They were excellent defensive d-men in their time...but I wouldn't go as far as to say they were "shut down". Even in their prime, opposing players had way too much freedom in our defensive end.

Ask Alex Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby if those two were 'shut down' or not.

It’s just so frustrating to see Haley out there game after game. Obviously Lias has a long way to go, but how can he succeed next to Haley. I know it’s been beaten to death around here, but come on already.

Lias' Loesnt deserve more ice time. The only argument people give when trying to say why lias' deserves more ice time is to put down other players like howden.

I thought howden was good today but whatever.

Lias' isn't going to play more until he starts doing something rather than being a huge gaping black hole of death whenever the puck touches his stick. Offense dies on his stick with regularity.

My mom is currently suffering from this season's flu and it is no friggin' joke. Yeah, she's obviously not an elite athlete in her 20s, but she's been in bed for like 8-9 straight days.

I got the flu exactly once in my life..I thought I was going to die. 14 straight days of being bed ridden. 30 days till I felt normalish..60 days till I was 100%. It was like 6 or 7 years ago. Since then I get the flu shot the second it's available... I've gotten the flu 1 more time since then but with the flu shot i felt mildly sick for 2 days and that was it.

Flu shots are the best thing ever.

I've been on the "Lias needs more ice time" train, but I'll say this - McKegg has been more influential in his ice time than either Lias or Howden. Both guys need to be in the AHL right now, and I'm genuinely concerned about their development. Bring up Lettieri and Nieves.

Also - anyone else tired of the "let's pass the puck around in a circle" strategy in the last few minutes of the game with the goalie pulled? I get it - you don't want to take dumb shots that get blocked, but how have NHL players & coaches not realized that the winning strategy is to throws pucks and bodies at the net. Just f***ing get the puck near the goalie, you have three guys crowding the slot. You have a better chance of success that way.

Don't know about Cindy, but I do know that Staal's best games came against Alley-O -- he seems to save his physical play just for him.

Stat geeks.. How many scoring chances have the NYR given up in the last 5 games?

Do with this what you will, but at 5v5, these are the amount of scoring chances / high danger scoring chances we've given up:

Carolina: 43/18
Florida: 23/ 8
Pittsburgh: 22/7
Tampa: 19/ 5
Florida: 23 / 7

Disclaimer: the scoring chances metric is a bit wonky, and I prefer HDCF and xGF. These are based on shot type and location and don't factor in pre-shot puck movement like what Vally tracks.

In what world is that? Howden is awful.......

He and Lias should both be in the AHL. The only difference between the two is Howden gets far more ice time (without reason) and therefore once in a while produces more chances. I'm confident that if Lias got the ice-time (and linemates) of Howden, he would look identical, if not better.

They are both not ready for the NHL. And neither should be here right now.
