So many people sh!t on this team it's hard to keep track. I was responding to your post in which you stated the Rangers are so bad and they suck. Some games , yes, but other games they have looked really good. They are what they are. Very young and inconsistent.
I figured as much. I said that bc they are do bad and do suck. The inconsistency is a huge part of that evaluation. Unlike a lot of people here tho I'm very ok with that. In this case, as incontinent as we are it really hit me how bad the whole league is in that regard when I realized how close we are standings wise

Sidenote: this site is absolute garbage on an android. The stupid ass ads that show up on the bottom of the screen pop UP and block the damn text area when you click in it. As a result, you can't edit parts of a post unless you 'x' out of the ad. Problem is the 'X' is pathetically small so no matter how perfectly I hit it it just loads the damn ad.

I had to turn on my cpu just to finish this post bc of how absolutely broken the shit was.

The Rangers are a kind of weird "bad" team.

You see some teams lose because they just don't have enough skill and are bad. The Rangers though have enough skill to kind of punch above their weight offensively and their goaltenders are holding them in it defensively even though they give up shots at a ridiculous rate.

IT could all fall apart at any moment...it's hard to believe they can continue being the worst team in the league at shot differential and that won't bite them in the ass eventually, but they ARE skilled enough to keep putting in goals, they just need to figure out how to cut down on the shots allowed by a lot.
I think too much is made about SOG. If you keep a team on the outside with shots, it kinda skewers the importance of this stat. But that might not apply to the Rangers cause they seem to give up a lot of quality chances from in close. There are games though where they keep those chances to a minimum, but not consistently enough. But like you said, with the weapons we have in scoring, it could possibly counter a bad night or two in our zone. It won't sustain us long term, but will give us time to straighten things out defensively.

Howden has been good more nights than not for the past 2ish weeks... Bomut nobody wants to give him credit because lias is in the minors?

Howden is strange because when he's bad he's very noticeably bad, but he does manage to get himself involved in a lot of big plays. Contrast with someone like Kakko, who when he has a bad night he's just simply invisible.

On the penalty kill I noticed Fast really taking charge. He motioned Strome into position on one series and did something similar with Skeji a little later. Highly underrated player. A leader on the ice.

Watching the replay, I also liked a lot of what I saw from Trouba-Skeji. May in time be the true number one pair we so desperately need. Of course that leaves Hajek and Tony D on the third pair. Guess you have to give something to get something. Also speaks a little to how Trouba is really been carrying Hajek. I wish Rykov was ready for a spin.

I've been dying to watch just to see how bad he really is. But i just keep missing games. Without a DVR or VCR to setup and record, I just am too busy these days. I suspect I'd be 'disappointed' in how overblown is awfulness is.

I will say that that those in here who opposed us signing Panarin have been awfully quiet since the year started...wonder why...hmmm....lol
That's not fair. You know darn well we will be eating years of his contract 4 or 5 years from now. I don't think anyone could possibly complain about his production in the prime of his life. He's one of the top forwards in the league and has been for a while now. The question is for how much longer when he is in his 30's.

I recall vividly that "Should We Go Hard for Panarin" poll tread I started during the summer which got a ton of traction and the "for Panarin" peeps like moi barely had the advantage as it was something like 51% to 49%...it was that close.

Fast forward to current day and I'd think if that same poll of mine was posted, it would be more like 95% to 5% as I'm sure there are still a few hold outs in here who think us getting Panarin now won't coincide with when the team is truly ready to make a Cup run which IMO is BS but that was the narrative the "anti signing Panarin" peeps were espousing back in the summer...remember?

Not for nothing, but I don’t think there was much doubt from those opposed to the signing that he’d be good this year. It’s the long-term implications of the deal that had people worried and I don’t think him performing so well now allays those worries.

I’m not one of those people, but I don’t think a strong first 20 games changes much.

If you told me about a Rangers/Habs game involving a team jumping to a 4-0 lead and then losing (doesn’t matter which is which) I would have said “must be a Saturday night game in Montreal.”

As unpredictable as any Rangers/Islanders game.

Price has always had our number. If he got a 2 goal lead on us, it was as good as gold. That what makes this game just unbelievable. This was one for the record books vs MTL.

Just watched the highlights because AGAIN the game I DVR'ed didn't record. Does anyone have any recommendations for being able to record games with a streaming service? I'm done with Dish Network and paying for a Center Ice package that I can't enjoy because the games don't record when they should.

Whens the last time we put up a 6 spot on Price? Did we do it in the 14 playoffs? Cant remember

I remember that friggin game. Almost gave up on hockey after that one hahahahaha!

I went to sleep after 5-0. It was a pretty important game right? I remember being just devastated the morning after when I saw the score...

BTW, anyone know what happened to the post history at this place? Would be fun to go back and check the reactions.

Also kudos to Georgie for having a strong 3rd.

In the first half of the game he looked worse than he’s ever looked at the NHL level and 3 of those goals were atrocious. But he bounced back and had a strong third overall and got the win so good for him. Overall good for the boys for not just rolling over and dying for the second straight night.

One thing I must say is the Rangers puck movement is excellent. It doesn't even look like the Rangers at all from the new era.
Only when it's a track meet and they're allowed the time and space. Teams have their respective schemes. Ottawa, with theirs, completely neutered us. We haven't figured out how to adjust when it's a tight checking game.

Yeah, and our defense has big issues, and a lot of that is attributable to the fact that we play way to optimistic (all 5 guys on the ice).

But I think it’s important to remember that these offensive structures we set right now will keep paying of for a long time. And they take a long time to establish.

It is definitely preferable to at this point of the rebuild be too optimistic than being too defensive and conservative. Like good luck banning Lindgren, Hajak and co from being creative with the puck for their first 2 years and then bring in a coach that recognize that we must play better hockey and develop a possession game.

Yeah, and the NHL season is 82 games long. You cannot play a way that requires a team to play close to peak performance for it to work, and that will be a disaster if you only get an average effort.

With that said, I much rather err on this side of the equation.

I'm not of the opinion that the blowout losses were completely due to average to poor effort. I think they do compete and it's the when the opponent has planned Xs and Os on them that they continue to try and ram their skill/finesse style through. Then it looks like lack of effort when the timing of finesse touch outlet passes and the pretty spin around passes in the attack zone are off the mark or intercepted due to tighter checking

Exactly!

Like it’s so tremendously easy to play against a team that tries to do more than it is capable on that specific night. You only need to sit down a bit, and the other team will serve you high quality scoring chances.
