Found a funny picture of a young Zucc (#41) while looking around twitter. Ironically posted by another norwegian olympian (Alex Bonsaksen - whom I presume is wearing the jersey with Alexander #38).

At least he is used to being the shortest guy on the ice.

The goalie on that pick is also going to Sochi, Lars Haugen (Dinamo Minsk) KHL. Number 7 is Brede Czisar, he has played a couple of WC for Team Norway. That team (Vålerenga Blueberries) was sick, Robin Dahlstrøm (Ørebro in SHL and also going to Sochi) wich is Mats stepbrother was also a part of that team. Several other players from the team is playing in the Norwegian Elite League.

I loved those uniforms. Very Rangeresque. No wonder why he ended up were he did:)

Here's another pretty amazing one:

On the lap of his team mate to be, ten years or so before they played together in Modo.

Only saw first period yesterday, but think that line was the best then. Poilot had some really Nice passes and was being agressive. Brass seems to be more in a slump.
I could be ok With this line not producing at all if the other two were, but now it seems it's only Nash that can make anything happen. They should break up this line before it's October all over. Or maybe try Miller for Brassard?

Back on track at last \o/.

Some "worrying" (I'm using the term worrying to reflect individual contribution, the team as a whole are doing great) stats though: Zucc's role on the team is thought to be primarily as a playmaker. In the last 12 games he has 2 assists, including one on the PP. So that leaves one ES assist in 12 games.

Which leaves one wondering if he's maybe better suited paired with a natural goal scorer. Or if he should become the goal scorer himself.

Got a Callahan Jersey. If didn’t I’d be getting a Zuc Jersey. I’m all about effort. Yet you can see that extra bonus in his offence, scoring and passing. He’s close to being a superstar. You can see the talent. Both offensively and defensively. Like Callahan, he hustles all the time and is as smart a player as anyone on this team.

Over the summer the big debate was whether he could score .5ppg (41 points) in the NHL. I look forward to him passing that 41 point mark. He may score 20 goals as well which may be somewhat of a surprise.

According to this article, contract talk is underway between Zuke's agent(s) and the Rangers.

The article is in Norwegian (Google translation here).

Shortly put, Zuke has asked not to be involved, i imagine he wants to consentrate on the games, as well as the upcoming Olympics.

My favorite idiotic translation from a quick glance must be : "A salary of 25 million dollars a year should still be within reach"

Edit : bah, beaten to it :)

His vision is astounding especially considering his height. His hockey IQ is also very high to anticipate where the passing lanes are going to open up. Its easy to see the third forward driving to the net, or the far side D sneaking down when you're watching on TV, but this guy is making passes through the middle of the ice between players on a nightly basis.

I always hoped he could be consistent, but what he is showing us now is something that I never really expected. This guy is playing with so much confidence right now.

Of course Zuccarello did well in the snow. He comes from a country where they do crazy **** like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EF1V8HFfpTE

Thats a lot of vodka, no wonder he's doing stupid things...hopefully still alive ;)

About Zuccs contract, will be interesting to see what happens. Unless he's signed soon some bottom standing teams like Edmonton or Calgary may offer him 6M a year or more. Zucc should wait to feel the market, he's stupid if he accepts a lower salary just because he wants to stay in NYC.

Non NYR fan curious about this guy's development...

Do you think this is a 'flash in the pan' type season?

or has he been slowly developing over the years and is finally breaking out?

What's making him more successful now than ever before?

For the first time he has been given the opportunity to succeed. When under Tortorella he would get less minutes and was paired with the likes of B. Boyle for most of the time.
Yet he produced at .5ppg prior to this season with some bad puck luck.
Remember, he had only played about 1 regular season prior to this year.

The fanbase was quite divided on him prior to the season, and he is one of the players who has caused the most steamed debates on this board. The majority had him pegged for a breakout season while some saw him as too small and a defensive liability.

His defense has been beyond average this year I would argue and he has performed well on 4v5 as well, so he has proved a lot of sceptics wrong.

With the hustle, intensity, and unbelievable vision I believe he will only get better in the future.
His main limitation at this moment I would say is his slap shot. If he could improve that I believe the confidence to shoot more would follow and he would be a top player.

His goal total strikes me as a bit inflated at the moment while his assist total could easily have been much much higher with better finishers.

I haven't seen anything to suggest this is a flash in the pan, he has scored some fortunate goals, but his linemates in Brassard and Pouliot are not world beaters on the best of days. It used to be as Richards went, so did the PP. Now Zuccarello is one of the key guys a man up.
