Spezza is my favourite Sen of all time... kinda salty he picked 19 as the number to wear. It's gonna look weird.

I was never a fan of Zib, so I dont mind that Ottawa gave up a little more value than they recieved.

Brassard will be a very solid 2C for the next 3-4 years at least. Turris still has room for development, and is good defensively.

This gives Brown, White, and maybe even Paul plenty of time to develop and come along at their own pace and not be thrust into positions they arent suited for.

Zib may put it together, but I put the odds against him. He just doesnt play like he gives a ****. All the talent in the world, but he would rather be DJ'ing than grinding in a corner and playing the body.

No grit, no urgency in his game. Hes bigger and stronger than a good amount of players but doesnt know it. He just doesnt have the "it" factor that goal scorers need.

And thats not something you develop or mature into. He hasnt raised his game in the playoffs either. Just another Saturday afternoon to him.

The only way we win this trade is if Brassard's best days are still ahead of him.

He's been trending up past few years putting up career totals and IMO he hasn't even played on very strong offensive teams.

With Stone and Karlsson he could crack 65 points. If he does then we handily win this trade.

If he remains 50-55 point player. Then we got owned cause that's essentially Zib but he's 5 years younger and bigger presence.

If he scores 60 points then we win now but could lose long term which is essentially the best case hope out of all the option and even realistic, imo.

It's not just about points. Zibby can put up pts and looking completely invisible. A huge reason why our team was terrible last year was cause that 2nd line wasn't working.

You can't have zibby Ryan and Hoffman in your top 6 and expect to win cause for one zibby doesn't have the vision or play making ability to get those guys the puck. It's not real surprise that Ryan Hoffman and stone played their best with turris as their center

Hell I wouldn't be surprised if management believe that pageau is a better player than zibby

I like this move for many reasons. Zibby was okay not a fav of mine and did not care for his style but wish him all the best in NY.

I like that Dorion had this deal on his brain and was not gun shy to make it, he gave up a 2nd rounder who cares, sometimes you got to make some gambles.

Also sends a message to the team that we will not be happy with the status quo even with younger players and we are not afraid to deal them if we don't see them fitting in anymore.

I think between coaching changes Bassard, Kelly and prospects we should be good to go, maybe a depth UFA signing would be okay as well.

Hey guys. Rangers fan coming to say that Brassard was my favorite skater on the team and I'm sad to see him go. You guys will love him. He plays with passion, has a great slapper that he uses like once a month and always scores with. And if you make it to the playoffs, I'm sure he'll be your best forward. I'm looking forward to seeing what he and Karlsson can do together, especially on the PP. Take care of him for us.

I'm really looking forward to seeing what our power play looks like this year.

Guy Boucher is known for being a PP guy, plus Brassard now as a playmaking lefty shot center, plus all of our regular weapons... it might be really, really good.

How many games did we lose last year because our power play sucked? I mean not just missing out on scoring goals... every bad powerplay looked like it sucked the life out of the team last year. If special teams can get turned around this season under Bouch & Crow, you have to imagine that this team can finally start playing like they have some confidence to close out games.

I barely saw anything resembling confidence from this team last year. I'm hoping we can change that this year, and I hope Brassard is a big part of that.

Our power play was literally so bad and such a momentum killer that I remember wishing that we could decline it..

That to me was the surest sign that something was really, really wrong behind the bench.

Exactly! I agree. All of a sudden a bunch of players can't just become bad at PP, just like that. For starters, Erik is not used proper on PP.

Funny thing....I read that exact same thing on the Rangers boards the last few years. Oh, and 'flowerplay'....that was golden.

Fans. :dunno:

Rangers fans have been extremely vocal that they lost their best PP guy, and that Brassard and Karlsson on the PP would be lethal.

Just saying...they've been equally vocal on their own boards over the last few years (through both Torts and Vigneault) how much their PP sucks.

Sure, they can be as vocal as they want. But statistically, under the mental midget that was Dave Cameron, our special teams, including the PP, were amongst the league worst.

As Bonk mentioned, even a 5% improvement would make the Sens a much better hockey team.

Cameron was the worst.

Their were PP has sucked, but they also had among the least PP's in the league in general. They were 14th in % last season (the Sens were 26th).

They have been vocal that Brassard was their best weapon on the PP. We had an awful PP, but I'm sure Karlsson would help any PP.

Yes, but what I'm saying is.......ALL fans ***** and moan about their teams PP. Even when it's statistically at or near the top of the league. Miss one great opportunity and fans go bonkers.

Brassard, Yandle, and Zuccarello were literally the only players on our team who knew what the hell a powerplay even was. Brassard is known to sometimes pass up a good scoring chance for a pass instead, but since you guys have a lot of shooters on your team, it shouldn't be as much of a problem. You guys are getting a great player who's been very underrated over the past two seasons because he didn't live up to the expectations of a high pick early in his career.

Ok, take this with the usual "hearing it from a friend" business, but apparently, Mika's GF was moving to NYC to pursue something to do with fashion school or something...

So it may have been the Sens doing him a solid...

Again just something I heard. Not to be spread like gospel but from a usual source of mine who fills me in on Sens news.

I have a source whos good friends with Mika (through soccer) and he told me that Mika was blindsided by it and was furious. He shut off his phone for almost the entire day cause he was so upset. I dont think the sens did him a solid in any way shape or form.

He said on the radio his phone ran out of batteries when Dorion called, and when he got it charged back up, he called back Dorion. Seemed like an odd story to be honest, but he also said it came out of nowhere, so I very much doubt the org was doing him a solid.

It seems fairly obvious that he didn't know this was coming, he stayed the summer in Ottawa supposedly to get in shape for the coming season & he just bought a house in town. Maybe he should have asked PD if buying a house was a good idea? :sarcasm:

I wasn't the biggest Zibby supporter but I was coming around to him and wanted a bit more time to see if he could put it all together. I guess he kinda grew on me. People loved Fisher and I always stood by the notion that Zibby was a Fisher lite but with better hands.
