Your Rebuild Opinion? Next Move Coming?

If 13th alone doesn’t get it done I’m not interested.

Byram apparently wants a bigger role. He’s not replacing Seider on the PP. and he’s not likely to replace ASP when ASP comes here.

I like Byram but it probably isn’t a good fit.
I appreciate that he may not be totally optimal given the roster construction at this very moment, but I am really having a hard time understanding why fans are thumbing their nose at Byram. He is more than adequate defensively and brings more in terms of puck movement and offense than 5/6 of our blueline. Is he a perfect "stay at home" partner for Seider? No, but I am also not sure that is exactly what we need.

People have become too wed to Gavrikov and the idea of Gavrikov. I would love to sign him, but I don't think he is the only path forward to improving our defense given its current state. I also think we have more control over the acquisition of Byram than Gavrikov and that he would have far more trade value if we needed to move him a couple of years from now for some better fit at that time.

The wings signing Tralmaks then looking hard at Comtois makes me believe Yzerman is looking for a lot more size this upcoming season.

Call me crazy but I’m really hoping for a trade for Marchment and/or signing Bennett. Both give the wings physical forwards with an edge that can score 50 points.

We need a solid top 4 defender to pair with Seider. If not Gavrikov and Hague who is a physical minute muncher we could sign or trade for?
He's definitely looking for more size. He said in a presser around the deadline I think it was that fighting and basically big boy hockey is making a comeback and Detroit needs to toughen up. He almost landed Carlo at the deadline.

He'll be all over Gavrikov I'm sure this summer who is 6'3 220. But outside of him, Bennet is obviously going to be a target for every team in the league. I could see Yzerman being a big fan of Trent Frederic or Jeannot too. Add both those guys, one on your third line, one on your fourth. All of a sudden Detroit is really tough and big

I don't think we can get Byram without giving up Kasper+. I don't see the point. I would rather sign a dependable free agent. We will have Edvinsson/Seider/ASP as young D in our core - we don't need to add a 4th. It's an unnecessary luxury that will cost us Kasper at the very least, we dont have very many good young forwards.

How is Byram worth alone Kasper period? Explain this? He hasn't done anything in the NHL and is frequently hurt...

There is no way Byram's value is Kasper+. Kasper alone should cost Byram+ at this point.

Who says he almost landed Carlo?

I think I'd prioritize a vet on the back end vs another young top 4. I really think this team needs a stablizing player back there. I like Byram but I don't feel the need unless we are dealing one of ASP/Ed/Seider to land that young franchise forward.

We need someone that be the calm head back there when we might have an incredibly young D from top to bottom soon. Antjo/Wally/Buium on top top of Aljo/Seider/Ed/ASP.

At forward we have guys like Larkin/ DBC/ Copp/ Kane to help transition our young forwards but all our vet D play hot potato hockey. A late 20s / early 30s Petry would have been solid, but he is obviously not that guy anymore. Chia is a decent 3rd pair guy but not good enough to play in the top 4 consistently. Gus is a #6 at best and Holl should be in the AHL. Mac needs his guy that when this young team gets fluster or penned into the D zone that can get out there and make the easy out.

I don't know how close it actually got but Tony Wolak reported the red wings were trying to get him at the TDL.

From everything I heard, Yzerman and the Red Wings were very active in the days leading up to the trade deadline.

According to a source, the Red Wings had deep conversations with the Boston Bruins about defenseman Brandon Carlo. Ultimately, the Bruins opted to hold out for a better deal, and got one from the Toronto Maple Leafs. Ultimately, Detroit got outbid.

You can go look at the Byram thread if you don’t believe me. People are offering plenty of good assets for Byram lol.

If we can get him for lesser prospects and Compher/Ras etc then sure but I don’t see that happening.

Remember:

Byram is young, RFA, and has had multiple head injuries.
