Jesus...the parity in this league.

We're soooo bad but look how close we are to teams in the standings and we have two games in hand (or more)on some of them. Buffalo. Remember how great they were to start the season?

Wasn't Montreal having a 'good' season? We have one less win.

And again...we SUCK...I think? Seriously how bad is this league? We're just a game or two behind all these teams and the devil's are 2 points behind us after their embarrassing start. It's impossible to suck hard in this league standings wise I swear, the league is too diluted and too atrociously coached

Well we are at least somewhere in the top 31 this year.

It's because we are not so bad as you think. We have beaten pretty decent teams like Pitt, Nashville, Tampa, Washington, Carolina, Winnipeg etc. This team is young and inconsistent and has had some really bad games but after the quarter point in the season we are still a basically .500 team. All this while missing their number 1 center for I think 12 games now. This team will not make the playoffs but they have some talent and just aren't that bad.

Kreider also very good this game. He appears to be trying to incorporate hitting into his game lately. As long as he keeps it clean it can be a very useful dimension for the team.
I think after last nights shellacking, Quinn reamed some of his vets. Kreider at the top of the list. Not nearly as involved as he should habe been and showed almost NO leadership. That changed quickly, and being physical with a stature such as his....should be easy to do. Well done.

They are exactly how bad I think they are. Which isn't THAT bad but definitely bad. I'm one of the ones more optimistic about this team and you're talking to me like I'm constantly shitting on them

we were on that 5-3 and I kinda cringed when krider took the puck in low to the net with no possibility of elevating it in the net or getting it through stacked pads. He is just so weak this year.

So many people sh!t on this team it's hard to keep track. I was responding to your post in which you stated the Rangers are so bad and they suck. Some games , yes, but other games they have looked really good. They are what they are. Very young and inconsistent.

When the Rangers first traded for him, there was a lot written about him being a “second tier” prospect, especially in the Boston blogosphere. My very reliable Minnesota contact told me he would be much better once he got out from under the lousy coaching at the University of Minnesota. His exact words; “Michael Sauer”. Damn good analysis.
IIRC, you and @nyr2k2 were speaking very highly of him since day 1.

I think Lindgren has earned a spot on this team for the remainder of the season.

The Rangers are a kind of weird "bad" team.

You see some teams lose because they just don't have enough skill and are bad. The Rangers though have enough skill to kind of punch above their weight offensively and their goaltenders are holding them in it defensively even though they give up shots at a ridiculous rate.

IT could all fall apart at any moment...it's hard to believe they can continue being the worst team in the league at shot differential and that won't bite them in the ass eventually, but they ARE skilled enough to keep putting in goals, they just need to figure out how to cut down on the shots allowed by a lot.

Will be interesting to see how things mix up with ZIbanejad back

It will be huge when they get him back. IMO he is the most important player on this team even though Panarin has been God like. Mika coming back pushes everybody down a slot. Zibs/Chytil/Strome/Howden is something I can live with.

I was getting ready when the score was 4 to 1 to come on here and say...you know..I actually think by and large we played a pretty good game...and stuff...

And then THAT happened.

‘by and large’ ? ... way too much time listening to Maloney. (He’s aged recently). Still enjoy him. Enjoy all - except Giannone.

We had a few skirmishes over Panarin during the offseason. I'm glad you see the light

I recall vividly that "Should We Go Hard for Panarin" poll tread I started during the summer which got a ton of traction and the "for Panarin" peeps like moi barely had the advantage as it was something like 51% to 49%...it was that close.

Fast forward to current day and I'd think if that same poll of mine was posted, it would be more like 95% to 5% as I'm sure there are still a few hold outs in here who think us getting Panarin now won't coincide with when the team is truly ready to make a Cup run which IMO is BS but that was the narrative the "anti signing Panarin" peeps were espousing back in the summer...remember?

I will say that that those in here who opposed us signing Panarin have been awfully quiet since the year started...wonder why...hmmm....lol

I don’t know that Quinn really has anything to do with the comeback. The team relies on individual talent and effort right now. There’s no discernible system or scheme.

Everyone talks about Quinn being a “good development coach”. Maybe he is. How about an actual coach though? If you can’t implement an NHL worthy system and all you do is preach work harder while supposedly doing a good job developing young players, I don’t really want you coaching my team. Players developing “well” but doing so in a losing environment without a sound system in place isn’t going to work out well. Losing is expected, of course, with such a young team but the fundamental things this team doesn’t do well, including from its veteran players are not so easily excused. I personally have not liked Quinn very much since last season and putting developing players aside, I don’t know that he actually knows how to coach NHL hockey.

Also who is to say DeAngelo wouldn’t have been just as good without “the Quinn approach”? I just don’t know that Quinn has a very long shelf life, because I don’t think he coaches the NHL game. He demands hard work and supposedly he’s developing our kids well (it’s tough to say if a kid is developing any differently due to Quinn or not) but the team can’t pass, is defensively clueless. I’m not convinced Quinn’s an NHL coach.
I very much agree on the systems aspect...I really do wonder wtf our system is. Half the time it seems like it's just...look at each other and figure out who's got who. There's like no support, no times overload, no communication, no heads up...nobody seems to know wtf they are doing.

It's almost worse than vigneault defensively because at least with av you know that was what he wanted... With our current setup I'm not even sure we're doing anything at all what the coach wants... Because there's no way this is our system.

I would bet that they leave Strome with Panarin and maybe even Chytil with Buch and Kreider and ZIbanejad takes Howdens's spot, at least at first. That'd actually be great for that line since Zibanejad can actually carry the puck up the ice and having a vet on that line is something it need really really really badly. It'd help Kakko out a lot to have a puck carrier on his line that can establish possession and let him actually do his thing in the offensive zone

I fell asleep, what was the final score? LOL!

Regardless what happens this season, it's gonna be a fun ride. Man o Man was that unbelievable. 6 goals on Carey Price? Only fitting the game winner trickled past him as if my baby brother was in net. LOL!
