Zach Ostapchuk is a nothing player. A late 2nd in this weak f***ing 2025 draft is nothing. Noah Gregor was acquired specifically to kick me in the 'nads over and over until the end of time. There aren't words for how much I hate this and I would have been okay trading Zetterlund if the return was something decent. We couldn't get a f***ing 1st and gave up a f***ing 4th on top of that? This single trade is undoing all the good will Grier built up this year.

I'm not a fan of the ignore button, and will generally only use it on the few true psychopaths. However, if the cadre of Grier defenders come out and start spinning this trade as good, I might not be able to resist.

Grier already has a history of getting subpar values on trade. Hell, looking at what other players fetched, it seems like he sold Granlund, Ceci, and Walman for too less...
It's definitely not good value but time will tell more, hopefully. I don't like it but, no matter how diehard of a fan I am, I'm kind of over getting mad over things like this, especially as I have absolute zero control over such issues. I have other things worth worrying about.

I'm pretty sure you don't have Nads.... But im curious why you have such strong feelings about Gregor? I wasn't around for those years much and didn't experience whatever animosity you hold for him lol.

It doesn't make sense to get mad in general, to let frustration at a deal like this infect your life (obviously, that's true for any sports). But if you can't get mad at the guy who made this move...what is holding him accountable?

I was all for trading Zetterlund but was expecting it to be in a package for a young D like Clarke/Nemec/Byram or maybe someone like Peterka.

I can’t help but feel really disappointed with this return though….really would have though Zetterlund would have been a hot commodity for contenders considering his low cap hit and RFA status

How is a 2nd decent value for a 25 year old forward scoring at a top 6 rate for 2 years straight?
Is 50 points really "top 6 scoing" in today's scoring environment

I like Zetterlund a lot and think he's useful but on a good team he's a 3rd line scorer that can fill in higher in the lineup in case of injury

I wanted to keep him, but I can understand Mike being apprehensive if he was asking for like $7M a season

Toronto fans are screaming, no doubt.

Noah Gregor is the reason we have Will Smith instead of Bedard/Fantilli/Carlsson.

Yeah, I don't know. Time will tell, as I said. Sad to see Zetterlund go, that's for sure. It's been a miserable season as it is and he was one of the brighter spots and in my mind a part of the core going forward for sure.

Did Jerry Reinsdorf or Dan Snyder buy the sharks while I was working? It’s ok to overpay Zetts a little bit after his next contract. We have the cap space and Vlasic is coming off the books within a year. I was giving Grier major props but He rushed this trade and f***ed up horribly.

Ostapchuk is not a nothing player. He's going to have a long career as the type of bottom six forward you can win with.

We all love Zetts but he's just not that valuable as a pending arb eligible RFA. His PDO is on the moon this year and the Sharks clearly made the determination that cashing in now would yield a better return than signing him to a 4M+ AAV deal and trading him down the line. Either way he's a bit too old to be a long term piece here especially with Graf proving he's a NHLer and Chernyshov looking like he'll be a better version of Zetterlund relatively soon.

Also, we are just SO far away from competing still (years) that it's tough to get mad about things like this because in the long term its really tough to predict what the effects would be anyway. Zetterlund was young enough that he could very well have been still a good player during our future window, so my only explanation there is he wanted out for some reason and they took what they could get for him. I don't like it, but sometimes that's the way shit goes and you just have to role with it. It sucks, but every team deals with it from time to time. If he did something like this when we were entering our window, yah i'd face palm, but where we are now? Eh.

I wonder if this is a combo of not wanting to pay zetterlund and opening a roster spot for a Musty/Graf/Halts for next year?

Of course, we could also turn around and flip some of these picks to move up in the draft as well.

I also wonder if this board loves zetts more than the regular fan/Gms in the league. wouldnt be the first time thats happened.
