How can you make such a definitive statement with such a small sample size?

He's had as many good games as bad ones... playing on an AWFUL defensive team.

Goaltending helps defensive numbers, and defensive numbers help goaltending numbers. There's a ton of give and take. Even Carey Price and Ryan Miller couldn't get their teams into the playoffs single handedly. Check out Brian Eliotts rise to the jennings trophy this year... did you think he just magically found his game or that getting off a horrendous Ottawa team may have had something to do with him finding it?

No reason to write Reimer off, or even come close as of now. Give him a full season at the NHL level on a team that has even a clue what defence is before judging him.

Plenty of good NHL goalies have followed a similar career path. Do you have the right to doubt his a ability because of last season? Absolutely, but you can't completely dismiss him yet.

Reimer is not the answer.

Who cares?

Play Reimer. PLay ****ing Elvis if he can still stop a puck.

I only came into this stupid thread to see about a freaking O'Reilly deal.

I think they're both average goalies and dont have huge potential. Neither looks like a star(below average agility, glove hands etc.)

This summer, or even mid-season, there's two goalies we need to go after:

Luongo OR
Bernier

Both only for a cheap cost, if we go for Luongo, I hope it's late in the season so we end up with a good draft pick.

Ha. The Leafsland catch-22.

PLay good enough for playoffs?

PLay bad enough to get a top pick?

I hate it.

Reimer is not that good.

Damn right it's Time to lose the love. He isn't our saviour.

If all we get is average goaltending we aren't anywhere near the playoffs.

Am I the only one having trouble decoding your posts?

a whole lot of absolutes from you, with little to go from. Do you know something that the rest of us don't? I'm just going to end this (without getting into arguments) by just to shut up, let the guy play and make the assessment after this season. Last season is a write off for Reims, training camp isn't as important as the actual play when the season starts.

what team might be worse?
columbus ?
it'll be hard to finish below that sad lot

If Reimer/Scrivens are piss-poor under carlyle, a top 5 pickis very possible.

However we are most likely going to end up in the 5-10 range if they just play average.

If they play really well playoffs is also possible.

It really comes down to our defense and goaltending, they need to step up this year.

Ya let him play.

Or not play.

Let Scrivens play.

Let Justin Beiber play.

if you want a playoff game in this city, find a guy to stop the puck. I don't think it is Reimer, but if he does he does. I don;t care who does it. I'm just going by what I saw.

Either get the pick or make the playoffs. BEyond that....LALALALALALALALA:tmi:

So sick of these dream scenarios. Sign Perry and Getslaf.

Come on. Then you make a cute little tree of your unrealistic starting lineup.

We are going to get crushed. Just look at our 1st 15 games. 5-10 will be our record.

Hopefully we can dump Lombardi, and Mac for anything.

In the off season we will pick-up Derek Roy and offer him 5 million. That is the best
we are going to get. Perry and Gets, come on.

These guys have homes and families. The only reason Parise went to Minn was because his fiancée told him that is where she wants to go. His buddy followed.

Any solid NHLer in his late 20's goes where the wife wants to be.

Hate on me all you want but I am friends with a lot of NHL players and the chances of a top tier player coming to Toronto without the chance of winning something any time soon is nil.

I think its realistic except for the big UFAs. Also Connolly is a pending UfA, no need to buy him out. I would also add selling Connolly/Steckel at the deadline. McClement makes Steckel expendable. Connolly just isnt a guy we want here longterm, may as well try to squeek out a mid to late round pick.

I think theres good opportunity to retool here, shed the parts we dont want, test out some of our young guys with the remainder of the season, draft a top C (Mackinnon, Barkov, Lindholm, Monahan, etc), and then start building from there.

Backstrom I think could be an ideal short term goalie candidate. Rielly + drafted top C could both potentially be ready as early as next season, the C may need an extra year depending on who it is. But if we do get a high draft pick, we'll actually have a reasonable core going forward (finally).

I was wondering about something - can you buyout a player now without it counting towards your amnesity buyouts?

Can't you chose which one of your buyouts becomes the amnesity one, even if you are within the buyout window?

You can still buyout a player the "regular" way, like it was in the last CBA. Where its 1/3 cap hit over 3x the length (or whatever it was).

I guess theoretically that is what you would do after you've used up your two amnesty buyouts. I mean you could "regular" buyout a player and save the amnesty.. but it has an expiry date on it. Also I doubt there are that many teams with bad contracts that they'd need to buyout more than 2 players.

Dallas would want way more.

I would give up Phaneuf + Kadri for Benn.

Dallas wouldnt want that.

Not to mention they are having trouble signing Benn. They aren't going to trade him for a $6.5 million dollar, slightly overpaid player (otherwise they would just give Benn the $6M or whatever he wants).
