Only the Sabres could take a penalty while on an odd-man rush.

Good job Sabres, way to go.

Miller is keeping us in this, it looks like most of the team already just wants to hit the showers.

edit: Lol, guess my feed is late. Nice pass from CoHo there!

One of my biggest concerns with the Sabres entering the season was lack of team speed. People can badmouth Afinogenov all they want, but he was a valuable asset with his ability to back-off the defense and create space/opportunities for himself and his teammates. This team desperate needs someone like that. A burner that keeps the defense honest...Sans the tenendcy to over-stickhandle and turn the puck over of course. :)

They had a lot more than just Afinogenov -- Campbell's blueline presence gave them a dimension they don't have with Myers playing the way he has and guys who were once good skaters are getting long in the tooth (Hecht especially). Ennis gives them the attack the the blueline, but they're slow-footed on the rest of the lines.

ennis can be that guy when he's on his game, but aside from him and gerbe, who has done nothing this year, they're pretty slow up front

Forgot Gerbe. Granted, he's not all that involved being in and out of the lineup.

Sekera/Weber have been a disaster.

Weber before just had to play it hard up the wall like he's done almost every night since coming back into the lineup. Instead? Right into the man and a marathon shift.

Beat me to it. Leo is pathetic.

Tripping Ehrhoff on the Tavares goal was so typical of how his season has gone.

And Ehrhoff makes it 2-1. Heh. Shocking.

While Ennis has decent/good speed he's not the elite level skater like Max was. Ennis relies more on his shiftiness and quick change of direction to create separation, not his natural speed.

Definitely, when Max had the puck the entire arena stood up to watch him.

How you qualify Hodgson's skating after the work he did this summer with Roberts? I think he's a lot faster/more explosive vs last year

Yeah, he's getting up the ice faster. His first step quickness is better, as is his straight line speed. He's looking a lot more stable too -- not on his ass nearly as much in traffic any more.

Ha, that's funny...the Flyers. Vanek had 5 points.

It was the only game I could think of where the Sabres looked like a good all around team that could possibly win without Vanek. I considered the Bruins game as well, but of course Vanek had 5 points including a hatty in that one.

IDK, I guess either 1/9/1 and they beat Toronto or 0/10/1 without Vanek.

We all know that Vanek has been accused of having cement shoes but he doesn't look "slow."

I think it's more of a playing 100%, than just being slow. VHP hustle almost every shift, we don't see slow. I'd bet Grigs is faster than atleast VH, giving Pomms a run but he floats and looks slow. Myers glides. It's the hustle factor.

Vanek does look more engaged and quicker. There isn't a lot of all-out effort for most of the lines out there.

What is crazy is last summer was coho's first full summer of training since his draft year without having to do any rehab. He is only going to improve. :naughty:

This team is awful........like Idc we are winning the shots and just everything. Leopold is so atrocious. There's gotta be some team that doesn't know how bad he is....Jesus. And this "fighting line" doesn't even fight they're useless. Why can Kevin Porter be here? Not saying he's the answer but jesus

We can hope. He's not going to be a natural burner, but if he can improve his drive and first step, he'll continue to get to pucks that his brain and hands will turn into quality chances. (And we can hope he rounds off the rough, 2nd year edges in his own zone... please.)

I seriously think that getting Leino back will really help the team. He brings a new dimension to the 3rd line, will get Grigs some more ice time, and will get some of the dead weight scratched.
