i can see what they need
and theyre top 3 ds are all under 6'

You're forgetting Ray Whitney and Derek Roy (not Ribeiro).

They will get Benn signed.

Eriksson-Benn-Jagr
Whitney-Roy-Ryder

They will get Benn signed and be fine on their top 2 lines (especially in a shortened season).

If I were Dave Nonis right now, this is what I would be trying to accomplish by next year.

During the Season

To LA Kings- Clarke Macarther W and Ben Scrivens G

To Toronto- Jonathan Bernier G

The Off Season

Amnesty Mike Komisarek

Re-Sign Joffery Lupul

Re-Sign Tyler Bozak

Draft Seth Jones with 1st round pick. If that is not possible, package our 1st round pick with Chicago's 1st round pick to make sure we get him.

Sign Corey Perry to whatever contract he wants. The cap space will be there for him.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Line-Up for 2013-2014

Forwards

James Van Reimsdyk-Matt Duchene-Corey Perry
Dany Heatley-Mikael Granlund-Joffery Lupul
Matt Frattin-Tyler Bozak-Nikolai Kulemin
Mike Brown-Jay McClement-Leo Komarov

Extras- Nazem Kadri, Brad Ross, Tyler Biggs, Carter Ashton

- Great balance throughout the forwards
- Good snipers and size on the wings
- Pretty good shutdown line
- Lots of speed and playmaking down the middle
- Pretty good toughness

Defenceman

Seth Jones-Morgan Rielly
Jake Gardiner-Matt Dumba
Cody Franson-Carl Gunnarsson

Extras- Korbinain Holzer, Jesse Blacker, Stuart Percy and Petter Granberg

- Could have one of the best Top 4's in the league in a couple of years.
- Good PMD on each pair with a good defensive minded partner
- All very young with a lot of potential
- Great powerplay players

Goalies

Johnathan Bernier-James Reimer

- Good potential and both still young
- The only part of the team that has serious risk
- If one of them does not run with the job during the shortened season, look to sign Niklas Backstrom or make a trade involving a couple of the extras that hold trade value.

This is the young team that will make mistakes, but will grow together and become a real threat at the CUP for years. Sustainable success. ;)

That second pairing is going to be a disaster. We also might be weak on lw since jvr hasn't shown anything yet and heatley is not what he used to be. I like the kessel trade but rather have someone else in place of dumba. With that first round pick we should loom to grab mackinnon instead oj jones, then we don't need to trade kessel.

i like ur enthusiasm BUT none of those trades will happen... Nonis wont blow it up IMO

I can see him trading players for picks that are on expiring contracts IF we are out of it... MacA/Lupul/Connolly/Lambo etc etc

As for Kessel he is a wild card no doubt, if Nonis feels he wont re sign he has to move him before the TD. If that does happen a team will overpay ala Pitt getting Hossa (expiring contract). Kessel has another year so his value is HUGE. A team wont give up their players if they are making a cup run so expect 1st rounders and top prospects for Kessel. For arguments sake IF it was Minnie expect a deal like:

Brodin + 1st + 1st + 2nd For Kessel

We would maybe retain 1-1.5 M of his salary in that trade.

I won't argue you there. I don't think he will blow it up either, even though I think he should. These are just trades I think he should look into before the offseason

After Redden gets bought out today, I wonder who will take a shot at him.

I bet the Dallas Stars will take a healthy run at him. Likely to a 1 year 1.75 million dollar contract because that's just how they role.

I also wonder who might take a risk of signing Scott Gomez. Once they get bought out a team like Nashville or Phoenix might go after him.

what to do with connolly mccarthur and lombardi ?

lupul bozak kessel
jvr grabo kulemin
komarov mcclement frattin
orr steckel brown

i suppose you could 'squeeze' them into the bottom 6.....
but why bother

Lupul - Bozak - Kessel
Riemsdyk - Grabovski - Kulemin
MacArthur - Kadri - Frattin
Komarov - Mcclement - Brown

Gunnarson - Phaneuf
Gardiner - Franson
Liles - Komisarek

Scrivens
Reimer

Extras;Steckel, Conolly, Holzer

Lombardi gets traded to phx

Lines in no particular order as Caryle likes to run 4 lines so a good balance between them all with some speed, scoring and size. Well except for the last line which will be the grinder line.

