then don't leak it to weekes and have in announced during the jackets draft pick segment
I see absolutely zero reason for the player to leak it to Weekes unless he had a specific team or teams he wanted to force himself to, which it sounds like he doesnt

Maybe Columbus could've tried harder to actually be a successful team and this wouldn't have been an issue.

How much of this is on the team for not putting out a winning product at all?

And where has it been confirmed that he demanded a trade? The only thing I have read is that he's said he won't be a Blue Jacket once his contract expires. Not that he's demanding a trade right here, right now.
You're so right man, they should have just resurrected the body of Gaudreau and forced him to play for them.

Clown ass take.

You can be happy with your current job but also not want to commit to staying there past 2 years …
And that’s fine, but Columbus isn’t close to winning and it wouldn’t make sense for them to try to force a chance in the next two years just for him.

They should’ve thought about that possibility when they agreed to this contract with Werenski then? I won’t even go into the “should’ve built a better team” stuff because they’ve gotten so unlucky with things no one could possibly plan for, but there is always a risk that your plan just doesn’t work out
Are you kidding? It’s basically Tampa bay and Toronto.
Is this actually reported? IIRC from latest 32T podcast Friedman said it was a “bring me something if you have a deal and I’ll make a decision then”

If you're married and your wife says "I plan on leaving you in two years", do you really wanna stay in that marriage?

Weird reframe, one is a lifetime commitment and the other is a contract with an expiration date?

I don't blame Columbus at all for wanting to trade him, which is the point I think you're trying to make. Werenski, however, shouldn't be vilified for wanting Columbus to honor the contract commitments that they agreed to. Using your analogy, I would expect my wife to continue to love, honor, and cherish me, for better or for worse...and all that

But what if Werenski is poly?

So if Werenski only wants to go to a good team, and he already turned down dallas, that just leaves Florida and Tampa. No one else is good or have the assets in the east.

Point is why stick with someone who clearly doesn’t want to be with you.

Yeah, with the same analogy the whole draft system is pretty much a forced marriage for someone who’s just turned 18.

Werenski would be the new Hedman. Kucherov just won a Hart Trophy. Vasy just won a vezina.

& they went nowhere, like 4x in a row

Kucherov is 33y, Vasy 32y, they don’t have much of a defense and Werenski trade would destroy rest of the quality depth

Tampa is not some contender, their window was already

You can't trade a Norris winning defenceman and get wingers in return. Knies, Cowan and crappy picks? Would be a horrible return. But this is Waddell we're talking about here.

Yeah it’s about fold the franchise moment if they get a complimentary winger as the top asset back

You don’t sell that to fan base or the players

Separate to the discussion on Werenski himself, it would be very Leafs-y to finally get the elite puck-moving 1D they were crying out for during the core four era like 5 years too late

but not good, he'd just be in the same spot he was in columbus. 88-95 point team
They won their division just last year and took Panthers to seven games. So the question is if he things McKenna and himself can replace what Marner brought.

CBJ should just stand put. If Werenski wants to do what’s best for him, CBJ should also attempt to do what’s best for them. His NMC turns into a 10 team NTC next summer. Why handicap yourself and meet Werenski’s unreasonable demands forcing a trade to a single team? He can sit out if he wants to or put on his big boy pants and carry his team like a leader is supposed to do.
