Yeh, but Haaland walks around Manchester on his own at times and just gets photo and autograph requests and the odd person telling him he signed for the wrong club aha.

Same for Ronaldo when he lived in MCR.

Albeit they all live in the posh southern suburbs where most of their neighbours are millionaires as well (or at least have salaries of say $150,000+ a year). So there? Can go to cafes, the bar etc and mostly no problems.

Biggest issue that superstars face here is their houses being robbed when playing a concert or game aha. Manchester and Liverpool especially are famous for it.
There's also the fact that they live there that likely plays a difference. Taylor Swift isn't really from around here. The idea that she's in a shore town in New Jersey is very odd. Although, i've heard that she is in LBI semi-often actually. I know her album has some pictures from there. Why she's there so often? No idea.

Maybe things have changed since social media became bigger but I remember eating dinner at the table next to Chase Utley and Pat Burrell (and their wives/girlfriends) the day after they won the World Series in '08. No one bothered them. They went about their dinner in peace. You would have thought that people would be bothering them with what just happened but nope.

Little side note on that one, my dad did wind up buying their dinner and when they found that out they came over and thanked him which was cool. Actually Pat Burrell remembered them when they saw each other at a game in the 2009 World Series when Pat was no longer on the team.

Long story short though is that America is obsessed with celebrities as a whole. They're our "kings" and "queens." I'll never understand the obsession with celebrities myself. Stand on sidewalk and try to sneak a peak? Maybe that's cool. Trying to scale siding to peer inside of a window? Weird AF.
The bride and groom are celebrities themselves (Jack Antonoff and Margaret Qualley), just nowhere near the level of Swift.
They are, certainly. Channing Tatum and Zoe Kravitz are in town also for it. Tatum's outfit was elite levels of no f***s given.

I've heard she's been there before too. I'm assuming LBI was her beach vacation spot while growing up in Berks County and she wants to dip into that nostalgia every now and then.

Channing should have worn his wardrobe from This is the End instead.

Dave Grohl goes down to Rehobeth/Lewes Beaches here in Delaware every few years and for the most part gets left alone. Every once and a while they'll ask for a picture

The difference is that Elvis (and other insanely famous musical acts like The Beatles, Michael Jackson, Madonna, etc.) had unforgettable smash hit songs that will stand the test of time. Taylor Swift has hit songs because of who she is, not because they are particularly memorable or good. I listen to every genre of music and can't name 3 Taylor Swift songs. People seem to love her more than her music. It's culcult-like
All the performers you mention made their insane stardom off of teenage girls at first. Swift is no different. Neither you or I are fans of her music, and the industry has changed so much. Time will tell if her songs stand the test.

Me and my wife have a strong distaste for Tay Tay but it's undeniable she has some memorable songs. Shake it off is every where. That song is in my head daily because my daughter watches the movie SING and wants to listen to it all the time.

She's better than Lizzo at least. Not a fanboy but I don't hate her songs either necessarily. I just wish the music industry developed more band talents like back in the day vs these pop soloists. Heard Green Day is at least making a come back

Feels like every non-pop genre that gets popular eventually divulges into commercial pop.

Taylor Swift is garbage. Lizzo is a blob of rancid fat. Modern music is completely void without any soul. Oldies and stuff from the 2000s still hold up well. I'd rather listen to video game soundtracks than any of this random assortment of words and auto tune that is called music nowadays.

What do you mean by modern music? Whatever's on the Top 40? I don't think anyone has enough time to have a valid opinion on the state of music. There's simply too much to consume now.

It does seem like music as a more "soulful" art form got really watered down (commercialized) though since about the end of the aughts...

Every decade has shit color-by-number popular music, good popular music, and more niche stuff. But we don’t consume music the same today, so you get more and more niche stuff at the expense of these universally agreed upon titans — and I don’t mean that only regarding popularity. But if you want music with soul, there’s always music with soul. (I don’t think the movie industry is any different.)

Not going to lie, I like some recent Taylor Swift a la carte. And I’m all over the place with my tastes. Her last album, Midnights, has some bangers (“Lavender Haze” I think is the standout). I also think I’m an Antonoff fan as a producer. Probably not a coincidence Lana Del Rey and Lorde are two of my favorite contemporary artists, and he’s produced for both. Every Lana album since Norman F-ing Rockwell (shoutout @DancingPanther ) knocks me on my ass with its soul.

The majority of my listening is still in the 60s-90s decades, but for whatever reason pretty much all my newer favorite artists/singers today are female. Snail Mail, Wolf Alice, Phoebe Bridgers, along with the above. I have no idea if that’s just random personal taste or something in the industry at large.
