Good thing names didn't break his hand or arm. He's rolling right now. Maybe we got some steady lines finally. Howden line was great. Hayes Spooner and Names had some life.

They must've froze his arm.
We'll find out tomorrow if it blows up like a balloon

Ok, 3 stars for real:

1. Lundqvist
2. Zuccarello
3. The MSG camera guy panning to Fast after every play after his f*** up that resulted in SJ tying it

If there is any accountability, Fast comes out next game and Buchnevich goes back in.

Pionk is a better skater but that’s about it. Pionk’s passing and hands are not even close to Shattenkirks level let alone better than his. Not even close. The passing especially. Nope.
I would disagree. Shattenkirk is inconsistent and not as intelligent as Pionk, which is very important. Smarts are the most important thing when it comes to offense, in my opinion.

I would say Pionk’s hands are pretty close to Shattenkirk’s. You might have recency bias based on Shattenkirk’s shootout goal, but have you seen the moves Pionk can pull off? His passing is really good as well, but I will admit he whiffed on a couple easy ones recently.

I think when McQuaid or Claesson are healthy Pionk needs to sit for a few.

Guy needs to be stronger on the boards and in coverage if they’re going to deploy him like a defensive defenseman. If not then he needs to be sheltered. He screened Lundqvist on the first goal instead of clearing his man and then the third goal his poor, weak play was an abomination.

TDA had another nice game. The pair of him and Skjei is good. I also like Smith-Shatty as a pair. Staal-Pionk is just not good.

Nice of Kreider to wake up. He had a good third. Hayes was very good again. I honestly don’t know if they should move Hayes. I know assets and everything but he’s youngish, wants to be a Ranger and he’s a damn good hockey player.
Pionk needs to be played like a 2nd pairing two-way defenseman, with more emphasis on offense. He’s being played like an all situations #1 defenseman, with an emphasis on defense. That’s just not the player he is, although I will admit, he hasn’t been terrible in that role, which makes me very happy for his future.

Oh boy, the irony of telling me I might have recency bias while you're arguing that Pionk is a better player than Shattenkirk is too much for me.

Shattenkirk has played 548 NHL games and has 348 points in his career. That's a 52 point pace. NHL defensemen that score at a 52 point pace over that large of a sample size are unquestionably talented offensive defensemen.

Pionk has played what, 35 games in his career? He's shown some flashes but we still don't even know what he is let alone have enough evidence to show he's a better player than Shattenkirk. Come on man.

Well this I totally agree with. He's not a defensive defenseman, he needs to be somewhat sheltered and get favorable zone starts, not eating tough minutes.

But that’s sort of my point. Shattenkirk is old now. He’s regressed. He’s not the player he once was. Pionk is playing harder minutes than Shattenkirk, and is still doing better than him.

Shattenkirk was brought here to be a #1/#2 defenseman, and he’s struggling in a bottom 4 role. Pionk is supposed to be a bottom 4 defenseman, yet he’s doing better than Shattenkirk in a #1 defenseman role. And he’s being paid much less to do it.

The excuses have dried up for Shattenkirk. He no longer has a knee injury. Sure, he had a good game today. And one other one this season, but that’s about it. Just another supposed “star” player coming to New York and falling below expectations.

fun game, but why are they letting this coach ruin Chytil? under 9 minutes of icetime, only 2 points and 17 shots in 12 games? Either you play him or you let him play in AHL.

Same here. Quinn should not break them up. Ever. ADA made zero defensive mistakes tonight.
Hah I mean I wouldn't go that far, but I think they look great together.

"...[DeAneglo] puck-moving defenseman, skates really well, so, I think we both could feed off each other like that, and, one of us gets up in the play, the other stays back..."
This in particular is what I've noticed, a lot of on-ice communication, who's jumping up, staying back, covering who, etc. Must be nice for Skjei to play with a partner who can skate and pass, unlike Adam McQuaid.

“I thought we worked well together,” Skjei said following practice. “Obviously, Tony is very good with the puck, so we want to have possession, make plays with it, and be responsible on the D-side of it.”Skjei has struggled to find his game. His decision making has seemed faulty. He appears to be guessing and a bit off balance. It could be a confidence thing.

Lol I meant I don’t remember any mistakes, but someone told me he made a bad pass or something, a rarity in ADA’s case. And I’ve always assumed the two would be a good pairing. This could be our middle pairing for years if all goes well.

What an exciting game. Every player came out to play tonight. I also thought the lines tonight looked really good, perhaps swap Buchnevich and Letteri next game, but I'd like to see the first line play together again. Speaking of the first line, how many here are surprised by Namestnikov? Some people here were calling for a trade to the highest bidder about a week ago but he's progressively made more and more of an impact in each game as of late. Even the coach has him up on the first line. Absolutely relentless.

Felt great watching Kreids score 2, both important goals, also had a chuckle in the 3rd when the team went full-on Torts blocking shots. Staal looks to be in good form, he played 21:51 (including killing off the penalty in overtime), and I do think a big part of that is DQ figuring out how to properly use him. He looks great compared to last season. Good game and finally a team that looks alive and hungry!

Great game, would have liked to have won in regulation and not have Hank give up that goal with .5 seconds left, but I'll take it. Nice Halloween game, full of tricks and treats.
