Hypothetically speaking I'm not a fan of the type of team Dubas is building, I wouldn't have hired him in the first place. It does not mean he is a bad GM, it means I prefer a blue collar, crash the net, forecheck hard, finish your checks, stop on the puck type team 5 on 5, never give up the puck easily type team. I like to apply constant and unrelenting pressure in every facet of the game.

I don't care for teams who setup 2 players in the slot (one in front of the goalie, one in the high slot area). I hate the long drop pass on the PP. Last year we stick checked like our lives depended on it, this year, I don't see the same intensity.

The type of team Dubas built looks already defeated, no chatter on the bench, shoulders slumped. Talking to themselves. I feel truly bad for these guys.

I thought they canceled practice before the NYI game to have a team meeting. I think this problem is more systemic than a players meeting.

Well said

Wow, Randy Carlyle won the cup too. Should Leafs have hung to him too? My point is that just because he won the cup 11 years ago, doesn't mean anything right now.

IMO Carlyle would be a better fit with this roster, he knows who his best offensive guys are and he plays those guys a lot.

What's even more annoying is when healthy we have two duos not just one. Marner Matthew's tavares will can all handle 20-22 a game.

Never even willing to go 1-2-1-2-3 at crucial times . Insists 4th line needs to see the ice .

You see this is part of the Babs problem with the 4th line. He likes no event hockey...he endorses it even. If they go out and don't get scored on...that to him is success. To me that is playing not to lose...you're in a league where other teams actually play to win and you get your self stuffed by them with a play not to lose attitude.

Look at the PP for instance...it's like we are a table hockey team that has to stay in preset lanes and can't even move out of those lanes to do something creative. We have 3 players that touch the puck on the PP...3 vs 4 defenders...the other 2 guys are wasted and never get the puck to make the defense turn around to face the net. This is an obvious problem that the IDIOT coach won't address. If you were a player on this team...would you be frustrated at this gameplan? The game they were 0-6 on the PP and they told them to just wing it for the 7th PP resulted in a goal in short order...why not go back to that? what is so scary about a PP that has no predictable "structure"?

Babcock would rather lose his way than win anyone else's way. That part is not lost on the players.

Shanny is just as stubborn as Babs.

I don't know why you say that. When Shanahan started here, he had no problem getting rid of all the problems and being sure that we rebuild the right way (unlike Burke or Ferguson who wanted immediate results). He brought Babcock in because he had played for Babcock so he thought that was best of what was available.

Since Matthews (along with Nylander and Marner) joined the Leafs, for 3 years, it was going great with a little dip in last years second half (but they still reached 100 points). This is the first major slump Shanahan has experienced with his team, he is not the "Teachers Union" (or whatever they called themselves), he is not Harold Ballard or Burke or Ferguson, he will not take this for much longer, he will make the necessary changes required to get back on the Shanaplan.

This is the time we get to see how good Shanahan can really be, not when everything is going smooth. Let's not forget St. Louis last year, and the Pens when they won their first cup 4 years ago. What's more embarrassing, this kind of slump early in the season or winning almost every game in the season (last years Bolts and Flames) and then getting swept in the first round by a team who struggled to get in the playoffs.

With this defense, it would be another round of "let's try and win 7-6 tonight boys". He got screwed over last time with such a group.

They need to learn defensive structure, as a team. Every star player should be happy to sacrifice points on their hockey cards for points in the standings.

As it were. They still have a very talented young core. They need roll 4 lines as they seemed to 2 years ago. With their cap constraints, it's going to take a miracle now. In the end, outside of a tweak or two, this is the team. Outside of a couple of weeks of adrenaline, changing coaches won't change a teams personnel or give them heart. Unless they bring in an old school SOB coach who will go for the "scared straight" approach. Might work for a year until they tire of it.

I think Dubas tried to make some improvements, for whatever reason he shies away from certain players. Some average skilled guys who know they are average, so, in knowing this, realize they have to stay in the league by fighting for the puck like a dog on a bone and creating havok. The Leafs wanted to come in waves like the 1970s Habs, it's not happening.

There is plenty of hockey to be played. Yes, it's cliche, but remember the Blues of last year! :thumbu:

I just said he is stubborn because I am just theorizing that he is protecting Babs when I feel like Dubas would have fired him in April.

I think if we were to go down that hypothetical rosd, Wilson might be the best fot of the previous Leafs coaches.

He liked fast skilled hockey -he got sunk by lousy goaltending. Didnt like the guy in the slightest, but stylistically seems like hed be a betyer fit

Getting rid of the already existing problems and cleaning house is what most do. Being willing to address the problems you created is much harder to do, and that would be where stubbornness is shown. Dubas should have been allowed to get rid of the problem coach the Leafs had when Dubas became GM.

That might be the truth, but like I said, this is the first time Shanahan is seeing this bad of a slump since we've been making the playoffs so let's sit back and see what he does about it. As I mentioned, in the past (2006 - 2015), we had to deal with Burke or the Teachers Union who were doing it all wrong. Let's give Shanahan a chance to show himself.

If this overall season, and last stretches of games doesn't get him fired idk what will. It's time for Keefe.

Question now becomes will it be official before or after the Marlies game.

Maybe so but like I said, we haven't had that sort of luck with Brian Burke and the Teachers Union (or Ferguson) but Shanahan is a HHOF player who has won multiple (3) Stanley Cups so let's give him a chance to see how he handles his first major slump since Matthews (and company) joined the Leafs.

Yea, I am giving him a chance. I think something needs to be done, he can't just sit around and waste the season.
