I don't like this weird Australian math
We do things differently down here.
Just like our toilet flush.
But I don't like the weird American thing with putting the month in front of the day's date.
That **** just confuses me

Oh yeah Brassard scored, I almost forgot.

Nowhere did I say team skill level does not play a part in team shooting percentage. Obviously it does. What the numbers do show however is that there is not a drastic difference between teams abilities to score given shots. So much show that the main factor is the number of opportunities you get.

I just did some math with real numbers. Granted I took extremes, but these were still real numbers and realistic in the case of Ottawa and Toronto. I took the #1 team when it came to shots on goal and multiplied it by the worst shooting percentage of a team and the last team in shots on goal and multiplied it by the best shooting percentage of a team. So I used 4 numbers of real teams last season. The team that shot the puck the most times if they shot it with the lowest percentage scored 2.33 GAA, the team that shot the puck the least and shot it with the highest percentage scored 2.97 times. That's a HUGE difference. Looks like there IS a drastic difference. Unless you're saying a team shooting the most in the league has a higher probability of having a high shooting percentage. That was not the case last season. Ottawa shot the puck the most and had the lowest shooting percentage. Toronto the 3rd least and had the highest shooting percentage. Shots and percentage don't have anything to do with each other. So it's possible to not score a lot with lots of shots and vice versa.

I read that as "mouth" and not month and thought to myself "they don't kiss on dates in Australia? Are they prudes?"

Team needs to start scoring goals. Other than that they are playing great hockey, especially the Kreider-Zucc-Stepan-line. 44 Shots, Penalty shot, several break aways. And still a loss..... Hard to believe.

Seems like they need to start to have extra practices for shooting. They have one of the best goalies to practice on too....

I just watched the condensed version of the game (damn National broadcasts!) and the only real problem with our game was the lack of finish. You have to be happy with the amount of chances they got and the types of chances they got. How you can blame this game on Hank (like some of you always do) is beyond me... once again. "Hank gave up a breakaway goal!?! He sucks!"

If Stralsy's slapper goes off the post and in/if Kreider scores on the penalty shot (so close), if Richards bats that puck a couple of inches more to the right/etc... then the game may have gone quite differently.

So yeah... we suck at finishing right now... but the chances are there and that makes me feel somewhat at ease.

Play this game in Edmonton or Calgary on a professional sheet of ice, the Rangers score 8.

Why can those two arenas have great ice, and so many others not?
It's a disgrace to the worlds best league and players, to offer them slush to play on.
I cant believe the fans put up with it. And having a basketball game the same night as a hockey game? WTF. In Europe we need a week to lay a proper surface.

This was the most frustrating game for me all season. Way worse than the disasters out west early! It was frustrating because the Rangers had so many scoring chances( a huge plus) but just could not score! I'm beginning to wonder if it is a mental thing and guys just tense up around the net but something has to give.

The team is clearly better now than the start and with this lineup we can be competitive. Krieder is absolutely the best player on the ice right now. I have to say though, the rest of the team could step it up a bit. Callahan was largely no where to be found last night( unfortunately becoming a common trend) Nash, got some shots, but never got the puck past the goalie. It seems like when the big guys need to come up big, they come up small. Truthfully, the x's and o's are in place to win. It's now just about the last few pieces falling in place and I can totally see this team really taking off.

No one's going to say it because they'll find something to nitpick one mistake and make that the reason for the loss.

The common thread in the losses to Anaheim, New Jersey, Los Angeles, and Boston all on home ice, where the Rangers flat out DOMINATED in possession, territory, and scoring chances is the simple fact the ******* ICE SUCKS AT MSG!

Strange bounces off sticks, pucks bouncing over wide open players, pucks not being kept in at the point because of a strange bounce.

A BILLION (with a B) for BRIDGES, but not one dime to actually put a professional ice surface down.
+1 Why?

200th verse same as the first,
Pass up good shots and go the corner and pass.
Flub puck into goalie's chest 44 times.
Give up goals at the worst times.
Give up goals to fourth line scrubs.
Have puck bounce over stick.
Lose.

Yeah, couldn't see that one coming. :sarcasm:

It wasn't lack of effort that cost us this one, it was lack of skill.

They also are overthinking things and when they do that, they pull off unbelivable crap.

