Rumor: Zach Werenski rejected trade to Dallas with NMC

Yeah, f*** Werenski for (checking notes for one second).....wanting to fulfil the terms of his contract?
Its not like he already walked. Werenski is a rumour right now. Columbus can still keep him and Werenski would play. Lets not label Werenski based on Media sources. The media's job is to start rumours to get followers.

People are really smarting and clevering here. If you tell a team you are out the door in two seasons when your contract ends you are defacto asking for a trade. Only an idiot wouldn't know that, any of this AKSHULLY stuff being pushed is nonsense.
Kudos to him for being upfront about it.

Better than telling them to shove it in 2 years while they're left with nothing.

That Dallas D would have been frickin ridiculous, if they didn't have to trade a roster D of course.

Lindell - Heiskanen
Harley - Werenski
Bischel - Myers

That's nice, but it's still a defacto trade demand.

And his insistence of only agreeing to go to two teams (and blocking one where the Jackets would at least get something of value) essentially destroyed any value he had and CBJ have to settle for the Hasek Special we did decades back.

Dallas doesn't have the trade pieces to add Werenski and keep Harley without screwing up their forward core, if they could even pull that off hypothetically.

Even if hypothetically they could trade Robertson for Werenski, their forward group would be top heavy and overall fairly weak. Not good enough for a deep playoff run.

Since CBJ is losing Werenski, I wish they could figure a 3-way trade and get Nikishin and whatever else to CBJ. Werenski to Tor and Knies to Canes.

I kind of suspect but Toronto is just a leverage play here but if it's a serious option, Columbus needs to go all in on making that happen. They have by far the best package to offer

...you think you're gonna pay for a haul and put Werenski on the 2nd pairing?

Didn't he literally lead defenseman in TOI last year...

Just speculation but what else would Jackets get if they want roster players? Else I have no idea..
Columbus would want from Dallas one of Harley, Rantanen, Hintz, Johnston, Robertson in a Werenski deal.

Dallas is in no position to weaken their forward group. Even if (hypothetically) they moved Robertson for Werenski, they'd probably have to look at moving Harley or Lindell or Oettinger to bring in a forward.

Overall I think there were only ever 2 real options for Dallas... Harley (easy) or Robertson (complicated for Dallas and we have no evidence that Columbus was interested in doing this).

Moser only makes 6.75m until 2034. He led the league in 5v5 GA/60 and 5v5 xGF%, statistically making him the best 5v5 defenseman in the league last year.

Knies is not a better trade chip
So why would Tampa wanna trade him then?

Not at all. It's letting management know that at the end of the contract, right now he's planning on moving on. He never made/demanded a trade.

If management/CBJ doesn't want those two contracted years of service they can look into trading him at some point. That same management is the one who gave him the NMC, which he's exercising to not have to go to somewhere he doesn't want to play in.

Now if he's nice he'll let them know a few places that he wouldn't mind playing in, just to reduce negotiation time with places he doesn't want to go to. But the trade is on them. Telling the team that at the end of the contract he's moving on is neither de factor nor de jure a trade demand, it's just letting them know that in two years they will need to make other arrangements to cover his position.

Why would the Lightning want to trade for the Norris Trophy winner?
You literally just said Moser was statistically the best 5v5 defensemen in the league who's on a sweetheart contract. Why are you trading that for 2 years of Werenski?
