For starters, I ain't trying to argue with you. I'm just saying, is having a middling team continuously lose in the first round as embarrassing as a team with a plethora of riches (on offense at least) do the same?

A team not expected to do anything and losing isn't terribly embarrassing. Having a team that gets front page articles saying 'plan the parade' unable to get out of the first round is pretty embarrassing comparatively.

But of course, it's all entirely subjective.

Sounds like a slightly off recollection of 2002.

Series was 2-2, jeff o'neill tied game 5 with a minute and a half left. Canes won in ot, and won the series in 6. Lost the cup final to the redwings hall of fame all star team.

Canes and devils also met in 2006 when the canes won the cup. Devils were on a double-digit win streak iirc, but the canes won that series relatively easily (4-1).

1) The fans. They generate so much "noise" for the players. Always talking about the Leafs, good or bad. Posting on online forums. Just toxic people.
