I mean that's just embarrassing. In actual hockey you can't blame Peters for literally anything in the last 3 games, but holy hell even Cam hasn't embarassed himself that badly in the skills competition before. And he is abysmal at it.

Pete Dawg got one more point out of this game than I envisioned so good on him though.

We have a systemic problem with the shootout when guys are able to come up from the AHL and be more competent than our star players. Look who scored for Minnesota and look who stayed on our bench. Not much more to be said. Regardless of how bad Peters looked, at some point you have to bail out the goaltender in these situations by converting on more than 1 of 3 chances.

Glad they gave Terry the tap over the boards. I was thinking that they might be unaware of his proficiency in that capacity and pass him over.

That's pretty much the only thing keeping me from raging about that SO. Peters has done 100% of what was asked of him up to that point... asking him to win a shootout is too much.

it is what it is. I don't think the Canes are winning many or any shootout games regardless of the goalie.

Unless they bring up AHL ringers.

At least the islanders lost.

Well if you can't score goals in regulation, why would you be able to score in a shoutout? I'd agree, you'd like to pick Peters up there, but they went 1 for 2 and Nash missed by a 1/4 of an inch.

Peters is an AHL Goalie. The defense has been very good these last few games at playing a style tailored to cover for his weaknesses. That's good coaching and good teamwork, not to mention some decent skill, all traits we're not used to seeing on the Hurricanes defense.

But Peters, one on one versus serious NHL skill? Yeah, don't get your hopes up.

Probably also worth noting the 3 guys Minny sent were over 35% shooters which is at worst above average.

There's two ways to look at tonight's game:

1. This was probably one of our better games this season, solid defensively and in goal, and created a lot of chances offensively. And they had a golden chance in OT to end it. And it still wasn't enough to win.

2. This team, without both starting goaltenders and arguably their most dangerous offensive threat, has earned 5 points in the past 3 games. Not too shabby,

Basically, I was considering 1-1-2 over the next 4 a success. They haven't screwed themselves yet.

Yeah, this Western team swing looks painful.

Next is Colorado, then Anaheim and St. Louis, yeah?

Look forward to getting a better goalie back. Peters "Did what was asked", but what is asked is try to stop the first shot, and while you're spitting out juicy rebounds and flopping around out of position, all 5 guys will come back to cover for you.

On top of which, the team is playing very tentatively in the ozone to make sure to limit chances going the other way. Very few pinches from the D lately. I assume this is Peters related.

It's not really Peters giving us a chance, as much as an ultra conservative game plan executed very well giving them a chance.

Must have watched a different game than Wally, since I thought the Canes did a great job of sustaining offensive zone pressure, usually with the pinching D-man.

Was at the Checkers game tonight (they lost btw), but I saw the OT period on one of the numerous TVs in the arena.

Saw Parise score in the SO and walked out of the building knowing we were not going to win.

Canes, Y U no good at SO's?
