An eye ball test is only applicable if you watch every draft pick on every team, otherwise it’s just bias if you’re watching one team and ignoring all statistics to the contrary.

dont think we're on the same page here. Eye balling the list of teams and their drafts, i cant for the life of me find one that did worse.. maybe im wrong, i hope i am. But, if i was wrong, we wouldnt be in the position we're in.

Either way, argument aside, the organization pre-yzerman really fcked up drafting. Plain and simple.

Bertuzzi looked good in the playoffs on the stat sheet but was a mess defensively.
Vrana is a locker room problem.
Zadina didn't ever develop.
Mantha is lazy.
Cholowski was always a mistake.

Yes like them. All those picks and roster players so far have amounted to zero. Add Zadina to list. Blame Holland or blame Yzerman regardless the Detroit Red Wings have little to nothing to show for basically half a decade of drafting...

So Holland's tenure from 1997 to 2004 was pretty solid. After that (2005 to 2018) it's like they forgot how to scout and only picked 4 middle-6 guys (Bertuzzi, Tatar, Nyquist, AA) an unmotivated 2nd line winger (Mantha) a middle pair defenseman (Hronek) a top line center (Larkin) and a bunch of bottom 6 talent.

13 years of absolute trash from Holland. I'd say the blame is very easily dropped at Holland's feet for not making radical changes to the scouting staff in 2008 when it was abundantly clear our prospect pool was empty. We're lucky Detroit didn't pick Sonny Milano instead of Larkin or we'd really be f***ed.

That interview feels like a guy who was being asked "how does it feel that people don't think you are ready to live your dream" and then using Google translate to figure out the right things to say. There's a lot that gets misconstrued when you are speaking in a second language and words aren't translated perfectly.
