so if we have

Horvat EP Boeser Ferland Hughes as our # 1 PP line

how does

goldobin Manukyan Podkolzin Tryamkin and Hoglander sound as our Russian 2nd PP unit? Won't be here until 2021 but it would sure change things up ....

So much wrong here

1 Hoglander aint Russian
2 Manukyan has a very small chance to make the NHL
3 Goldobin is done here
4 Betting on Tryamkin still Billy?
5 lets see Podzkolin play play ONE nhl game before saying will be a pp kinda guy

I think the poster wasn't attempting a serious projection -- just enjoying some fantasizing and sharing it, which I appreciated.

Hoglander's paternal great-grandfather was Russian.

1 - obviously, no one else to slot in.
2 - not sure, he has the skill set i think. Agreed unlikely.
3 - they qualified him.
4 - all indications are that he will sign next year, if not at the end of his season this year.
5 - he's our top prospect after Hughes, and he will be draft + 2 before he plays a game ... very good chance he's one of our top players in 2 or 3 years.

Did you like the Podkolzin pick? Was there someone else on the board you would have preferred?

There really isn’t such a thing as a winger who’s a perennial selke candidate

It's hard to win the Selke if you're not a C these days, but there is some historical precedence for wingers winning the trophy. Lehtinen won the award 3 times.

Well ya know Scott, I like to follow prospects but i find i have made mistakes prediting them in the past so Im not sure my point of view is something Im gonna shout about any more. I really wanted Zegras or Boldy, and tbh based on what I heard didnt think Podkolzin was even a consideration for us so i was not too informed of him before the draft. Ive tried finding out more about him but seems pretty divided what Ive read and seen. Im not happy taking a Russian that high tho Ive been pretty dam wrong in the past so Im not upset or anything about it, just wait and see

I was the guy who wanted Glass over Pettersson or wanted Ritchie over Ehlers and Nylander so take what Ive said as just another opinion.

I wanted zegras but did not expect him to fall even to 9 so when Detroit picked him I kinda just deflated.

Any time a teenager can basically hold his own in a top-tier, full-blown men's professional league in Europe, it has to do wonders for their development and for their status as prospects. Both Podkolzin (KHl) and Hoglander (SHL) will be performing against players a lot older, and a lot stronger.

But on the flip side, it's always hard to compare these guys to players in the NCAA or Major Junior, who might be dominating against players who aren't nearly as good. But playing pro in Europe means that both these kids could step into the Canucks lineup immediately with very little seasoning.

Burrows was the best defensive winger in the NHL and as good as Lehtinen ever was, and it's a shame how poorly that was recognized in Selke voting.

Mark Stone finishing 2nd this year was the closest any winger has been to winning in forever.

I wonder if Stone being on a much more high profile team this year will outweigh what he will lose in terms of games watched from being on a team that has tons of 10PM EST or later games.

Ya I know. The award has become an award for the best two way C.

I like the comparison to Kane. Also the Burrows and Landeskog comparisons could have aspects that fit Pod as well. Kane is really a horse, and was derailed by some devastating injuries, which were cause because of his reckless style. He is not dumb or low IQ (although I don’t like his personality). Hockey wise he is smart, in that he uses the tools he has to the best. He is not a no-toolbox player. He just knows his strengths.

Not having seen anything but highlights, I’m also very intrigued at the upcoming KHL season. I think quite a few of us will be watching the Russian league games for the first time this year!

From watching Kane play, he is low "hockey IQ", to me. For what thats worth.