Who..what..why is this team seeing people on a breakaway or an odd man rush and someone with the puck either slows down because he wants more players to join the rush, or worse, they've got the semi breakaway but they are trying to pass it to someone else?!

Kiss..

Kiss..

KISS!

KEEP IT SIMPLE, STUPID!

J. Moore should go to the AHL, he's just playing very bad hockey.

Girardi..........just he's been garbage this season. There's no way around it.

Can we stop running into hot goalies? Please?

Trade Del Zotto or play him already, he honestly doesn't deserve this.

Brassard is a pretty good hockey player when he shoots the puck.

Stepan's horrifying faceoff skill is really hurting this team.

We need another finisher, even with Nash back. Kreider is just snakebitten to the max, but I don't think even with him it'd be enough.

I love Cally, but he's a really stupid hockey player.

Just nothing left to say. Score goals? Iunno.

On to Dallas.

Agreed.

Moore-Falk is an abysmal pairing, and I've said so from the start. Their defence on the Bruins' first goal was laughably bad. People were giving Falk credit for being physical, that's nice but you have to be a good hockey player first and Falk has been awful in every game. He has tilted the ice in the favor of the opposition to a ridiculous extent. Get Del Zotto back in ASAP.

And why has Del Zotto been sitting over Moore, who has been a clearly worse player even when both of them were playing? Don't let his skating and tendency to shoot fool you, he isn't a very good defenceman at this point. He should GTFO the PP as well. Put Staal-Strålman there instead. Gives us a RH shot on the 2nd unit as well as a pairing that knows each other well.

Callahan does make the occasional good play in the offensive zone, but boy is he an expert at killing offensive momentum. I knew beforehand that the Nash-Richards-Callahan was a stillborn as there were no one to drive the play on the line. Lo and behold they had the worst possession numbers on the team. Oh and Brassard and Pouliot, who has had brutal possession numbers recently, suddenly had amazing numbers after Hagelin got put on their line? Should we maybe let our best scorer, Nash, play with the player that is the best at putting his linemates in offensive situations, Hagelin?

That said, my god did we dominate! Keep playing like this and we'll do great things this season.

There is a reason for this. We only attack with our forwards. The goalie can always spot where the shot is coming from. Two guys working the puck around the boards and a third gets open, Rask is there before our guys even thought of delivering pass. Then we raise to the net to get rebounds, but we always face a three men wall around Rask once the shot has been taken.

-- We just needs to add an offensive punch to our blueline. --

I've missed a few games the last weeks. When I've seen the highlights from the games I've been mindboggled at how many awsome chances we are creating on a regular basis. Kreids-Step-Zucc has been shown more on these films than any other line I've seen in a long time etc. But then it has been a real eye-opener when watching the games live. Like, you just know what is coming all the time. We are three guys down low attacking against 3 + 1 basically. Our D's are at best just an option for the forward to get the puck sent back along the boards again. Etc etc etc.

I am not saying that we will score on avg 1.5 goals a game the rest of the season. But, you know, play the way we are against a good team on home ice and give up a goal, they will just make it extremely difficult for us while we got a ton of problems with making it difficult for them.

Zuccarello makes a stupid pass on the first goal. No problem with the pass. Sometimes you need to take a risk to make a play. You can't be afraid to make a play. That pass lead to the goal.

Moore-Falk need to play 12 minutes a games. They can do that.

Its time to move Del Zotto. Its his fifth season. Cash in on the asset and move on. DZ will go from scapegoat to sympathetic figure. Poor DZ. Enough.

I thought it took skill to play roundabout with gigantor and his whole team for nearly 60 minutes of hockey ?

Demolish Pens "Omg this team is amazing" - Not demolish Bruins "This team has no skill".

That was a stupid pass - but Zuccarello backchecked and Moore was out of position. That goal is on Moore.

Seriously there are some games you can just see the disappointment coming a mile away.

The 11-12 team is the only one of recent memory that I had any faith in coming back from deficits and overcoming the usual list of adversities this team seems to continually become overwhelmed by. So far this year this team has been fragile after losing momentum or dominating play and getting scored on. At least they kept the foot on the gas last night, but even after the Brassard goal you knew what was coming. Said the same thing after the first goal against LA.

Sometimes it is unwarranted pessimism and sometimes you've seen this one a million times; there is no surprise ending. It's just a feeling you get.
