A kid I work with today was complaining about it because there’s not enough action in general let alone with the infected compared to the game. He didn’t really seem to get if they did that they’d piss away a general audience beyond those that like/played the game. I was like they’re following a general structure of “The Walking Dead” which was a massive tv show series for a long time. It’s more human vs. human conflict with the zombies being the backdrop issue.
That formula is literally 99% of good zombie media. The zombies exist but are not the meat, they’re the potatoes. The struggle of the people is the meat of the show.

I watched Walking Dead for a few seasons. It was ok, then I saw Rick and Kuurl singlehandedly mow down a few hundred walkers and I thought, yea I'm out.

One thing I like about Last of Us is that it's set 15(?) years after the breakout, which sets it apart right away from any zombie show/movie I can think of (admittedly not many). Seems like a believable world.

If you want a 'realistic' zombie story, check out World War Z. The book, not the movie.

I read an interview with the show creators, including the game creator, and they talked about how the key to adapting a game, which is an insanely difficult task, was to remove a lot of the action and only have as much violence as the story needs. The film/TV medium is inherently about passively watching action, not interacting with it. The Last of Us succeeds tremendously as prestige TV because it's produced like prestige TV. Whining about not enough action -- and there is f***ing great action! -- seems like code for, "I have a short attention span and don't watch stuff for nuanced character development." When the violence and set pieces do happen, it's more emotionally and narratively impactful because it's about the set-up of dread and anticipation. Counterintuitively, wall-to-wall action can be insanely boring. It's all about pacing -- Michael Mann, not Michael Bay. And I've had enough zombie stabbing porn for a lifetime with The Walking Dead.

He’s one of those early 20 year olds that’s all into Marvel movies & such just to sum up his taste.

Honestly one thing I like about “The Last of Us” is the threat of potential conflict keeps you on the edge of your seat while watching whether it’s human or zombie conflict.

So, uh, anyone on here have any interest in VIP Boardwalk tickets for this festival over Memorial Day weekend?

I bought two pairs back in October thinking that my friend would be coming up for it and it's not looking like he'll be able to get off of work for it.

I can list them on Ticketmaster but they're not sold out yet and you can't list for less then their price which means they're not going to sell.

They're not cheap but figured i'd ask on here as you probably can save a few bucks because i'll just be trying to get what I can back.

I know like three of these bands.

Any nature doc fans, Frozen Planet 2 is pretty cool. I saw a pack of killer whales hunting seals on ice. They'd poke their heads out of the water and look around to find a seal floating on an ice raft. Then they would group up and swim side by side at the raft creating a wave with their tale flaps. The wave would topple the raft and poor seal goes into the water. They could also modify their wave to crest under larger ice islands to break them into smaller pieces that could be overturned. Amazing display of intelligence and downright ruthless. Awesome footage as usual with those shows.

Big fan of documentaries that cover how animals utilize strategy in their lives, especially when they work together. Like this. Absolutely incredible.
