The other factor in whether Benson goes to Wenatchee could be whether the Sabres are competitive or not. If the Sabres are 1-8 after 9 games they may take into consideration that it's a pointless year to burn a year of his ELC. Not that they should take that into consideration, but they might.

If they're going to give up after 9 games, they should all be fired. Also 1-8 seems unlikely to me.

If it’s up to Granato he ain’t going back

He lays out all the reasons you would send a player back…and says Benson has checked those boxes already.

I really appreciate how this answer isnt just “he’s doing well and deserves this opportunity“. He goes right into defensive responsibilities and physicality to stand up to the league and is like…that’s why you send guys back. They aren’t ready for those things. We know the skill but guys usually aren’t ready for those things. He’s been doing it at a high level from camp to preseason to real games.

I'm happily surprised that he's (likely) making the team. I'll hope/assume that a move will be made with a goalie or Olofsson to keep him and Quinn in the starting line-up after December. Three lines with no glaring holes...if everyone gets going the way they should.

He was getting pushed off pucks more today and was less around the puck. Still looked like he belongs but going back down after 9 remains a possibility.

Yeah. Strong group of guys in Tampa’s lineup, not super surprising.

It didn't help his was on the third line. In pre-season he was given more of an opportunity. Would like to see Benson with Thompson, Cozens or Mitts.

Could we see Savoie being given 9 after his and allowing him to rest/watch?
The issue with keeping both Savoie and Benson is one of roster space. Savoie being on IR means he's not counting towards the 23, so when he's activated, if the Sabres want to get him into games, they gotta find room somewhere, whether that is sending someone down to Rochester (or in the case of Benson, juniors) including waivers if needed, putting someone else on IR, or making a trade to move a body out.

They can probably get away with a few game conditioning stint in Rochester for Savoie and see how that goes as well. It's a kick of the can, but could provide valuable time.

My thought was, as long as Savoie was healthy of course, that they might sprinkle both into the lineup but not in the same game. This could keep them both fresh and not sitting around long while both guys get ice time and ideally help each other off the ice.
