BTW, this game reminded me of a 2-1 Boston win in 11-12. Dominated that game. Outshot them by a similar, albeit smaller margin and Hank allowed one and arguably 2 questionable goals. Though, the chances we got in that game weren't nearly as good as this game.

Still harping on Hank? Lol

very frustrating to lose this game, but i guess this is how most fan bases felt in years past when henke was winning us games we had no business winning.

J. Moore should go to the AHL, he's just playing very bad hockey.

Girardi..........just he's been garbage this season. There's no way around it.

Can we stop running into hot goalies? Please?

Trade Del Zotto or play him already, he honestly doesn't deserve this.

Brassard is a pretty good hockey player when he shoots the puck.

Stepan's horrifying faceoff skill is really hurting this team.

We need another finisher, even with Nash back. Kreider is just snakebitten to the max, but I don't think even with him it'd be enough.

I love Cally, but he's a really stupid hockey player.

Just nothing left to say. Score goals? Iunno.

On to Dallas.

this board is completely unreadable when losses like this happen. Especially when it's basically 3 games in a row like this, where we can't score despite outplaying the opposition.

It was obviously an exaggeration. Also Toronto is again getting ridiculously outshot and winning. Two years in a row. They did it again today I just checked, lol. Every ****ing game. If you shoot a lot and they're all cupcakes, who cares how good the chances are? I understand that over 82 games this gets normalized some, but are you telling me that the Rangers will necessarily score more than Chicago if they get more shots than them? Does level of scorers on a team not matter? I think you're confusing correlation and causation. Teams that shoot more tend to score more, because teams that shoot more tend to create more offense and be better offensive. But they're not scoring more BECAUSE they have more shots. They're scoring because those teams tend to be better offensive teams. Unfortunately the Rangers are an outlier. Lots of guys that can pass, 1 guy that can shoot, who has played 3.3 periods. They're good at creating chances, but unlike those other teams they're not good at finishing. They will probably improve their shooting percentage up and score more, but I doubt they'll be any good with the lack of scorers.

Nowhere did I say team skill level does not play a part in team shooting percentage. Obviously it does. What the numbers do show however is that there is not a drastic difference between teams abilities to score given shots. So much show that the main factor is the number of opportunities you get.

We need to score goals though. Goals usually help goaltenders win games. Give me 10 goalies you want over Hank. He has bailed the team out plenty of times. If you dont see that then idk what to tell you.

I completely agree that there needs to be a shift in mentality on this team to shoot first, ask questions later. Zuccarello has passed up at the very least 2 blaring golden opportunities to rip a shot and opted to make some awful pass across the last 2 games that could have been difference-makers. Stepan has done the same. The way top contenders seem to build, I'd be fine with a mid-tier cheaper goalie (Holtby, Pavelec, Niemi, Halak, Eliott, Scrivens, Bernier) if that allowed us to spend a little more on better players up and down the roster. I never said Lundqvist has never bailed the team out either, but I'm hard-pressed to think of the last game that we were so far in over our heads that he really stole and the Rangers came out on top. It seems like we're hearing more and more that Hank is getting outplayed by other goalies. Now is that misdirected towards Hank because the team in front of him isn't scoring or is he actually getting outplayed?

Just goes to show how spoiled we've been with him.

If we could win based solely on the story of first 7 years of his play, we'd be golden. Unfortunately we have to deal with the here and now and frankly his play some nights has left some to the imagination.

In no way am I advocating trading Lundqvist or saying he's suddenly slipping into mediocrity, but looking at some of the goals he lets in and WHEN he lets them in has me scratching my head sometimes. Then again a lot of things this team does leaves me scratching my head.

NEW YORK – Just nine days ago, the Rangers had scored four-or-more goals in three straight games.

In their last four games, they’ve scored a total of four goals. Perhaps not surprisingly, the scoring slump has them in the throes of a 1-3-0 streak, falling to 10-11-0 on the season. But that’s all it is: a slump.

“You go through this every year,” said captain Ryan Callahan, who had three shots on goal in 19:01 of ice time. “There are stretches where it seems like everything is going in, there are stretches where you can’t put it in. I think the biggest thing is to make sure you’re playing well, make sure you’re getting those opportunities.”

Okay, frustrations now calmed, a couple of things I noticed (outside of the obvious like Kreider being phenomenal again, Nash looking pretty good his first game back, Brassard playing well, etc.):

1) Stepan, after being somewhat invisible the last couple of games (and boning that one pass that should have sprung Zucc), seemed to find something in the second half of the third period. I don't want to put too much importance on only half a period, but that's the best I've seen him look in quite a few games (despite the success of his line). Hopefully he's got "it" again.

2) Someone else pointed it out, but I just don't think Girardi is a great fit for this system. He's still a rock when he's focusing on defending the other team in his own zone, but he just doesn't look comfortable in transition or possessing the puck.

3) I think it's become in vogue to bash Moore. I thought he looked good (especially for a 3rd pairing defenseman) and showed some of what we all really liked last year and in the preseason.

4) Richards has looked pretty bad for a while now and it's gone mostly unremarked. That said, he was better tonight.

5) Well, we've seen the major hole in Falk's game. For the most part, he's looked pretty good and, when he can read the play, he generally can keep up pretty well once he gets going. But, when he's forced to react and get back, he's just slow as molasses. His speed is okay for his size, but his acceleration is for ****. I swear, he looked like Wile E. Coyote on the goal against as he tried to stop and get going back the other way. Still, he's the perfect 7th guy. Big, tough, can play both sides - he just has that one major flaw that will probably always keep him from being a top 6 player.

Does anyone else think that everyone is just holding a magnifying glass to Hank because this team can't score a goal to save their lives? He's let in 3 goals in the last 2 games, you seriously going to ***** about that?

Well clearly if he shut Boston out we would have won 1-0.
Clearly.

He was AMAZING against the Kings. Only real elite game of the season so far. This game we didn't give up much and couldn't score a goalie of his caliber needs to rise to the occasion.

he has multiple shut outs on the season as well. was he only ok in these games?

Speaking of "rising to the occasion", the last time a forward scored an ES goal was 10 days ago. 260 minutes of game time ago.

I missed the Caps game to be fair and parts of the Sabres game. From what I heard about the Caps game, we dominated them, from what I saw in the Sabres game at least on highlights he made some good saves but he also didn't face that much. A shutout doesn't necessarily mean you were great. Talbot's shutout is a testament to that. The Kings game his only ELITE game.

First of all I've criticized the finish. Second of all, this team has one forward that's better than what ranges from average to above average and he played one of those 3 games after missing 6 weeks. Lundqvist is supposed to be a super duper star.
