Your Rebuild Opinion? Next Move Coming?

Cap space won’t be an issue unless Kasper pops off for 80+ points and Edvinsson wins the Norris.

Tough stuff reading around here lately.

Everyone is into buying hope, and the future still.

I just hope Yzerman does something that surprises me. I want Mitch Marner but, do understand that's basically not happening. Trade would be welcomed, though again, not expecting it. Yzerman doesn't do fair value trades really so Idk how you net a star/super star.

Idk, I'm afraid I'm going to watch my childhood hero get fired for being really stubborn. We'll see in time. IF the team is significantly worst this next season..., what do we even do?

the most important move is making sure to have the future cap space for signing edvinsson n kasper , nothing else is more important cuz we aint winnin no cup for a few years . in a few years from now is when your looking to make a ufa splash

for now its just more plugging hole short term contracts like nelson n orlov . yes this will put the cry babys on full pout , but come 2028/29 and a decade long dynasty begins theyll get to shake their rattles all day

* DONT PANIC YZERMAN , LET THE CRY BABYS TANTRUM
No matter how many times you repeat this, it will never happen from drafting alone.

There is this thing called ‘toxic positivity’ you should look into.

A few years from now, Marner level player likely not available. This is the first time in a while that a 90+ pt player has hit UFA. Sometimes you need to strike when their is an opening.

Yzerman needs to be aggressive. They really need some elite offensive talent.

I haven’t been ever more convinced than right now that Larkin needs to be traded to a contender for assets to put this team over. There are going to be a lot of teams looking to shake up their roster this off season (kings, hurricanes, potentially Dallas) and they all have good pieces that could make this team great for a decade plus rather than Larkin make us mediocre for just a few years. The core truly starts with Seider.

I think a good many would be open to the idea of a Larkin trade. Of course, it all comes down to whats coming back.
I think LA would look to move Kopitar before Byfield. Most here would want Byfield, myself included.
Dallas seems to have no reason to want to shake things but may have to let a nice piece go for cap reasons. Larkin would complicate that more.
I have no idea about Carolina. I like their team. Maybe they shake things up. Perhaps they go after Marner. I think they need a new coach, but i doubt that opinion is shared by many.

Larkin has a NMC. Why does everyone ignore this? He can simply say "No, I don't want to leave Michigan". Full stop. Then what?

Detroit doesn’t even have enough cap space to make real noise this offseason without making trades or buyouts. They’re not even in the top 10 for cap space. So I’m expecting to be disappointed when we end up with bottom tier signings. My only hope is how the Wings are not only lagging behind their peers but also the other 3 teams locally who have all made the playoffs and are through their rebuilds.

With Ottawa and Montreal both making the playoffs, I feel Yzerman will have to make a major move sooner or later. There is no elite offensive talent in the pipeline.

I don't think Larkin is going anywhere, he knew the long term plan when he signed up for the long haul and any hope of a cup in his prime window went out the door with Bert. I think last year's overachieve went to too many player's head and they all thought they were further along then they really are.

I suspect Larkin will most likely be the Kane type player once his current contract expires, lower cost, maybe even year by year, to ensure they have a solid team, likely the 3rd line center or a winger, but the glue that held the team together to get there and win the cup. He basically said as much at his Presser after signing the contract.

I am expecting some regression on the ice to start 2025/26 as a lot more yutes will get added in, but I think they will surprise many and carry the team very close, if not into the playoffs by the end of the year.

I think Petes2424 was only partly right as many so called insiders try to piece the puzzle together, but T-Mc will have "his" base team ready from the start of the season (the near ready kids are better off with T-Mc than at GR), and I will be surprised if any UFAs other than Kane are signed for 2025/26, unless it is too good of deal for SY to pass up.

I expect the wings to be both sellers and buyers at the 2026 TDL as real contenders (and some that think they are) will want some of the expiring contract parts (Tank, a goalie or 2 and 3 D-men should be available) for their playoff runs and SY will look for hockey trade returns.

I agree he needs to do more, I actually believe quite a bit in Buchelnikov in terms of if he hits his ceiling. Some of the company he keeps at his age in Russia is promising.

But we need to make more good decisions beyond the draft and have not for a few years. That the best trade forced his way here isn’t awe inspiring either.

1) It's a giant assumption that either Kasper and Danielson will be good enough as a 1-2 punch at center, or that Detroit will somehow add another center so that Larkin can finish his career as a 3C and Detroit will ever get anywhere near a Cup.

2) That's horrendous use of Larkin from an asset management standpoint. Let a lower tier 1C languish for a decade and finish his career as Helm 2.0 instead of trading him while he still has value to bring in a premium return? Hard pass.

Sports are fundamentally entertainment. So either the product on the ice is good enough that it's worth watching for the casual fan, or there's something at the end of the wait that makes delayed gratification worthwhile. Keeping Larkin until he's no longer a key piece (and then still not likely having enough key pieces) fails both metrics.

If it’s true that the red wings are really going to go young and do a semi tank year this year, do you guys think we might take on zibenejad for an obscene haul ??

For as much as NYR fans hated him this year, he still put up over 60 points and his last few months were strong. I wouldn't be against it, really curious what NYR would package with him to move him. If they eat some salary and send us a 1st and/or Miller. I think there are some folks here who really like K'andre Miller, and maybe this is how we get him.

I think Kreider is the contract they're desperate to get rid of.

I hope Bucheinikov pans out and exceeds expectations.

But I agree with what you said. I just don’t see enough in the pipeline or Yzerman’s ability (at the moment) to made a big trade without having it handed to him.

I wish Yzerman took a more aggressive embrace the tank mode like Chicago and not signed Chiarot, Copp, Compher, etc… bring up AHL scrubs and force your way to a bottom three finish if the lotto isn’t working out in your favor.

We’ll see how it turns out, but I think Chicago might have the more dangerous team in 5 years time.
