He's Chara 2 years ago so far. Let's face it he had his detractors when he was playing like the HOF he will be. Carlo is getting serious tutelage playing with him he has to.

He's earned every penny 3 games in. Carlo is making his job easier which is important. It has a chance to be one of best if not best shutdown pairing in the game

Yet every mistake we will hear The D is horrible

He's been good, not great. Never going to return to the form of 3-4 years ago, which is OK if they manage his minutes and give him an adequate partner that can cover some of his deficiencies. If Carlo can be THAT guy it would be huge for the B's. Chara looks confident playing with Carlo, so that's something.

Krug doesn't look like Krug. I will chalk that up to the injury and him having to play himself into game shape. He will be fine, even if he doesn't look great now. The key is the young guys continuing to play well, which takes the pressure off the B's to make an urgent deal with no leverage. Have to think the prices on guys like Fowler and Trouba will come down as those situations drag on.

Seeing Chara mentor the new generation is what I want to see at this stage of his career. When he's next to #86 it just feels redundant, but when he's next to Carlo it all makes sense.

I think a lot of Chara's issue last year came with his management. If you keep his ice time reasonable, and keep him of the friggen PP, I think he could have a really good year and do a lot to mentor this young D.

something I`ve seen so far very early this year is I find Carlo, with the puck on his stick, makes far less errors with the puck than when Trotman was playing alongside of Z. Also can`t hurt that the reach and solid mobility of Carlo appears to have Z cover less for his partner which is a good thing

Having a partner you can trust just allows Z to relax a bit and not feel like he needs to carry everything on that pairing. Incredibly impressed so far with Carlo. He`ll have his rookie moments but seems to be a kid who forgets those immediately

Hands down the best Bruin skater last night. Glad to see the old man having a good start.

As I said in my GDT post, I think Chara knows he needs to be more "obvious" as captain. The team is much younger now and the kids will be looking to him for leadership.

Who knows, the kids may even give him a new lease on hockey life, so to speak :dunno:

And controlling his minutes seems to be helping too. I love the Z I've seen the past two games.

Not sure how many of you had the "pleasure" of watching last night's game vs. Florida via the Panthers broadcast. So I figured I'd post this here.

So Denis Potvin (FLA color commentator, and HOF D-man) said he had a chat with Big Z earlier that day and asked Chara about when if he's planning to play next season and finish out his two-year deal.

He said Chara's response was "absolutely".

He also mentioned that Chara said he'd be open at the conclusion of his two-year deal to sign one-year contracts moving forward and keep playing.

I don't know if you want to put much stock in this but at face value sure doesn't appear like Zdeno Chara is intent on giving up being a pro hockey player anytime soon.

He basically went from having two knees to one and a half.

It's the kind of thing that takes a ton of time to build up strength in what you have left.

I've said this many times before here, all of the past two years have been a comeback for him.

Question is, do you re-sign him when his contract is up? Guess we'll cross that bridge later

Depends on cost and perceived role. Two years is also a long time. Situations can change. Not something I think much about until it gets closer

Next year his cap hit is down to 4M which (if he keeps playing like he is this year) is fair value. If he is still in shape and agrees to sign for something like 3M for another year after that, why not? He could probably still be effective in a diminished role, especially on the PK. It's too early to think about that anyway.

With zero hesitation, the answer is definitely, "No."

In the months of January, February and March of 2017, the reasons for this will be eminently clear.

Have to agree with you here. I really can't believe people are talking about extending him in 2 years. He'd be 42 at the end of it and there's a good chance he'll have more injuries by then.

I just hope he can keep this up for most of the year but I won't hold my breath. However, I'm happy for him right now.

He's playing the best hockey he has in a couple of years, whose to say he won't be a valuable depth D in a couple of years, he is a workout legend. If he can still be a valuable contributor I would love to keep him on 1 year contracts in a depth role. Of course we are going to need someone to step up on the left in the next year or two.

Krug-Carlo
O'Gara/Zboril-McAvoy
Chara-Chiller

Something along the lines of that, break one of the guys on the second pair in next year and the other the year after.

Hopefully Zboril and O'Gara are figting for Liles spot next year.

I cant see resigning or extending Chara. That said, he has impressed me so far this year, i just can't justify him on this roster at 41-42.

I look at this two ways...

1. Is he playing "good" because most of us expected him to be absolute dog **** and good, really isn't that good in comparison to other #1-2 d-men?
2. Is he legitimately playing good as a legit #1-2 d-man?

I don't know if that even makes sense to be honest, haha.

I could see re-signing him for a lot less money at the end of this contract. He could be a stablizing influence for the younger defensemen for a couple of seasons. I'm glad to see hints of the old Chara, as opposed to the more expensive Hal Gill I saw in him last season.
