That's why I don't read him. That makes no sense. Once Lindgren is back, there's no reason to carry 8 dmen and continue to use LTIR. Mancini is waiver exempt and will almost certainly be sent down. The only other option is to send down one of our exempt forwards (Cuylle, Rempe, Edstrom), but then we'd have no spare forwards until Vesey comes back.
This is how I see it going. I may catch some flack here, but I see Lindgren being traded this off season, and probably not the TDL unless we get a GREAT offer for him. Jones is a keeper, and Mancini as insurance makes it so we don't need to shop for a D at the TDL. If we deal Lindgren we are an injury away from Ruh or Mackey or another AHL level D man. That would be BAD in the post season...
In the same way, I think Berard and Othmann are forward insurance against having to make a TDL deal for forward help, assuming Chytil stays ambulatory.
I think if we make a TDL deal at all it's from a position of STRENGTH.

Lindgren as insurance? I buy it. Othmann and Berard as forward depth? Ok. But I would not call them insurance. Brodzinski is more of the insurance player as he can play center, play on the PP if needed, is pretty versatile but at a low level of quality. The youngins... unless they undergo some substantial development in Hartford, are still liabilities with promise.

Fair enough, but I still think if we are healthy at the trade deadline we won’t be dealing to plug a hole, just upgrade if anything.

We're running short on draft picks to trade for rentals in any case. Over the next 3 drafts, we only have 2 picks (2026 3rd and 2027 3rd) in rounds 2 through 4.

I don't think Drury will trade 1sts, but if he does, it better be for a player who will be around a while.

Sure. But Drury has managed to hit on nhl players in rounds 5-7. So I’m ok with this.

We've had some successes and may have more yet, but a team built with those players isn't winning anything. The odds of getting top of the lineup players in those rounds is very slim.

Not having those picks puts that much more pressure on the team to hit with the picks they do have.

A team with those players could absolutely win a cup so long as you aren’t asking them to be the core of your offense.
but hitting on those, allows a good team to extend its window significantly.

I hope Jones stays in the line up. Hes been nothing but professional and has exceeded expectations. He plays incredibly smart. I think people overvalue pure defensive defensemen. If you're D is creating opportunities on offense and controlling the puck, thats essentially playing your role well as it keeps opponents D from scoring.
Fox isnt big but plays smart. Jones plays a similar game and I feel like can continue to improve with more ice time and experience. Miller has all the tools but plays a high risk game. Trouba has been "fine" this year for the most part.... But my god, PLEASE get rid of Lindgren. Trade him, he does have value, but this Rangers team plays best when they have the puck. They have so much talent and they need to go all in on their offensive capabilities.

Jones is playing better than Fox yet we're throwing Lindgren and Trouba out there for offensive zone starts. This kid needs to stay in the lineup. Even if he has 1 game amd gets bullied let him bounce back. If we have to suffer through Miller, Trouba, Fox, Lindgren all having absolute stinkers shouldn't Jones get the same grace?

The play where he scored, he skated the puck out of our zone while shrugging 2 defenders then makes a pass to suck in a 3rd defender. Then keeps going forward and a lucky bounce leads to Jones having the puck with an open shooting lane.

No other dman on our roster can do what Jones did on that play. Well Miller could if he wasn't so lost mentally.

A lucky bounce -- that's what Kakko's assists are called these days
Also Sam yesterday: "Jones, unassisted". The guy can't get a break.

That we sent down Mancini should be a small token of confidence in his direction.

Still don't think he turns into Torey Krug, but we should be the team bold enough (Given our puck moving deficiencies oin the back end) to play a guy this size as a 4/5

Look we’re not putting together a video game team here either. The Rangers targeted Nemeth (and that story broke a few days before free agency) for a reason. Jones is a more skilled player than Nemeth sure. So what? Nemeth has a track record and size. Jones doesn’t have either of those things. Fox runs the power play. Norris Trophy winner at 23–you play that guy as much as you can. If there’s a second smaller D it’s most likely Lundkvist but he’s getting the power play leftovers.
Exactly what is your expertise on Patrik Nemeth other than a couple of Avs fans saying he had a bad playoffs and watching a few playoff games?

He will be extremely easily tradeable with one year left at 2.5M. Worse defenseman were just traded at this deadline. Jordie Benn for a 6. Gudbranson for a 7. Hutton for a 5. Gustafsson for a 7. He just got traded for a 4 himself. Coburn for a 7.
LMAO

Lindgren and more so Tuba have defensive lapses many times a game. The difference is they're "proven" and look/play the part if you get what I mean. They encapsulate what you'd think of as a defenseman from past eras. Rugged, physical. That's why Jones gets the short end of the stick. If he makes a defensive mistake it's, well look at the small skill guy on D he can't play defense... meanwhile the meat and potatoes defender gets beat multiple times a game and consistently gets rolled out like it's no big deal. The difference is, they stink with the puck. If they're making the same amount of defensive mistakes a game I'll take the guy that can actually make plays with the puck.

I like the kid, but wut
You don't see it? The smooth silky strides? The way his locks flow in the wind? The unconventional routes he skates, working the geometry of the shortest path to the front of the net with his high hockey IQ head, as he moves around opponents? He's going to revolutionize the game from the back line.
