Looking for some tips here because I finally went and cut the chord. What's the simplest cost-effective way to catch the occasional Flyers game? I barely watched any hockey last year, but maybe I'll be less apathetic in the future? Does ESPN+ get me any games with the Disney / Hulu bundle? I live in Philly, so local games would be blocked out, do I have that right? What about national broadcasts on other networks? I supposed I could just use a VPN if I really needed to to get around the blackout issue, but any advice would be appreciated.
We use Youtube TV. ESPN+ will get you the nationally televised games that ESPN carries. Hulu will also. Huly with Live TV may get you the nbcsn philly broadcasts
I cut the cord a month ago. I was adding an apartment to my residency catalog and was going to set up a new Comcast service there with Internet and TV. After they told me I had to pay $50 for a "set up service" I decided to look into other options. I essentially went from possibly paying $400 for Comcast to provide the same Internet and TV services at two addresses to paying Comcast a total of $70 a month for internet at both locations and then the Hulu Live TV Bundle with D+ and ESPN+ for $75 a month. I'm sitting at a total of $145 instead of $400 with many more options than I had before. The only Channel I actually lost in the switch was AMC, which you could get AMC+ for like $6 a month if you really needed it.
Up front I bought two Netgear Modems (The CM700 which is about $100 for one, one for each residence), two Amazon Fire Sticks (about $30 for one, one for each residence), and two packs of three Google Mesh Pucks ($160 each, used 5 in the house and 1 in the new apartment). I got all that stuff on Amazon Prime day, so in total I paid around $400 for all that. I'll break even and start saving money in month 2.
My dad is now dropping his $300 Comcast Internet, TV, Phone monthly cost to the $35 a month internet. He is then getting the same set up, the Netgear modem, the Fire Stick and a set of three Google Pucks for a total of $290. Almost a month one break even.
Until they actually start cracking down on trying to stop having various streaming accounts working at multiple residences, between the two of us we're paying $75 a month for Hulu Live TV, Disney+, and ESPN+, $16 a month for Amazon Prime, and $17 a month for Netflix and that covers three different residences. I'm going to rotate adding things like Apple TV and HBO by month depending on what is being released. Each one has the $35.00 a month internet connection from Comcast. Huge savings with even more options, especially with all of the free streaming options on the Firestick live Freevee, Tubi, and Pluto. My dad said he is actually excited to retire now because he has so many shows to watch or rewatch because those free streaming options have a ton of old shows he grew up watching.
And I didn't lose a single local Philly Sports game.
I'd highly suggest this course of action to anyone.
