Eakins has 27 pts in 41 games against west he has 32 points in 31 games against east Krueger had 45 points in 48 against west .

It's quite amazing how bad the east is this year, and how well the Oilers match up against them.

I was worried when Mact hired him about the negative effect of so much turnover in the coach ranks, not to mention Mact's suspect ability to identify coaching talent given his own mediocre ability; but If Eakins had a western conference only schedule, his poorly coached team would have set new NHL records for futility

Never expected him to bomb this badly, nor could anyone foresee Eakins turning into such a ridiculous fop

Now it appears our best player is getting frustrated with his antics. How does the entire hockey world except our management see this is a ticking time bomb?

Hall was that close to going Patrick Roy on Eakins and I wish he would have.

Eakins is out of his depth and taking the team down with him. He has to be done at the end of this season. MacT should jump in now for the last 10 games.

I think that is the most damning. We're a more talented team this season, yet we flounder against the west. Last season, Kruegar with a lesser team had some pretty positive results against a tough western conference.

One could also argue that MacT added players that should do well in the west. Gazdic, Perron, Ference, Hendricks and of course our goalies. There is also Marincin

There is literally not one aspect of coaching or this team's performance that you could look at and say, 'Eakins is pretty good at this one thing'. They suck at everything and have gotten noticeably worse at everything.

But then again, that's true for the entire franchise so he fits right in.

Agreed, we're a better team than last season, yet our results across the board are horrible. Worse ES GF, worse ES GA, worse PP, worse PK. I mean through and through, this team has sucked.

Of course we see 'spurts' of ability, Scrivens standing on his head after the TDD had us at a 7-2-2 record at one point, effort comes and goes a little more frequently, but for a team that has been so god damn horrible for the past half decade, it's just not good enough.

We are on the 4th coach in the last 5 years. My previous position was that regardless of how poorly the team played under Eakins and no matter what coaching gaffes were made, the Oilers simply HAD to keep Eakins in place to finally get some consistency of system and style. The disgrace we witnessed last night has shaken even that lowly standard. Throwing a hissy fit over a thrown water bottle? Preening your hair like they just dumped 5 gallons of Gatorade on you? Publicly engaging in a tongue lashing with a young and emotional star player? All while your team is disintegrating in front of you, at the hands of a lottery pick team? None of us are in the dressing room, but if what we can see is a small sample of Eakins behind closed doors, then we are in a massive quagmire. I just pray that short-sighted personality based roster moves like the Souray debacle don't happen as a result.

And then benching him for a mistake and at the start of the third as well and it was not enough water to drown a fly. Eakins thinks its all about him he says he shows no emotion because the cameras are on him. Gets a little wet and **** the emotions he goes on tilt:help:

Hope you guys don't mind an outside chiming in, but after watching the video of Eakins freak out over a little water, I can honestly say I have never seen a more juvenile display from an NHL head coach.

I've seen coaches embarrass themselves and look stupid and petty, but usually it has to do with hockey or something actually worthy of being angry over.

Also, he should get a haircut. Every time he flips his hair he looks like kid who won a contest to be an NHL coach for a day.

If MacT is too blind to see it, perhaps the fans can get rid of Eakins by meeting him in the parking lot.

I'm glad Eakins let hall have it. You can't have players acting like babies and throwing a hissy fit. I actually have more respect for Eakins after this.

Eakins as coach makes me long for Ralph Krueger...and he was in way over his head
I guess that means Dallas is at the bottom of the ocean

MacT bought into the "Toronto-hype" of this guy and we are paying a dear price....

send him and his "type" of players back to the Marlies where he belongs

too bad we are stuck with him for at least another year...thus more of the same next year

Eakins won't be fired this year or next, for the following reasons:
1. MacT wants to show consistency
2. He's MacTs guy - 4 year contract and there's no evidence MacT still isn't enamored with him (and his hair)
3. He can only get better next season, seriously can it get worse?
4. He's generally showing signs of improvement this year (latest two games notwithstanding)
5. OK, so we suck royally again next year - play the familiar card of a high draft pick, in a deep draft, with Conner McDavid

Either way, we all know how the Oilers operate, accountability does not exist for management, coaching, and now even players.
5.

I can see, however, an associate coach in place next year. Laviolette anyone? Wouldn't work, but we need someone with experience and Maurice was rightly taken off the shelf.

So youre saying you can't have players getting angry and showing emotion after losing all season long and finally letting it come out in a 8-1 bashing to a fellow bottom feeder team?

Hall was bad last night yes, but ridiculing him for emotion is stupid. If anything I WANT more hissy fits. At least then it shows they care instead of this "yeah well we played hard to most of the game but had a bad 3-5 minutes and the game got out of our hands" ********. Let em get as angry as they can, maybe and just maybe that'll get them to start playing with emotion

How many coaches let players have it for smashing their sticks in frustration. Why did Eakins not let Labarbera have it for his hissy fit early this season. Instead he praised him for it. But yea this was bad you know the coach got a few rain drops on him. My new nickname for Eakins will be Lil squirt.

You know how I know this board is full of young people? The fact that everyone is purely in Eakins blame mode for last night's benching of Hall and giving Taylor a free pass. I gaurantee you with the coaches of the 80's and 90's that could have been Brett Hull and if he did that on Keenan's bench he would have stayed there the rest of the game.

Eakins isn't a good coach for this team by any means, but it's also not just his fault. Hall acted like a child last night, so he got treated like one. If I was the coach and he started yelling back at me like Hall did, he wouldn't have seen the ice the rest of the game, not just 12 minutes off.

I have a nickname for him, unfortunately it would come up as all stars on this site.

I was so excited for him I even yelled out to him during the waterbottle incident!

You obviously have never played sports , and please tell me when you have seen a player benched for throwing a water bottle or smashing a stick . I am pushing 40 and seen lots of hissy fits by players in their career I have never seen one benched for showing frustration.
