Zuccarello Appreciation Thread Part 2

He really wanted to be a Ranger. Not too many people have that kind of dedication because the NHL is a business. Some guys careers only last 3-5 years so its hard to pass up any money from any team in any league when you are not being guaranteed a large contract for years.
 
Hopefully he is turning into a poor mans St. Louis. You can see him getting better every shift. Starting to use his small size to his advantage. Kind of like a short batter with a small strike zone. Hes tough to knock off the puck because hes very hard to line up for a check.

All along most of his fans said he would be able to produce at a .5ppg pace while his detractors said he would not be able to sustain that pace. I do not think most of us ever imagined a near point per game stretch like the last 20 some odd games nor that he would be near the team lead in points at this point in the season.

Since he was benched he has been one of our best forwards.

I said I would eat my (tiny chocolate) hat if he didn't make 60 points this season. Among some other poor projections, this can stick.

MZA is the man.

One of my only knocks on Torts during his tenure here is how he played MZA. AV has put him in a position to succeed and he's absolutely done so.

I did only try to check on my phone, but Zuccarellos 26th year is projected to be better than MSLs 26th. Or at least on par. Needs to maintain the current production thought.
 
He's short but not slight. He can use his size to advantage and can indeed play in the corners. He's very solid on the puck.

Hope he suffers no ill effects from the Cooke body check last night. Can't let that happen.
 
That hit he took from Cooke was literally the only hard hit I can ever remember him taking. He's got serious agility which makes him really hard to play against.
 
I heard he beats Kreider in the weight room, 240 lbs bench press isn't bad ;)
 
Fun fact about Zucc and tonights game. Today marks the three year anniversary of Zucc's NHL debut against Tampa Bay, which also means it's the three year anniversary of his first shootout goal.

The Norwegian Olympic team is really, really high on strength training. Your own weight on the bench is the minimum requirement. And if I remember correctly they like to see 1.5 or 2x your own weight on deadlifts and something like 60 jumping jacks onto 50cm crates within 100 secs

(Going by memory, can try to dig up the article)

Interesting, I did not know this.

But an Olympic fact I do know is that "they" sent a nutritionalist all the way to NY see Z! :nod:
 
He has embraced it himself thought. He tweeted a picture of himself as Frodo a few seasons ago.

A lot of people in Norway are fans of both the books and the movies. The popularized Tolkien lore is pretty much liked by everyone. As such, being refered to as The Hobbit probably sits well with Mats, seeing as it is used in affection. Not disrespectful at all imo.
 
Fun fact: The New York Rangers has never, ever, given up a goal shorthanded with Zuccarello on the PK.
 
I doubt Zuccarello is going to want a terribly lucrative deal as long as we sign him long term and I really have no qualms with doing so.
 
Credit where credit is due. #36 is playing at a higher level then he ever has in a Rangers sweater. Was taking over the game in the offensive zone tonight. Impressive!
