We're letting too many shots through, I remember we had a d-man who put it all on the line on the most high danger chances, he was the shot block king. Kris Russel, he wasn't the best but he often made the difference.
We have been so bad D zone wise, i wish I could actually watch every game of that 2005/2006 season lol. Yes we had Pronger, but we were averaging maybe 21/22 shots against a game. Some games 15 against lol. Only Detroit was better at shot suppression.

That is like watching porno compared to this group

From what I remember, Mac T had them doing a good job of clogging the middle and they blocked a lot of shots

Pathetic. The Rangers are going to make us their bitches on Saturday. Let's just stay the course though Ken, still gotta see if we're going to be buyers or sellers again right? Holland is here for the paycheck far more than trying to grow his legacy by actually giving a f*** and building another cup team.
The Oilers were just his laundering scheme to fast track Brad to an executive job. I wish we could go back to the days of the old boys club. At least with Kevin Lowe I knew he was invested in this franchise and made moves to try to bring the team success even if they were hit or miss. Even MacT as shit as he was you could tell he at least had the franchise's interests in mind. Heck the 3 best players on the team are all b/c of MacT. What the likes of Tambo/Chia/Holland do seem closer to sabotage than anything else. You'll never see them pull a rabbit out of the hat like Brewer+Woywitka+Lynch for Pronger nor Paajarvi+2nd for Perron.

One of these teams was trotting out dudes like Smith/Staios/Spacek/Greene while the other one is just trotting out Nurse+5x Marc Andre Bergeron.

This team to win as constructed would need to tread water 5 on 5 and always win the special teams battle. Tonight the power play went 0-5, and managed to give up a shortie, the PK gave up 1 in 2 chances. Then they lost the 5x5 battle. Beat down in all aspects.

Brutal work effort just of late but no panic at the quarter pole.

Lots of time to turn the ship around but it does seem like the players have been uncoachable for most of the last 15 years.

If we were playing well and had players that looked like they could put the puck in the net and paid attention in the D zone I would agree with your assessment. The reality is that there are a ton of issues with this team and we have a GM that moves at a sloth's pace and a coach that somehow worsened our team when given more time to implement his systems.
I can't disagree with the assessment. All I can say is I feel like we've gone through this whole exact chirade every year for the last 3. Team slumps, everyone gets angry cause it's a shit team. Then the shit team gets it's shit together and we hit the playoffs.

I know there's holes to fill and understand why people don't think the GM can help. It's all fair.

That said, with three quarters of a season to play, it's just way too hard to get upset that we're "out of a playoff spot". People can buy into the American Thanksgiving stuff, but it will never mean anything to me. Especially since the team is 10-10 and not 5-15 or something. Doing the whole "we're in!" "We're out!" every game for the next four months seems silly. The playoff race starts around the deadline, imo.

If we hit the new year and we're well below .500 I'll happily say I'm the fool.

Personally, I couldn't care less if they squeak in by a hair. It really doesn't matter as long as they get in. Seen too many teams dominate regular seasons for years and not get it done in the playoffs for me to worry about it.

Probably best if I just stay quiet and let things run their course though. I'm not going to convince anyone things aren't forever f***ed at present.

Isles fan coming in peace! This was my first game in person against the oilers in the McDavid era. Just didn’t work out in years passed to get to see him.

Just wanted to say the arena was filled with Oilers jerseys and fans! I was impressed and taken back! You guys travel well and really support your boys.

Good luck the rest of the way and hope you guys stay healthy and finish strong!
Thanks. The fans have a few special places to visit each year (Vegas is big) and the New York pre-Christmas season is a fave. Would be nice to win some of those games!

What a weird regression too. We have been a playoff team 3 straight seasons, and our roster is supposed to be better on paper.
Well, we lost Keith who was a vet and sheltered others. Smith, whose puck handling drove people crazy used that to kill penalties, advance the puck on the power play and move the puck up the ice which made the d look a bit better.

Bouchard has stepped way back, having lost the mojo and mentorship from Keith.
Holloway is not ready.
Yamo and Puljo have taken significant steps backwards.
There really isn’t a player who is exceeding their performance from last year, and most are under performing their contracts, some by a large margin.

The GM gambled on growth, didn’t get it, and here they are.

You have been a solid contributor to this forum and myself, have long approved/supported many of your contributions. And yet during last game you were pissing on posters who said they were simply concerned that the club was continuing to trend in a negative fashion, yet again, (but then you have posted many negative posts about the team in various threads since the NJD game), and now this post and others in the GDT in the same vein. I assume you are as frustrated as many others here. No need to piss on people, greasy bird. We all want the same winning team to succeed.

I’m pissing on the team now like everyone else here?

I said this a couple times in the offseason. We didn’t really improve from last year. We went from Kieth to Kulak. And have more time with Kane (which is now irrelevant since he’s injured).

Honestly, I'm glad that the World Cup, even with all of its issues, is happening right now.

It's given me a chance to step away from the Oil, and all of the frustrations associated with the team, for a few weeks. Hopefully the Oilers will have found their game again before the Christmas break :thumbu:

For me it’s more about the play then anything else, one point in, one point out who cares, but this team is losing ground in terms of quality of play. When they win it’s a squeaker and most often they are outplayed and chase entire games. There is ample evidence to suggest that 20 games in that this could be a long season and the ramifications could be pretty large.

Look a 7-2-1 stretch would change a lot of things, but I’m having a tough time seeing where that will come from. They fell into this funk last year and until Kane and Woodie came along they dead men walking.

Absolutely fair. I just don't think the team is as bad as they've shown lately. Firmly believe they'll go on a heater. I probably am just a fool. They're built to play firewagon hockey. Is it optimal? Not at all. But thats what they do and I've come to accept it
