Also its about avoiding Pittsburgh. Just an example I'd rather be a 5 seed and face someone else than say a 2 seed and face Pittsburgh (but lets be honest Penguins will probably finish ahead of us)

I'm so sick of this mentality. We have to be able to/find ways to beat the Pens, not avoid playing them at all costs in fear of losing. We have to be able to go toe-to-toe with teams like Pittsburgh, Boston, Detroit, etc. and on a somewhat regular basis. Why can't we be the team everyone is afraid to play for once? Otherwise, what are we going to do, pray we always get the easy match ups? Sure, a win's a win, but if we're always going around with our tails tucked between our legs because we're afraid of certain match ups, it's lame.

No we don't, the path was cleared last year and we blew it. You have to take advantage of situations and we really let one pass last season.

For some reason the Rangers played scared against the pens. I dodnt know if they are scared of penalties or whatever but they ahve to be mentally tougher when they play the. The devils looks focused and they beat the. The Rangers have to have that same mentality

Sure we do, because we're not always going to get the match ups we want. That's what we call "dealing with what life throws at you" and "rising to the occasion." Can't keep living in the past because last year is over and done. We didn't win, gotta get over that. We have to find ways to beat those strong teams otherwise we're going to just keep praying to face Columbus in the SCF. And even that would be an "awful match up" considering they're 50% ex-Rangers.

The Stanley Cup Champion every year was the 5th seed or higher before last year, and it was the 4th or higher except for 95. Seriously one year doesn't prove ****.

It indicates it is possible, just unlikely. If nothing else, hopefully it will cut down n "Lets tank" threads for teams in competition for the #8 spot.

I completely agree with this. Doesn't matter who the opposition. Hate the mindset of ducking a team because you don't think you can't beat them.

Any team...anytime! Bring it!

I mean sure, its great to say ANY TEAM BRING IT LETS GO but reality says we should hope we avoid teams that we matchup poorly against. If it happens and we face them sure lets go lets beat em but it would be stupid to hope for that

What better way to fix their mentality against Pittsburgh than by playing them and winning?

0% chance we beat Pittsburgh in a 7 game series. I'd be shocked if we aren't swept tbh. This is why so many Rangers fans were relieved when Philly knocked off Pittsburgh last year.

Pretty much, any team that uses skill/speed can beat the Rangers. The only real way to beat Pitt is to play a puck possession game against them.

The Rangers system is too defensive against certain teams. Its the same reason why we would struggle against Montreal.

0%? Let me borrow your crystal ball for a little while.

What does it say about tonight's game?

I honestly think it is possible, but I'm not sure about this season only because I think it will take a full training camp for this team to really gel. I believe they can because I really feel that losing staal makes them a less deep team. Sure they got Brandon sutter and he is a great player. And, yes they have Malkin, Crosby, and Neal, but really behind them they don't seem that deep of a team in my opinion. Also, the few times I watch Malkin I see how easily he can be frustrated and taken off his game.

Well we clearly would beat them if the lineup looked like this:

Boyle-Boyle-Boyle
Boyle-Boyle-Boyle
Boyle-Boyle-Boyle
Boyle-Boyle-Boyle

Boyle-Boyle
Boyle-Boyle
Boyle-Boyle

Lundqvist (he does like Lundqvist)

Rangers lose 4-2. Stamkos Hatty.

Its going to be a battle for sure. Tampa is rested and I would bet they are going to be MUCH faster than they were last game(be shocked if they weren't).

Rangers are going to have to contain their speed or make them pay on the forecheck.

A startling lack of Johnny Malkin.