Lupul Bozak Kessel
Komorov Grabo Kulemin
JVR Kadri Frattin
Brown McClement McArthur/Connolly/Lombardi (one of the 3 gets dealt and the other is in the press box)

Phaneuf Gunnar
Liles Franson
Gardiner Komi

Reimer
Scrivens

I like the idea of Komarov with Kule and Grabo. They can talk on the ice together, and it'd really help Komarov with his transition to the NHL. Plus he'd cause a lot of havoc on the forecheck.

that would be a great shutdown line, which can also score

jvr kadri frattin makes a nice #3 energy line

Carlyle in Anaheim used his third line as a sheltered scoring line allot, so I could see that for sure. The issue being where does McArthur play? Does McClement move to the fourth line? Where does Stekle go?
This team need to make some trade ASAP

My dream lines:

Scoring: Lupul-Bozak-Kessel
Scoring/Defensive: Komarov-Grabovski-Kulemin
Sheltered Scoring: Van-Riemsdyk-Kadri-Frattin
Energy: Brown-McClement-Orr

Some might question Komarov being on such a key line, but note that some Caps fans want to trade for Komarov and have him play on the first line with Ovi and Backstrom like in the KHL :naughty:

EDIT: Lol, just realized those are almost the same lines as ryno23 posted

Lupul - Bozak - Kessel
JVR - Grabovski - Frattin
Kulemin - Kadri - McCarther
Brown - McClement - Komarov

Reasoning

1. Top line is exactly that. None better at this point.
2. Grabovski gets his size and speed on the wings
3. Kulemin and McCarther give Kadri shelter in defensive battling. Both proven and allow him to flourish offensively.
4. 4th line is total hustle and bang line.

Connolly and Lombardi get traded. Steckl on bench along with Orr.

You give the kids a shot. Kadri, Komarov, and Frattin need to be in our lineup everyday. Speed and youth with make or break us this year.

Kadri has shown time and time again that in the NHL how he plays as a center and how he plays as a winger - I mean - it's like you see two different players. He's shown he's much more comfortable on the wing in the NHL and has been way more impressive in that regard.

Also, MacArthur is not defensively reliable. In-fact, he's probably one of the more frustrating players to watch because he tries to use his skill offensively, but as a matter of fact he doesn't have enough of it and screws up opportunities, leading to turnovers.

I don't think Frattin is ready for a top six role. He's fast but he needs to sorta fine tune his offensive skills.

Because there's going to be an odd man out no matter how you cut it, I think - realistically - Carlyle will keep Kadri out for opening night.

Here's what I'd want that's realistic IMO.

Lupul - Bozak - Kessel
Van Riemsdyk - Grabovski - MacArthur
Kulemin - Connolly - Frattin
Komarov - McClement - Brown
Ex: Steckel, Kadri, Lombardi

Although, the ideal situation would have Kadri replacing MacArthur. At this point he should be able to beat out a guy like MacArthur for a top six role. If he can't do that, then I'd strongly consider trading him.

McClement is going to play a lot, so may as well put him with good wingers

I personally would like to see McClement play a shutdown role along with Komorov and Kulemin on the 3rd line.

But with Kadri impressing, will we see Carlyle focus more of a Top 9, Bottom 3 style?

Kessel, Lupul, JVR, Grabovski and Bozak (for now) are locks for Top 6 spots, which leaves one spot for the likes of;

Macarthur
Kadri
Kulemin
Connolly

To me, that seems likely that McClement is destined for the 4th line by just sheer numbers.

It'll be interesting to see his opening night line combinations but it seems as if he likes this as a Top 6 at the moment;

Lupul - Bozak - Kessel
JVR - Grabovski - Kulemin
