(You've already have made up your mind about) Zack Bogosian

He had a really poor first half of the game, including two penalties, one of which, led to a goal. He had a better second half of the game, as did most of the team.

There are people who were shitting on Bogo before the game too. He’s just that type of player. A lot of people were doing the same with Vesey.

So yeah, Bogosian deserved criticism in the first half last night. Settled down in the second half, but overall we just still need better than him. That said, it’s one game, with a new team, which no sort of exhibition schedule this year for new players to settle in a bit more

I agree with you that he looked better in the second half, but I think the main reason is that he was barely played. How many shifts did he have in the third? 1?

I disagree. I think we have a deep team. Once things get rolling, Bogosian is our 7th-8th best Dman. Robertson, Boyd and Engvall can all slot into the lineup relatively seamlessly.

Our third liners have the ability to put up ~40 points in a full season. Not to mention Simmonds and Spezza can rack up a few points themselves. I personally don't think scoring depth is an issue.
it's only 1 game but our 3rd line couldn't even get out of our end and imo they don't have 40 pt potential as a line since none of them can drive the play

the only hope i see for offense outside of our top 2 lines is if Robertson is ready but hopefully your right since we do need some offense outside on our lower lines

He's not alone, but he was not great. Both penalties were avoidable and not high danger chances.
Rielly was brutal defensively, and Muzzin was slower than he's ever looked.
FWIW, I thought it was a very sloppy game from both teams. Players definitely aren't in game shape and it's going to take a while for the play to come to a level we're accustomed to.
I agree 100% with this, its actually my take on the defence last night as well.

I would just add that in the 1st he made a good play coming back to break up I think a 2 on 1 or a break away and didn't look slow doing it.

Was it not Bogosian who took a bad pinch leaving Tavares back to defend a streaking Anderson?

I didn't watch the replay. I just know that there were too many breakaways/odd man rushes to count. Next game I'll bring a calculator so I can show Keefe.

Bogosian isnt the fastest skater, so a he should have recognized the threat with 2 streaking Habs and backed up instead of the low percentage pinch. Thats defence 101, especially in a tied game.

Lucky Tavares recognized that and started skating hard even before Bogo lost the pinch or it wouldve been a clear 2-on-1

Bogosian is a 3rd pairing Dman and #6 on the depth chart, perhaps some people have set their expectations too high.

He role is to replace Cody CeCi and he likely will be used in more physical games while I expect we're going to see Lehtonen inserted in his spot when playing against other style teams.

Let’s not forget, he played a key role for a stacked Cup winning team that leaned heavily on its defence. I think the first week of the regular season should be a write-off for a veteran like him. If he is not looking good by February I think you start to consider your options at that point, but for now there’s no need to over react.

no kidding, especially when the contingency plans are in the press box

I liked him on Tampa in the playoffs, he looked bad last night. 2 bad penalties, slow to move the puck, slow with his skating.. but it was the first game.

I think fans are frustrated having slick skating puck movers knocking at the door in Sandin, Liljegren and Lehtonen and seeing bogo flubbing passes.

It's 1 game, let's get ready for the Sens tomorrow.

Bogo did not have his best night ... let's leave it at that ... but he is a vet with defensive game, toughness and nastiness and there will be games where he helps us out a lot

Bogosian definitely didn’t have a very strong game. It’s only one game and I fully expect him to get better. Not to mention Bogo mainly practiced with Lehtonen during the two week training camp and is now playing with Dermott.

I wouldn’t say that was a bad pinch. Tavares was in supporting position allowing him to make that play. Which is pretty standard.

JT just didn’t play Anderson that well and got beat by his speed .
JT got beat because he didn't engage him physically and instead tried to stick check .

as far as the pinch goes , i have no idea what Bogo was trying to do , he had zero chance of getting the puck and he didn't take out the habs player preventing him from moving the puck so basically he just put himself in a bad position

I like the idea of have him in the lineup, but I want to see him play meaner. As for what else we saw last night, its only one game, I'm not too worried.

Regardless of the eye test for Bogo, he is what we need. Physical defenseman who can stop the cycle, clear the net and chop the puck into bits.

You cannot win without that type of player, with him and Muzz we should be set. Is he better than Sandin, not in skill, but he makes the team more complete.
Agreed.

Some don't like that type of player though. They will watch his every move and comment on here when he messes up and ignore his good plays. Happens every year.

 No, Keefe has been looking for a high fwd on those half wall plays so the d can pinch when they’ve got support. Bogosian had support, Tavares just couldn’t contain Anderson.

Bogosian had a rough night, along with most of the defense... but pointing fingers at stuff that isn’t his fault is silly.

I am not holding his first game against him. The team played like trash for most of that game and were lucky the pp came through. They’ve got a lot of stuff to work on in a short amount of time or it’s going to be a really bad season

It's too bad he can't stop the cycle or clear the net when he's in the penalty box.

I think he is too slow- his penalties were not good. BUT, he made several strong defensive plays to poke the puck into the corner/stop the cycle. The biggest problem with Bogo is....... lehtonen sits and i think thats what most folks are upset about.

Anyone who has played D competitively knows that if the player has possession on the half wall 9/10 times you are beat if you pinch. Maybe you do it if you are down and trying to keep offensive zone time, but in a tied game that isnt a necessary risk.

If it's a loose puck on the half wall the battle becomes closer to 50/50, in which case a proper team structure with a high C can cover for the pinch. But Bogos decision here wasnt well timed as it was an easy out to the streaking winger for the Habs player.
