020/2021 not buying him out would be stupid for the Islanders imo, but who knows it is the Islanders we're talking about. The Flyers may be inclined to get rid of Bryzgalov and his contract that sees him signed through to 2019/2020.

It doesnt do Phili any benefit to do it now as opposed to the summer though. They still have to pay him cash and his full cap hit remains.

It has no bearing on whether or not they acquire another goalie.

Well goalie coaches are there as a sounding board, to work on fundamentals, make slight tweaks in guys' games.

When you've got a vet goalie who doesn't need any help then its merely a formality. I doubt Brodeur needs daily instruction, probably just gets input when needed.

However the goalie coach is usually the instructor for the whole organization. Allaire was tasked with instructing a number of young goalies in Reimer, Gustavsson and Scrivens. When he had to work with Toskala, we saw so many problems because Tosakala wouldn't buy into what Allaire was teaching... which was likely right because Toskala wasn't built to be a blocker.

Allaire had alot of pedigree and turned many large framed goalies into successful NHL tenders... but he didn't seem to be able or willing to adapt his style to a goalie who didn't fit that profile.

Kessel for Perry,Perry lures in Getzlaf in the offseason.:naughty:

Corey Perry is the FA I would want more than any other if he makes it to the summer. Think he gets lumped in with Getzlaf too much as the Sedin twins would be less effective each other. He is a great player in his own right.

IMO even if Getz and Perry make it to UFA they wont be signing here with a roster the way it is. it makes almost no sense for them to leave a mess, just to join another. this roster needs some stabilizing before any significant UFAs will want to come here. the only way were going to get some serious talent is by the draft or by trade. thats what handcuffed burke. and will do the same to nonis. I think nonis needs to get the D adn goalies situation sorted and go from there.

I agree.

But Allaire wouldn't.

His style worked for a certain period of time, but the game is forever changing and his views of what would work and what wouldn't eventually didn't gel nearly with the direction hockey has gone in.

His puck blocking style in theory makes sense as it is much less of a fine motor skill, but it causes other issues along the way that requires defensive co-ordination as a whole which the Leafs lacked.

Im interested to see what Reimer does with his fundamentals with Francois not chirping in his ear.

Murray can probably re-sign Getzlaf, he apparently loves it out there, but both, unlikely under the new cap. Perry is more likely to test the market. He's a better player IMO, no doubt he should be the player Leafs target.

Murray will trade Perry if he wont sign... The team trading for him will most likely retain him as most other teams do.

I personally would like to see McClement play a shutdown role along with Komorov and Kulemin on the 3rd line.

But with Kadri impressing, will we see Carlyle focus more of a Top 9, Bottom 3 style?

Kessel, Lupul, JVR, Grabovski and Bozak (for now) are locks for Top 6 spots, which leaves one spot for the likes of;

Macarthur
Kadri
Kulemin
Connolly

To me, that seems likely that McClement is destined for the 4th line by just sheer numbers.

It'll be interesting to see his opening night line combinations but it seems as if he likes this as a Top 6 at the moment;

Lupul - Bozak - Kessel
JVR - Grabovski - Kulemin

You can call it whatver line you want, but Randy Carlyle is going to play Jay McClement a lot.

I thought each team was entitled to one/two amnesty buyouts? And they agreed to move it up to this season because of the situation with Redden and Gomez. Thus the players still get paid but do not count against the cap what so ever. Unless I misunderstood the terms and conditions of the amnesty buyout. Thus teams like Montreal and NYR elected to just cut ties now with those players, allowing more cap space for them to re-sign players or sign free agents.

In Phillys case they would Amnesty Bryzgalov if they were convinced that Lou was the guy they wanted and were ready to pony up to get him. Thus Bryzglov is completely off the cap, they just have to pay him out and he's free to sign elsewhere. Unlike traditional buyouts where a portion of their salary counts against the cap for X amount of years. Or at least that's how I understand the Amnesty buyout clause that they have allowed teams to use this season. I could be wrong tho ???

They get counted on the cap this season, but not after.

How many millions of dollars would it cost Comcasto buy out Bryzgalov, then aquire Lou. I know Lou's due 60 million over 10 years, how much more would it cost to buy out Bryz? That would be an obscene sum of money.

Agreed.

I think he'll be used a lot despite being given a "4th line" status.

He's perfect for a Carlyle system and he along with Komorov should be well liked in Toronto.

This is a special circumstance (this season) and they count against the cap this season for full value

You're misunderstanding the reason for them. Its not for the teams benefit at all. Its because Redden and Gomez would most likely have launched lawsuits vs the Rangers and Canadians for effecting their ability to get employment. Without the change in rules, they would not have been able to work, and thus would have a very difficult time in the summer getting a new contract.

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=413602

Team will take the full cap hit on such players this season, less the $900,000 for not burying the player in the minors, but suffer no cap hit next season or beyond.

Teams would pay out 100 per cent of a player's actual salary this year and two-thirds or one-third (as applicable) over twice the remaining term of the contract and the player is free to sign elsewhere.

However, there's no actual benefit to the teams to take this plan of action other than as a favour to the player to perhaps allow them to sign with another team right away.

In the new collective bargaining agreement, teams were permitted two compliance buyouts after this season or next season.

Its not just the cap either. You don't get rich enough to buy a hockey team by throwing around this kind of money. The real dollars are more important than the cap in all but the most extreme circumstances.

You are wrong. They were not allowed to buy out any player during camp but now they've allowed a one player buy out under the 2 player amnesty but the player they buy out right now his cap hit will still stand until the end of the season wont count the following year etc. This was put in to help both the teams and players who are in the Gomez like situation where they will have to send him home and not allow him to play in the AHL in fear he gets injured, requires off season surgery they can't buy him out during the off season buy out period if he's on the IR. It wasn't put in as a means to give teams an advantage to improve there teams thus why the cap hit will stay on the books for the remainder of the season.
