Because an average performance for Igor would have given up 2-3 goals. Considering Georgiev didn't make any big saves and gave up 4 bad goals the defense wasn't nearly as bad as you say it was.

Defense was pretty damned bad. This would have been one of those "steal and run away fast" wins if Igor was in net and pulled it off. And another poster said it before, Edm goalie was even worse.

Because he does a lot of shit no one on this team does like kill penalties effectively, win important faceoffs once in a while and he is actually on pace for over 40 points while having zero pp time. He is definitely not the problem on this team.
I just don't think any of those attributes of his work in overtime 3 on 3.

I'd sit them both for a game or two in the press box and have them write down everything that the team does well and everything that they can improve on, and why they would be a part of the solution. If they're totally out to lunch on what team they're on and what the expectations are for them, that would tell me everything I need to know about whether they're part of the long term solution or not.

Lafreniere in particular is bordering on needing some Hartford time.

Instead of sitting them I’d put them in a position to succeed instead of putting one on the fourth line and stapling the other one to a line he doesn’t work on.

Last time I checked there were 60 minutes in a hockey game. No game is secure against the Oilers when we stop playing with 10 minutes left in the 2nd. Then take stupid penalties. Then just skate around our D zone like we're on a penalty kill. Not pick up our defensive assignments. Not clear the puck. Leave players wide open. I can keep going if you'd like.

And when that happens, when all these assignments fail and responsibilities are ignored you need an anchor in the back who can hold the ship together. Georgiev is NOT it.

Being a goalie is an ungrateful job because your mistakes are amplified. I don't think anyone expects Georgiev to be perfect, nor should we. We should however expect a solid showing and 6 GA is not a solid showing regardless of how many mistakes the team ahead of you makes.
Shesterkin and Georgiev have the same team in front of them, one delivers the other doesn't. I'd rather have the guy that delivers when it's needed and not the guy who oozes insecurity.

Putting them in the press box isn't going make them skate quicker, it's not going to speed up their decision making process, it's not going to make Lafreniere move his f***ing feet or Kakko learn how to find teammates or get to the middle of the ice with the puck on his stick. It's year 3 for Kakko, if he doesn't have it by now he's not going to be what anyone thought he would be. Doesn't have skills that translate.

Name one big save Georgiev made. I missed a couple of minutes in the third period and I didn't see one. He gave up 4 terrible goals. This would not have been anywhere near a heist. Much closer to the Winnipeg game than the Leafs game. Lots of shots, few amazing chances. The defense was not nearly as bad as you make it out to be. Georgiev single handedly lost us this game.

Imagine being a single slap shot away in a 4-1 game from having a mental collapse. Team scrambled because they had no faith in Georgiev. The team just buckled because they saw how panicked their goalie was.

He's f***ing terrible, I don't give a damn that he shot 25% the last 30 games of last season. That extension is horrible and it doesn't even kick in until next season.

He and Panarin should be demoted. Both have been dogging it since the get go this season.

Play the lines like this from most to least ice time....

Did the team play like shit? Yup. But every f***ing goal he gave up was atrocious. I understand if the these guys were scoring on slam dunks but not one was expect that McD goal.
