Just watched a doc on Netflix called The Volcano Rescue from Whakaari
Pretty emotional in the final 10 or so minutes
I was a wreck the entire time watching it. I survived a house fire in 2015. I was out of the building within probably 30 seconds of hearing the smoke detector, and that was terrifying enough. The thought of getting stuck in a situation like that where you can't escape quickly (because you just aren't going to outrun a volcano) broke my heart. I was in tears by the end.

Yeah so was I. I cannot fathom the type of pain those people were in. The folks that perished on the rim. No one deserves to die like that.

he destroyed the top of the Kiwi lineup in the 4th session...kiwi's have some major issues on their team..bad bowling and not a consistent heavy bat

also Anderson reminds me of David Byrne lol

NZ are in a weird transitional phase... only 18 months ago were best team in the world and a few guys have retired, a few guys injured and then some not kind of fulfilling potential.

@trostol @Appleyard did you people see India put Australia straight into The Musher?

Nah, been pretty busy but wanted to aha.

What are your guys thoughts on HBO’s The Last of Us? I have no frame of reference for how it compares to the game since I haven’t played it (yet). So far, I’m really digging it. Fascinating story for sure.
It's been great so far. Some of the scenes are basically shot for shot remakes from the game, which is super cool if you've played it before. Some stuff is a bit different, but that's to be expected when adapting it for TV. It definitely helps that the game was essentially a playable movie too. Lots of plot-filled cutscenes done in a way that makes you actually watch them instead of skipping through.

Anyone have turtle(s)? My kids were gifted two Reeve turtles, and a 10 gal tank. It’s apparently too small for one long term and you shouldn’t keep more then one in an enclosure.
Any advice would be appreciated.

A kid I work with today was complaining about it because there’s not enough action in general let alone with the infected compared to the game. He didn’t really seem to get if they did that they’d piss away a general audience beyond those that like/played the game. I was like they’re following a general structure of “The Walking Dead” which was a massive tv show series for a long time. It’s more human vs. human conflict with the zombies being the backdrop issue.

The way I see it, you've got only one option.

I read an interview with the show creators, including the game creator, and they talked about how the key to adapting a game, which is an insanely difficult task, was to remove a lot of the action and only have as much violence as the story needs. The film/TV medium is inherently about passively watching action, not interacting with it. The Last of Us succeeds tremendously as prestige TV because it's produced like prestige TV. Whining about not enough action -- and there is f***ing great action! -- seems like code for, "I have a short attention span and don't watch stuff for nuanced character development." When the violence and set pieces do happen, it's more emotionally and narratively impactful because it's about the set-up of dread and anticipation. Counterintuitively, wall-to-wall action can be insanely boring. It's all about pacing -- Michael Mann, not Michael Bay. And I've had enough zombie stabbing porn for a lifetime with The Walking Dead.

I've thoroughly enjoyed it so far. I just recently played the game, and that was great as well. Especially for someone like me who doesn't game very often, because they keep it simple. Story is great, and I can't think of an adaptation that's stayed as close to the source material. There are some small changes and fleshing out of characters, and yes, less zombies than the game, but there are scenes that are verbatim from the game. I'm interested to know if this is a one off, as HBO doesn't often do that I think. The 1st season is on pace to end where the game does.

It was renewed for a second season which seemingly will be Part 2.

Which, uh, that should be interesting when it airs.
