Yea I don’t see like ANYTHING good in Mikas game. No battle level, nothing. He’s checked out. Outerspace.
I'm not sure what people expected. He's looked like this for a long time, except he goes on a ridiculous sh% run. A non-factor more often than not and now he doesn't have his playdriver and playmaker on his line to set him up. Good luck with that.

It's maddening to watch and despite it sounding stupid, Strome and Panarin are holding Kakko back.

Strome just have total tunnel vision with Panarin. He wants to play catch all shift and create a globetrotters play while Kakko is out there getting into good areas and nobody is getting him the puck.
I agree. Strome and Panarin seem to neglect Kakko. I’ve been adamant about swapping Goodrow and Kakko. No idea why it hasn’t even been considered yet considering the top 6 would all be on their natural sides and Panarin/Strome have found success with a Goodrow type player before (Fast, Blackwell)

Kreider-Zib-Kakko
Panarin-Strome-Goodrow

is all I ask for

I expected a player that just got paid to at least be engaged on the ice. And I don’t believe he was looking anything close to this at the end of last year. Even two years ago, he was defensively engaged. I’m not an advocate of his contract, but any one on the ice in the NHL would be expected to show anything more than what he is showing.

he is literally just floating out there

Looks all the vets have tuned Gallant out already and he can't/won't play the kids. Does he last the season ?

This team is unbelievably boring to watch now that Panarin looks like total crap.

There has to be more to that line than Panarin running around with his little butler Strome and everyone gives the puck to Panarin and watch him try to find a seam pass. Kakko's job cannot be the third wheel whose job is to find lose pucks and go stand in front of the net. They have to work as a unit.

e: I see others beat me to the point.

That’s not true. He was fantastic to finish last season and he deserved a pass for his start to the season. Now though, not so much. I thought he was great in pre-season and would comeback with a 2019/2020 type season but he just looks like a shell of himself. No confidence, no speed, no urgency, and isn’t taking good shots

Yep I’ve been asking for the same thing. It makes too much sense.

If they wanna keep Goodrow with Mika then swap Kakko and Blais. Get Kakko off that line.

The reports about Panarin and Strome not wanting to play with Kakko last year when in reality it should be Kakko not wanting the play with them.

The combination of the top 6 needs to change. Get Kakko on that top line, and a grinder on that right wing for the second line (like fast).

we are jamming a round peg into a square hole with these top 6 lines

I just can't believe that guys like Panarin and Mika don't have some pride.
Novel idea: separate cap into a base salary component and a performance bonus component. Make the aggregate 20% higher than it is now, reduce base cap by 50% and fill the rest with performance bonus.
