I don't think that there is a trade to be made with Minny purely for cap reasons. I think Kessel would be a good fit on a team like Phoenix. They Would love a player to bring their fans to there feet, and they seriously lack the offence that he would bring there.

Phx: Kessel
Tor: Yandle, Boedker

Just spit balling really, I don't watch Phx often.

No way.

Switch Yandle to OEL

add a 1st and it might get the phone conversation to last more than 10 sec... but still wouldn't be enough.... add a 2nd and that might get it done.

ANY team would have to overpay for Kessel.

I'd rather not trade him, but if it meant he was going in a deal that gets us an elite centre prospect and a very high level centre prospect, plus more, I would do it.

If we get Coyle and Granlund, what happens with Kadri? ... :sarcasm:

This sort of value is extremely unrealistic. Kessel's value is similar to Mike Richard's when he was traded. What Mike lacks in offensive power, he makes up for in ability to win games.

There could be if we take back heatley or backstrom (but I doubt backstrom happens)

Just because Burke is gone doesn't mean we need to get rid of Kessel!
Nonis however does need to either resign him by the TD or trade if to a contender on a massive overpayment.

To get someone of Granlund's caliber you will likely have to get give up Gardiner.

Looking at Minnesota's roster, they need a PMD and another top 6 fwd.

Heatley would have to come back to us in a cap move.

The thing here is Gardiner is a natural fit to play in his home State, Kessel would love to play near his home also. When you add them to Parise an Suter, I would be tempted to move to Minnesota to buy season's tickets.

Leafs could realistically add The Wild's top 3 prospects and a pick to ours. And we still have a high pick this year.

Losing Gardiner is not a killer, if you add Dumba back, plus what we have already in Rielly, Percy, Nilsson and Finn.

Lots of angles here, Cliff Fletcher and his son making a deal, I am just glad I am the first one to make the Wild/Leafs correlation here.

If not the Wild than perhaps another trade partner. The main thing here is if you are Fletcher and the Wild and you have Parise and Suter as core players already, you are committed to win now, adding Kessel and Gardiner to the mix may be too attractive to not overpay.

I could live with Granlund and Brodin but can't imagine Minnesota pulling the trigger on that one. Hopefully he re-signs. We need him badly.

Agree 100%. I'd move Kessel and Gardiner easily if we were getting Granlund, Coyle, Dumba/Brodin, and a 1st back. MIN would be stacked, and we'd be building for the long term.

Yandle and Boedker for Kessel is an overpayment. Boedker is going to break out this season. Regardless, Yandle is a good start on his own.

That's not for certain. I've kept an eye on him for a while and think he will be a good player. But he has put up poor offensive numbers so far in his career. He doesn't have the sort of value that makes him + Yandle and overpayment imo.

The thing I like about this trade, is it helps Minnesota right away, and it helps us in 2 or 3 years when we hopefully are good.

Granlund is statistically showing he can do it in the minors, I like that, but he won't have the same impact as Kessel this year or next. I am still high on Dumba, if he was burning it up this year this trade might be off the table. I am not as high on Brodin, but we would probably have our pick of a list of prospects to choose from given the high quality we are giving up. I am confident Rielly and Percy can make our lineup next season to offset the loss of Gardiner.

You have to give up quality to get quality, if Kessel was not entering his UFA next year, this wouldn't even be a thought. But this is an excellent opportunity to make something positive out of perhaps a Burke mistake, 4-5 years ago.

I agree. It would also help our - ahem - tanking this year. If we added a high pick to a core of those guys, our future would be super super bright. Granlund, Coyle, Dumba/Brodin, Rielly, Mackinnon/Drouin/etc. I'm into it.

I probably would too. Gormley could be a top pairing guy.

Yep. Definitely. Gormley won Best Defender at the WJC... The winners since the lockout (going backwards)?

Gormley, Ellis, Pietrangelo, Karlsson, Doughty, E. Johnson, M. Staal, and Phaneuf.

Thats some pretty good company... Phoenix wouldnt do the trade though.

At some point they'll have to give up some of their D for forward help.

Yep. That would give us one of the top prospect pools in the league. If we did that (Minnesota wouldnt IMO), our "rebuild" would be essentially done. No plans for tanking after this, just building on top of that core, and Mackinnon/Rielly/Granlund should all be having an impact as early as next season.
